  1. I think it is called the Water Street Side Bar......down overlooking the lewiston launch. The wanton shrimp are worth the drive to Lewiston.
  2. Just got back in. Strong NE winds has blown clear cold water in. Tommorow head west out of port and fish closer to the Niagara.
  3. Fishing is on fire right now. Good timing.
  4. PM Mike aka "landshark" on this site as he likes to head up there.
  5. Hens........Hens.....
  6. Probably need to drive into Buffalo.
  7. So you are saying you didn't "mop" them up eh?
  8. Deep fried Turkey Breast!
  9. East winds for a week can make for finicky fish. Come back a little later in the month when the wind is out of the west or SW on the lake.
  10. So the mentoring has continued with my 13 year old nephew. Out into the wood we go saturday in the dark. NOTHING talked all day. At 6:30 with no dance partner and the kid nodding off in the blind I say ok, lets go make something happen. Dropping into a deep cut drainage, we get deep into the woods staying out of sight and sound. Coming out of the cut I begin a slow sneak (ya right..with a 13 year old who doesn't lace up his boots). Realizing the feet dragging going on behind me I figure I better make the noise sound like feeding birds. So on we slowly walk while I yelp with my push-peg box call. We settle down up against a big tree and I continue calling, alternating with two different sounding mouth calls and the push-peg. I soon hear rustling to my right and I see three gobblers tripping over each other to get to me. I ready the kid and explain what is going to happen. Below me is a hen that is moving our way......perfect set-up. The gobblers come in, see the hen, allowing the kid to move the gun into position, and I say ok shoot when you are ready. The birds are 20 yards away, and oblivious to the figety boy. I say again...time to shoot buddy. I hear him exhale and I wait for the bang.........buddy shoot........and the birds walked to 40 yards and I say nope, can't shoot now. We sat and watched a three jake display of strutting for 30 minutes just out of range. Wierd but not ONE vocalization by these birds. After the hen followed by the jakes fed around us and up to a winter wheat field and the coast was clear....I asked my nephew "why didn't you shoot?" His remark was "they kept bobbing their head"! LOL.
  11. Gizzard Shad. Dying after spawining. There are big Gizzards in Olcott for the last month dying in the harbor.
  12. Je ne parle pas francais
  13. I got scooped up by a frenchie. I am no longer available.
  14. On Lake O fishermen run long segments down the chute on a Pike Bobber (300-500' segments) although I prefer to get them out of the way off planer boards. You could run smaller segments as suggested but I think you will be dodging any fish coming off other lines as everything ends up down the middle with a fish on......unless you hook one of those Orcas off your coast.
  15. Lots of lakers and Cohos around but the kings have been spotty. Water temps look like she is about to explode into full King production any day. Got some boat stuff to fix and I will be out soon. Can anyone tell me why Turkey opener, my daughter's b-day, mother's day and the LOC derby all coincide????? Link: http://www.coastwatch.msu.edu/ontario/o1.html For first time this year, the inshore water is warmer than offshore, so the alewives will be coming soon.....and you know what follows. There was a lot of bait in the middle of the lake at the end of the season last year and the water stayed in the 40's out there until the end of Feb. so most of the Kings are still out there deep. My buddy was out all day yesterday and did a stomach content check on some fish and found the typical contents of emerald shinners in the Coho and Alewives and gobies in the Lakers.
  16. Had my schedule open a little. Can observe for WHI if anyone is in full blown stress mode.
  17. sattelite image looks good.
  18. The problem in Niagara county is the water is too muddy.
  19. Ok, you got the bird Sunday.....much better conditions. We were out Sat. in that crap. I am in the woods at 4:30 am with snow blowing sideways and wondering WTF. Bed seemed like a better option but I did not want to cancel a boys first hunt. We did get a good lesson on fidgeting and deer spotting you lol.
  20. Wow, great job!!! Took my nephew out for his first ever hunt and.......30 mph with 40 mph gusts with blizzard conditions did not make for a good turkey hunt. The kid never complained once and we did see birds, but they were not coming to calling because they could not hear my vocalizations with the wind!!!! The fact you were successful under those conditions???? OUTSTANDING!!!!!
  21. 30 lb Fireline Fused. Fleas not a problem.
  22. Not sure if you guys are checking this posting while fishing, but keep an eye on the sky as there is some bad weather heading your way. Nice looking browns and atlantic.
  23. I am sure many have been watching the fishing reports and wondering if it is time to get the boat wet. The recent rain wind events have reeked havoc with the lake. Mudville along the shoreline still, with a green transition line slightly deeper that is fishable, followed by the chaulky Niagara water starting around 50'. The first kings are starting to be caught off the Niagara as the smelt run is starting. Bottom line.......you may want to wait a little longer.
  24. If you see how few Steelhead entries for steelhead in the spring LOC derby you might want to target Lakers instead. Because Steelhead are spawning in creeks into May, there are very few in the system to catch. Steelhead fishing starts taking off in June out in 300' ++ of water near the surface esp. with a good bug hatch.
