  1. Make sure you buy her something expensive, and throw a party. I little show of celebration will go a long way toward goodwill for future fishing excursions ........at least in the short term. After that, all bets are off.....crafts, crafts, crafts. When is the craft fair in Canandaigua?
  2. I don't like the observer calling time on the water, because a lot of observers are regulars and have gotten to know the captains over the years. It may be human nature for an observer whom has had prior relationships with a particular team to potentially look the other way as a team lands a fish just past the alotted time. With the pierhead rule, you can have officials at the pierheads making sure the rules are enforced. I DO LIKE THE IDEA THAT YOU CAN HAVE MORE TIME FROM THE TIME YOU LEAVE THE DOCK TIL THE TIME YOU CAN DUNK LINES, to get some scouting in.
  3. I almost rented a slip that weekend on the Catt. but the weather reports kept me away.......thank god!!!!
  4. You are right in that it seemed like it was over before it started esp. with the amateur division losing fishing time this year . However, when you are having fun, the time always flys-by. Keep in mind all the volunteers have to be on call, so I can see where they would like to keep these events as short as possible. People behind the scenes, putting up and taking down tents, food stations, leader boards, etc. Now, I do my part by registering at least one zero box per event to keep things moving . Guess you could do the pre-fish friday contests?
  5. Better to get them hooked on Kings than those brown walleye things .
  6. I have not been out on Ontario since Orleans Pro/Am. Honey-do list, wife taking nursing boards, and some health issues with my daughter have kept me in drydock. One of those lost years. Off to NC for a week of saltwater fishing next. Will try to hook up with you off the bar end of August, September.
  7. Skinny fish. How was the bait picture out deep?
  8. Holy cow, a diversion report. Where you been boy! Good to see you got into some matures.
  9. I have done it without success. It is really wierd out there in the dark....better to tag with a another boat. I did not like trying to dodge debris in the dark on the way in. I will only do it again when the fish are close to the pierheads.
  10. Catch and release unless bleeding from the gills. Then there are the unfortunate suicide fish that when released, bolt into my trolling motor!
  11. I agree, if you already have two wire set-ups, then either #50 powerpro or #30 fireline. Remember to wrap the braid twice thru the dipsy swivel if tying an improved cinch knot due to braid slippage.
  12. Glad you are home Bob, I heard in the delerium of pain medication, you actually pinched a male nurses rear?.....(not that there is anything wrong with that )
  13. Get well soon Bob. Keep in mind you are probably old enough to legally pinch a nurses behind and get away with it
  14. Scary stuff. I see Tanaka makes an eleven pound, gas operated pump that might give piece of mind to us boaters. I think I found my Christmas gift. At 31 gallons/minute is that fast enough?
  15. Tried to scratch a few walleye on Chautaqua on Sunday during the afternoon. Trolled #30 jets off boards, one downrig, one three-way bottom rig with spinner rigs without success. After an hour/half of watching rods, we decided to save the day and anchor. North wind blowing so we hit the north side of Long Point near the marker buoy with the transom over 24' FOW. My brother and I hammered HUGE Bluegills, pumpkinseeds and a few whites for a nice little fishfry. Pieces of worm ahead of a little piece of Berkley gulp.
  16. Anyone have the results?
  17. Yep! When the fish are active, they are the rods popping.
  18. I run mono divers in spring on #30 Big Game with mini-disks or size #0 dipsys off the big boards.
  19. Never had much luck either in East winds, so usually I don't fish. During tournaments you have no choice, so fish the temps which usually change. In the spring and early summer east winds usually roll colder water west so I end up fishing higher. One of these days, I will get an O2 sensor and record what happens during an east wind reversal. I imagine the cold deeper water that rolls up has less dissolved O2 so it makes the fish lethargic. I don't have proof it happens but I witnessed hundreds of Lakers at the bar surfacing and gulping air during an east wind one spring.
  20. Nothing beats a "one-man parade."
  21. I guess the word has gotten out.......your flies apparently catch Chinooks .
  22. Ok, I got a nice ding in my propeller from a log I hit doing 35 mph on blast-off at Orleans pro/am. I assume a ding in the propeller will cause an unbalanced/ wobble issue that may effect the health of the lower unit? Do I go with aluminum which is cheaper and will break when hiting something, taking a page from Nascar bodies to protect the drive, or do I go for speed and durability with a stainless prop? Who knows what?
  23. I could make a joke here about your girlfriend grabbing the throbbing rod running down the chute....but that would be too easy and I am a gentleman (not really).
