  1. Galvanism.
  2. So how would the LOC regard the extra weight of the ring lol. Great story.
  3. Compression test? Tune-up kit? Timing off? Carb need adjustment? Are you misfiring? Sounds like it is time to get another set of eyes on it.
  4. Better landing ratio with fixed cheaters.
  5. Include me as a future participant on correspondence for next year’s event. Thanks.
  6. Thumper is more stealthy. Don’t sweat it. Give them what they want. Riggers shine on the bottom past 100’.
  7. Every boat should have an oar aboard which helps with the final docking.
  8. Will this end up in Cayuga?
  9. Beautiful Lake Trout. Nice and clean.
  10. If you don’t have a downspeed, consider trolling North/South and look at the bend in your dipsy rods.
  11. Much to learn young skywalker. You need to learn the business side. You need to learn how to talk to people i.e. smooze clientele, even though you don't have a thing in common with them. You need to learn basic boat maintenance in order to keep your rig fishing and not canceling charters. Marine mechanics don't just drop what they are doing just because you have clients coming the next day. You need to learn how to network (without offending). You need to have all your fishing and safety gear. You need to have insurance. You should have a slip- home base. You need to learn how to deal with drunk obnoxious smokers on your boat. You need to know what to do when a client starts turning green and goes quiet. You need to have probably 120 charters to break even. You need to have the patience of Job to deal with late arriving clients or clients that keep dropping fish. You need to deal with clients who cancel last minute. You need to keep in touch with past clients for repeat business. Last but not least........you need to learn how to catch fish in an East wind!
  12. A bailing bucket!
  13. With a dead battery your VHF will not work. I would say today with gps tracking, a cell phone is more important. If you had to abandon ship, you can take your cell with you. I have the local coast guard number in my contacts. If you go to the compass feature on your phone, it will give your gps coordinates.
  14. The lake is loaded with nutrients right now. I was surprised how green the spring water was despite the cold water. This year’s weather reminds me of weather in the late 80’s. We were fishing kings up at Burt Dam around September 10th with the leaves already turning color back then. I would definitely plan for early runs on the tribs this year. With the Niagara still in the high 50’s my buddy is still catching tons of steelhead with his centerpin. Maybe we get a Niagara run this year??
  15. The first-in copper and last-out copper, keep your thumb on the spool to keep it from backlashing. If you have to go over a dipsy then let the copper settle a couple of minutes down the middle before sending it wide -to allow for it to rise. Using a mag dipsy will lessen the chances of the two getting together due to steeper dive curve. Use spoons while learning as flashers make a mess.
  16. Browns are opportunistic garbage cans. They eat anything that wiggles.
  17. Looks like it is trying to pass a spin doctor. Look at that bulge? What trophy for the lad!
  18. Happens for two reasons in my estimation and experience. One, letting out dipsy too fast. Two, a small fish hit and spun it or three....a fish hit and ran forward causing the dipsy to roll onto itself. The most logical is the third option as I don't have this happen to slide divers.

  20. Main line to a barrel swivel- leave a long tag line on knot to attach the split shot. This way the split shot is not crimping on the main line weakening it and if you snag bottom the splits will slide off. Leader coming from the barrel is equal to length from rod tip to the reel (to clip onto for storage). Termination is a duolock swivel snap.
  21. Michigan Stinger has entered the market with a larger sized ballyhoo strip. A dollar more than DW ballyhoo. The price of this stuff is crazy.
  22. If you have not been running a DW glow two-face in mag or super slim you have been missing fish.
  23. You just got out for the first time? You must really want a new boat!
