This is the latest forecast for the rest of the week and the weekend. Looks good, but we'll see about any temp. I was told earlier in the week that over this past weekend, even in 550+FOW, at 200' down, the water temp was 66 degrees. Interesting to know about the 15lb weights. I installed (2) new Mag 10-HS's this spring and love them so far. I did lose a 12lb Shark about a month ago and replaced it with a 15lb torpedo - nobody in the area had the Sharks in stock and I wanted to finish fishing the weekend out fully. I did notice that one Cannon was struggling a bit with the Torpedo compared to the Shark.

Thanks, Rich. This has been a really goofy season, hasn't it? I got a friend into fishing the lake BIG time this season, as he's always done little ponds for bass. He's the guy I introduced you to at Mike's LSR Challenge. He still wants to catch a king this year before I call it a season, but don't know if it'll happen this year now. He's never done river fishing, so we may have to give you a call to help us with that. It's all new to me, too! I've only fished out in the lake.

I was up Labor Day weekend and it was not good. Water temps were in the mid-70's on the bottom out to 175FOW. High winds and waves prevented anyone from doing much. It was a part of that huge 2-day Gale-Force storm. Got out Labor Day morning for a few hours but the lake was all messed-up. From what I have read on here for over the past weekend, the lake is still too warm and some guys have called it a season and pulled their boats. Fish are in the river and people on the Rt3 Port Ontario bridge were reeling them in all weekend, according to my neighbor at the lakehouse. I'll be up this weekend to give it one more "go", but not expecting much to happen if the lake is still 70+ degrees. May have to run out DEEP to find any decent temps.

Just out of curiosity, why did you get rid of your Cannons?

I hope the temps change soon, too. I'll be back up next weekend for what may be my final time before towing the boat home mid-October. It's been a good season, but I'd really love for it to go out with a bang!

I was going through some old pictures I have of the lake and came across a few of boats & owners I met. One which stood out was a Grady White 208 Overnighter named the Boiler Maker. It was stored at Lighthouse Marina in Port Ontario and the boat was registered out of NJ. They were really good on the lake back when I knew of the boat. Anyone know if they are still around or fish the lake under a different name now?

The temp problem has been an issue for a few weeks now. When I was out last weekend, I had 75 degrees on the bottom from 50-175FOW. It was too windy and choppy to try venturing out any further. Fish are in the Big Salmon River. Not sure where to tell you to try. It has been very hit and miss.

Seems to be the situation for the past month. Tons of fish being pulled during the week, but as soon as the weekend brigades show up, the fish scatter. Very irritating, but, hey, it's all part of the fun, right?

I, also, agree that A-TOM-MIK is awesome! I bought a lot of gear and equipment from Tom this season and couldn't be happier. I had a chance to meet and talk to him at Fat Nancy's open house this March and he represents a market which demands quality products that work. Everywhere you go around the Pulaski & Port Ontario area, A-TOM-MIK products are advertized. There is a reason for that. His stuff works!!! I'm putting a list together of some more items to add to my arsenal before the season closes out. Thanks, Tom, for all you have done for our fishery and the sport!

Did the boat make it back to Mexico Point? Bonnie, the attendant at the launch, said it was being towed back, still capsized. Glad the guys were safely rescued and they are ok. I did see their boat Sunday in Port Ontario across from Woody's. You just never know, especially on the lake.

Good question. One of my "to do" items is to spool (2) of my riggers with 400' of cable, should we have to go that deep to find the Kings. It's been a crazy season, that's for sure.

My plans are to stay off the water and not risk being hurt, injured, capsized, sunk, etc. I have some things I've been meaning to do on the boat and I need to get all my gear re-organized and put away. Forecast looks like the winds will begin to let up on the east end Sunday afternoon with waves subsiding to 2-4 feet. Hopefully the pattern continues and Monday morning the lake is fishable before I head home.

While I own lakefront property along the lake, I am a PA resident. With all that is happening, I wish there was some way property owners along the lake could vote in the elections to express our displeasure in how things are being run, regardless of which state we reside in. I can only imagine the shock these politicians would have if that were allowed. I have taken steps already and have sent emails and letters into the respective representatives for Oswego County who are also against the windfarm project and rejected it at the meeting. These people have replied to me over and over, and understand and know the pinwheels are not for our lake - not now, not in the future. I continue to monitor what is going on, typically on a daily or every other day basis. I call NY State home, as well, despite my driver's license saying Pennsylvania, and I refuse to let my view of the lake and my fishing grounds be visually and physically destroyed because some politician only sees green filling his pockets and doesn't give a rat's *** about their citizens, both in-state and out-of-state. Ok, I'm done ranting....for the time being!

You will need to know the full bolt pattern specs to get the right rim. It will be something like a 5x4-1/2", 5x4-3/4", 5x5", etc. The spacing between every other bolt is the 2nd part of the spec. Being you have 14" rims, I would lean towards it being a 4-1/2" pattern, but best to measure to be safe. If you are upping the capacity of the axles, you may want to also consider upping to a 15" rim if the trailer fenders will accomodate them.

NK or a Stinger NBK, Stinger Tuxedo or a Stinger Michael Jackson. The Michael Jackson did really well for us this year.

What about the Eagle Claws did you not like? WAY too soft, IMO, for a supposed dipsy rod; like the post above a lot of bend before the first eye., the pole just did not have enough backbone, IMO. We didn't like them for wire, we have a Eagle Claw on our lead and like it. We have also tried a 8'6" downrigger rod and hated it, used it once and went back to our old shakespeare alpha rod. Good info to have. I have (6) of the SF-401 rods (8'6") for downriggers and love them. Also have (2) leadcore set-ups using the same rod and couldn't be happier. All personal preferences, no right or wrong when choosing what works best for us. Which rod were you using for the dipsey? Do you remember the model number, by chance?

What about the Eagle Claws did you not like?

Ditto! I recently upgraded from 2 to 4 on the back of my Islander. So far this season, though, we've only been running 3. As Gambler mentioned, it is nice to have the 4th, just in case something goes wrong, as it did for us last weekend. Cable on an out/down got all tangled-up and it took a good 15-20 patient minutes (with an occassional grumble) to get it squared away. In the meantime, while we were untangling the cable, we put the 4th rigger down until we got the out/down repaired.
