  1. I got stuck out on the lake once without my kicker. Never again!!!
  2. I agree the 15K is high. It is a nice ride, though. Sure someone will give it a nice home. I love my Islander, as well. I bought my 2000 221 in 2005 for 15k. That was worth it!
  3. Nice job! Congrats to you both, Brian and Marlene!!
  4. While online looking at fishing gear, I came across this Islander 221V. Would make a nice fishing machine for someone! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1992-Starcraft-Islander-221V-/140436316060?pt=Other_Boats
  5. I run the 8'6" Eagle Claws for my downrigger rods and absolutely LOVE them. Never thought of using them for copper. Hmmm, got me thinking now.....
  6. I think most of the boats out of Mexico Bay monitor 78. There was a time, probably a year or so ago, that we, the LOU community, wanted to get a lake-wide LOU channel we could all use to talk to each other no matter what port we were from. At the time, I think we chose 14, but it was soon found out that 14 was a special USCG channel or something like that and we couldn't use it. I think it'd still be a nice idea if we could find a channel we could all use as a group.
  7. Nice fish! Looks like they are FINALLY starting to show up!!!
  8. I got (2) Penn 345GTi reels spooled with 600' of copper from A-TOM-MIK and love them! I'm not sure of the ratio of feet out to depth, but if you go to A-TOM-MIK's website, in the reel description section, he shows what certain amounts out will get you down to. If I remember correctly, 600' will get you down to approximately 120' at a 2.5mph troll. For rods, I am using a Shimano Talora and a Daiwa Heartland. Both work really well.
  9. I was thinking that, as well. It was replaced at the end of last year before I put everything away for the winter. But, it's been getting used A LOT more this year, so maybe it is on its way out. I'll give a new battery a try and hopefully that fixes it. Thanks for the tip, Tim!
  10. I was going to post a similar question to this one. My Sub-Troll has been acting up this season a lot. Works fine, then the display goes haywire, shows an unrealistic temperature, speed needle goes to "0", temp jumps all over the place...then it returns to acting normally. Has anyone had any problems with the actual connection on the backl of the display unit where the RCA cable plugs in? Seems that sometimes when I wiggle or move the cable, the display sometimes starts working fine. I also have some bare spots on my cable and was thinking that may be the culprit, but apparently it may be something else. This weird activity happens at any depth. Any other thoughts?
  11. Nice job! We ran west to Sodus Saturday morning to try something different after we didn't do well in Mexico Bay. Hope those kings start moving east soon!
  12. I wanted to take a minute and thank everyone involved in the Mike's Marina Little Salmon River Challenge. I have been wanting to participate in it since last year, but haven't been able to since yesterday. What an incredible event!! This is an excellent example of a family-oriented fishing tournament that gives back to the participants, as well as the area. My fishing partner for this, as well as the Spring LOC, had never experienced a tournament like this before, and he was, also, amazed at how well it was put on. Thank you, again, to all involved in putting on the Challenge. Mike, Beth, Rich, Ron and everyone I missed - you are to be commended! Myself and my team are already excited for next year's Challenge!!
  13. That's strange they kicked you off the channels. I'd have been very suspicious, as well, if that happened to me. Oh well. Glad I have people I can throw this stuff at and get answers pretty quickly!
  14. Ok, here's the scoop! I think Gambler is right. Multiple agencies replied to my contact, including the Coast Guard. They all said there is an outfall project underway to repair an intake shaft. A local rep from Oswego stated the equipment has been staged in Oswego Harbor for a bit now, and they will continue to be there a little longer. The CG assured everyone this is NOT the start to any windfarm project and is merely equipment to repair the intake shaft. Local Notice to Mariners: LAKE ONTARIO Webster, NY 20/10 OUTFALL REPAIR 0600-2100 / MON-SAT 31 AUG 10 Webster, NY 23/10 INTAKE SHAFT OPERATIONS 0600-2200/ 7 DAYS 15 NOV 10 All I can say is PHEW!!!!!
  15. Bill & Yankee, how close were you able to get to the rigs? About how many FOW do you think they were sitting in? From what you could see, were there just the 2 rigs or did there appear to be more scattered around? My contact replied to me almost instantly. He hasn't heard of anything yet, but he did send the pic and info to a few people who are in the legislative end to stop the windfarms - people with pull!! He is waiting to hear back from them, but in the meantime asked me to get info on the above questions. I will most definitely post anything I find out!!!
  16. I sure hope it isn't a start to the pinwheel projects. But, knowing what the NYPA has tried in the past, it wouldn't suprise me if they are trying some back-door scheme. I have an email in to my contact who is very much on top of this whole "disaster in the making". AS soon as I hear from him, I'll post here. Ooooohhhhh, my blood pressure is starting to rise!!!
  17. I'll add another vote for A-TOM-MIK.
  18. I had this same question many, many years ago when I got my first boat and started using it mainly on the lake. I was told I did not need a license and the radio did not have to be registered. If I were a freighter, that was a different story. But, yes, those of us in the US don't need a license for our VHF radios. With our lovely government, however, anything can change...
  19. Great! See you there!
  20. Rich, has the link to the official rules for the LSR been repaired? When you click on the link on Mike's page for the rules and regulations, it comes up as unable to be found. Everything else loads up fine. Any thoughts?
  21. Keith, are you in the LSR Challenge this year?
  22. Thanks for all the replies. Definitely gives me some info to look at and consider.
  23. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I didn't know him, but it's always sad to hear of one of our own passing away.
  24. Wow!!!! Definitely a deal there. Same for the Tiara.
  25. Definitely good news!!
