  1. Yikes!! Glad I got my Derby time in this past weekend.
  2. They were quite amusing to watch. And, when they couldn't get out of the way quickly enough, they'd suddenly disappear underwater, then pop back up after the boat would pass them. Very different bird. I had more than a few good laughs watching them. And, yes, VERY fast!
  3. Does anyone know what the birds were that were flying around in Mexico Bay this past weekend? Funny things they were. Running on top of the water while their wings were flapping away trying to get away from boats on plane. They sorta looked like a duck from the neck up, but their bodies looked like something else. Black with a white tail. Anyone have a clue?
  4. Dryer sheets. We placed a few throughout the cockpit and the bugs refused to enter the boat. Saturday was horrible with those bugs!! Made sure I had the sheets on the boat for Sunday.
  5. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Tag / Misty IV ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 5/1 & 5/2 Time on Water: 18 hours Weather/Temp: Sunny, warm 5/1, Cloudy, overcast 5/2 Wind Speed/Direction: < 5mph Waves: Sheet of glass both days Surface Temp: 54-61 Location: Mexico Bay & west of 9-Mile LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 4 Species Breakdown: Brown, Lakers, Steelhead Hot Lure: Michael Jackson Stinger, A-TOM-MIK flies, Tourney Winner Stinger Trolling Speed: 2.8-3.6 Down Speed: 2.2-2.5 Boat Depth: 85-130 Lure Depth: 65-120 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== We pulled into the lakehouse around 10:30pm Friday night. On the water early Saturday with quite a few other boats in Mexico Bay. Planer boards out for 2 hours, but no hits. Ventured out to 50 FOW, marked a lot of bait fish and some larger marks on the bottom from 45 down. Tried the downriggers, but no hits. Heard other fishermen talking about it being pretty active west of Nine Mile, so picked-up and powered our way over there. Started in 40-50 FOW and moved out. Started marking a lot of good sized fish from 50-75 and again from 90-120. Downriggers & core lines were the producers. First, and only, boated fish was the 10-color core with a Michael Jackson Stinger. Nice Brown, approx 5.5lbs. Released. Few hits throughout the day, but nobody home. Called it a day around 5:30pm. Saturday was hot in the sun. Felt good. My fishing partner was hurting Sunday morning, though. We were on the water earlier Sunday, started, again, in the Bay, with about 15 other boats. Same routine as Saturday, but only stayed there for about an hour before venturing out west of Nine-Mile again. Set-up in approx 90-100 FOW and set the downriggers and the core lines. First strike was on the 10-color core, with a 42-second flasher with an A-TOM-MIK green/black fly. My fishing partner for the Derby had never fished Lake Ontario before, and wanted to learn the way everyone else has to when they are starting out - by experimenting with different combinations. As he was reeling that 4lb 10oz Laker in, one of the downriggers fires and we have a double on. Boated the first Laker, released it, and went to work on the 2nd line. 127FOW, down 118, A-TOM-MIK white/blue fly 24" behind Lake Trolls. Nice fight from a 5lb 11oz Laker. Also released. Next hit was on the core with a Stinger Tourney Winner. Nice Steelie, almost 5lbs. We let it go, as well. We had a couple hits with nobody home throughout the day, again. Finally called it a day around 3pm. Congrats to all the placers out west for the LOC. We'll get ya back in the fall!
  6. Nice job! Hope it holds for the remainder of the derby. Definitely gives those of us in the eastern end hope for later in the season!
  7. What color NBK were you running? We were trying the green with no results. We landed a nice Coho on, of all things, a Michael Jackson Stinger out west of Oswego. We couldn't do anything along the shoreline, either.
  8. This is outrageous! I hope they catch the individual(s) responsible and that they are brought to justice! Yes, the thug attack and now this. What has happened to our little town where I come to get away from the typical day to day crime and BS I hear about on the radio back home. Port Ontario has been long known for its fishing...not for crime. Let the swift arm of justice squash the criminal(s) soon!
  9. Yeah, not funny at all! The jump from $35 to $70 was bad enough. Does NY offer a lifetime license for out-of-state?
  10. I'll work on getting it up here!
  11. I did my shakedown run this weekend and tried a few things. I did notice that the surface temp along the shoreline from the LSR up to the Salmon River in about 10 FOW didn't fluctuate much and was in the 55-57 degree range. I know you say you are fishing from shore, but I can't see the temp being that much different. Hope things turn around for us this coming weekend!
  12. A friend of mine sent a pic of a monster king they caught this weekend out of Olcott. He didn't mention the weight, but given the size of it, I'm guessing it had to be mid-30's. It was HUGE!!
  13. Thanks, Hank!
  14. Thanks for the legwork, High Bidder. Nice to know majority of us won't be affected by it!
  15. Thanks. Definitely a topic worth watching for us Pennsylvanians.
  16. I run (2) different colors during the season, depending on how the water is. Primarily, I run Ande Pink on (4) of my rods, but have their clear spooled on (2) other rods ready to go. I also have (2) reels spooled with Cortland Flea Flicker line, if those pesky fleas come around. I think I've landed more on the pink over time compared to the clear, however.
  17. That is about the size I'm guessing it is. it is tiny! Strange thing, however, the hose from the connector to the fuel pump is larger than the hose running from the pump to the carb.
  18. Is there some documentation online to read about this? My Expedition is classified as a station wagon in PA, and does not meet the requirements for a weight-class sticker on the windshield. Any ideas if this new law will affect the SUV's, as well?
  19. I just renewed mine for the 5 year deal, as well. And, despite the increase in the out-of-state NY license, I gladly paid it. Guess it all balances out somewhere.
  20. While tuning-up my kicker for the season's duties, I noticed the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb needs replaced. I checked my OMC catalog and checked availability through my online OMC parts store. They say the part is no longer available as a "part", but it can be cut from bulk OMC hose with part number 203909. And, while I am at it, I figure I should replace the hose going from the fuel line connector to the fuel pump, but when I search that part, it is also no longer available, but can be cut from OMC hose number 303617. Can any of the OMC guru's here tell me what size hose both of these are? Is there anything special about these hoses that requires me to use this spec hose or will any marine-grade fuel line work, so as long as I can find it in these sizes? Thanks for the help!
  21. I'll second the Sub-Troll. Oh, no, did I just tie things up again?
  22. I'll also vouch for the Expeditions, as that is what I tow with and is my daily driver. Mine is a 2002 with the 5.4, trailer towing package and 130,000+ miles. I have never had any issues with her. The newer models are very nice, especially the EL model, if you need some extra cargo room. Are you looking specifically at a pickup or would you go with a large SUV? One drawback to a pickup is if you carry gear in your bed, you'll need to buy a cap or a tonneau cover to protect your belongings from inclement weather, where with an SUV you're 100% protected. I know caps or tonneau covers aren't that expensive, but just throwing that thought out there, as well.
