I hear ya! But, like I said, I just went to the show to look around and see what is new out there. I love my Islander and have no intentions of selling her. She's an awesome boat and I spent a lot of time searching for an Islander 221. Found a lot of 191's, but I wanted the 221. Hanging onto this girl for a long time!!

Well, you figure the outboard alone is half of that $44,000.

I attended the Baltimore boat show last weekend, and, while not in the market for a new boat, was interested in seeing what was out there. I found, what I believe could be, an incredible Great Lakes fishing boat from May-Craft. The model was the 2550 Pilot XL. Has anyone used these boats on the lake or know of anyone who has? I am just curious on any feedback from owners/users. Link to the boat is below. Total show price for the boat, Yamaha 250, trailer and some optional equipment, was $44,000. http://www.maycraftboats.com/model_2550pilotxl.php

Well, since my Eagles blew it big time, I hopped on the Vikings bandwagon to support a friend who lives in Wisconsin and has been a Vikings fan her whole life. Well, since the Vikings lost, I don't know who to root for. Not a big NFL fan.

My neighbor at the lake was able to attend the meeting and sent me the following information. Please take the time to send an email to Mr. Shawn Doyle, expressing our displeasure with the windfarm project. He is the best apparent contact for Oswego County and is the next line of defense as this "disaster" works its way down the eastern shore. My neighbor mentioned that Shawn Doyle has received many emails from property owners, but has had very little feedback from boaters and fishermen AND he is requesting input from us!!! Shawn's email address is: [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The meeting was attended by about 150 people, most from inland properties (farmland) that will be crossed (with eminent domain) by transmission lines. The priorities of this meeting were for these inland people, and the actions and methods of the resistance to our north. There were about a dozen politicians and other local government people there, including the younger Mr. Barclay and our Legislator Shawn Doyle. Politicians in N. Osw. Co. do not want the overland transmission lines, so far. They are working with similarly minded pols and citizens in Jeff. Co. Whatever the viewpoint, having political and private citizen stakeholders there was constructive and instructive to all attending. !!!!!!!!!!!!!! *******************One extremely important fact that came up in a discussion with one of the Northern people was VERY pertinent to our situation in Richland. Seasonal residents VOTED IN THE LAST GENERAL, LOCAL ELECTION AND ELECTED ONE OF THEIR OWN! Don't know about you, while it makes sense, I didn't think we could vote in Richland before this meeting. As long as you own property and pay taxes you can vote in local elections, including absentee ballots. This makes it possible for us to fight any number of issues that affect us; i.e. assessments, taxes, and other general Town actions (or inactions) that effect us negatively. Point here is, if we voted as a block we can defeat anyone that does not represent our interests. That potential threat will get us much more than futile protests at the next assessment increase. I suspect that this year's elections will have proposals for Richland/Oswego Co. that will effect our taxes, and who knows what else. The other issue that was in the forefront and we can expect down the road, was the conflict of interest and corruption of local officials up north. Their legislature is in conflict against the local developmental board that is trying to get a 20 year pilot for the Galloo Is. project; i.e. tax free for developers for 20 years. That's on top of 30% paid by Stimulus, plus State Grants, and whatever they can get from Obama's Great Lakes Initiative (AT LEAST $$30 million for NY/Lake Ontario Shoreline). This has become a colossal bag of free money for these developers, investors and their political "friends", and ALL OF IT IS OUR TAX DOLLARS (STATE AND FEDERAL). These developers are FOREIGN and depend on our tax dollars for immediate profit, as their incentive to proceed. Another problem is that there are no existing "wind laws" here, and believe it or not, the new ones in Jeff. Co. have been co-written with/by the developers; i.e. conflict of interest??? Another site to check out (I haven't as yet) is [email protected]; & preservationofthegoldencrescent which thus far is the best and most useful for tools and info. In general, Osw. Co. is only starting to take official notice of the wind energy movement on/in Lake Ontario. Primarily it will effect Richland/Pulaski at present. Once they have their foot in the door the developers (3 FOREIGN, OFFSHORE CORP.) it will not take long for them to start (if not already), to work on the powers that be, to industrialize the east end of Lake Ontario. Note; New York Power Authority and DEC, being both NYS gov't entities, are working together on this, and pushing it forward. The State owns the bottom of the Lake once you leave the shoreline, and needs their cut of the federal monies coming this way. WE WILL BE AN AFTERTHOUGHT unless we are engaged from the start!! Keep your eyes on this issue, it's coming and will have a profound, negative effect on our property values (WITHOUT a decrease in our assessments, as is).

For anyone interested in attending, there will be a special meeting held in Pulaski regarding the windfarm issues. The meeting will be held this Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Pulaski Court House from 10am-12pm. All parties are strongly encouraged to attend. There is strong opposition to the farms from the residents to the north in Jefferson County, and this meeting will help to strengthen the opposition to the windfarms. Again, everyone is encouraged to attend, if at all possible. Homeowners, fishermen, charter captains, anyone!!!

I started reading through sections of the Hounsfield Impact Report, and it is VERY disturbing. Regardless of when they do the blasting, they do recognize there is the risk of major fish deaths due to the blasts. Some sections acknowledge the aquatic life will be destroyed, but "it will regrow soon after the blasting". Someone obviously did a lot of research on the impact of putting these pinwheels in and the facts are there in black and white. Why are these politicians not recognizing this and accepting the impact to the Lake, fishery and aquatic life WILL be catastrophic? Oh, that's right...they're only in it for the money!!! Write your local representatives!!! I did and have gotten replies from him directly. My rep is 100% against this and has promised me he will do everything in his power to stop this project from happening...not just to the Mexico Bay area, but lake-wide!

Thanks for the heads-up!

Does anyone know of any seminars being held over the winter months dealing with fishing Lake O? I know the Cabelas in Hamburg, PA held some the past few years in February, which I attended, but I have not seen any indication there are any planned this year. Anyone know for sure or if there may be some others being offered at different locations? This cabin fever is getting to me!

Just an update: I just received an email from a representative in Oswego County. He states that after the collapse of the turbine in Fenner, it is very doubtful anyone will approve construction of the windfarm in water, which is subject to much more extreme wind forces and underwater currents than is present on land. Definitely a positive sign, but still a battle.

SWEET!!! You have to let us know how it works in a few months!!

Nice catch!!!

Thanks, Ray! LOL.

Same exact trolling rod I use, too! I have (6) of them, as well, and each has a Daiwa SG47LC or LCA reel. (2) of them have to be at least 8 years old and they still do the trick every year. Love the Eagle Claws!

Here are some pictures of the rod. Rod standing vertically against the house between the windows: Model number & info: Shot of the handle & grip:

I have a meeting this evening (leaving in about 30 minutes), but will try to get a picture of it up later tonight when I get back home. I'll check out the Exceler reel. This rod could do double-duty as a chute rod with the 47, and switch reels for stream & river fishing. Hmmm, sounds like a keeper to me!!
-
Well, I have a place for the 47LC now! New downrigger rod I bought end of the season. Any suggestions on a good reel for this rod? I've never done river fishing before, but would like to try it. A good spinning reel or a casting reel be best?
-
If it is a river rod, then the 47LC on it certainly doesn't belong there, right?
