I talked with my co-worker and he was, in fact, referring to stream fishing, not out on the lake itself. He said he's heard about the great fishing opportunities in the streams and rivers...that's what he wants to try. I think I talked him into trying the lake out at some point, too. He's going to look into chartering a boat, if they go that route, as well. Thanks to all for your replies and input.

Sandy Creek Pen Rearing Meeting Scheduled

How many Chinook eggs did they end up harvesting last fall? -
I figured the regs between the lake and tributaries may be a little different. I'm guessing that is what my co-worker heard. I'll check with him later today when I see him and ask him where he was planning on fishing that he heard about the single hooks. He's only done stream fishing his whole life, so perhaps that is the regs he thought applied. I'll get back to you once I talk with him. Thanks to all for your replies so far. I figured there had to be some confusion with the information on his end. Otherwise, we'd ALL be running around starting a new collection of lures before the season starts.

A co-worker who has only fished rivers and streams here in PA came up to me today and asked me about fishing on the lake. He and a few buddies are planning their first ever trip up to Lake O this summer and asked me about hooks. He says he was told that you're only allowed to use a single hooks now. I told him that can't be true because all the common lures we troll with (MI Stingers, NK's) have treble hooks. Has anyone heard about this or do you think my co-worker was given some very false information? I'm taking one of my 3 tackle boxes in tomorrow to show him what I run.

Nice to see you here, Keith! You'll soon see what I was talking about in my PM to you the other day about the group here. You're gonna love it!

Would you be upset... because I sorta am

I have been using Fish Wish Taxidermy in Port Ontario (behind Woody's) and have been very happy with the results. I caught a 42", 33lb king back in 1998 and had Maggie at Fish Wish handle the mounting responsibilities. To this day, the mount still looks beautiful and I continue to get nice comments on it. It looks exactly like the king I caught. -
I'm adding a copper rig to my setup this year. That, along with some information I took in at Pete Lahosky's seminar at Cabelas.

How much did you end up getting in Quakertown? We had about 1/2" of snow here before it changed over to sleet...and was it ever coming down. Made for a lovely drive home from work Tuesday evening. Torrential rain flooded out a lot of roads today. Supposed to change back over to snow overnight tonight. Guess Puxatawney Phil was right afterall. Ugh, I'm really itchin' to go fishin'!

Welcome to the site. Whatever kind of information you need about fishing, you'll find it here. There's a great group of people here willing to help anyone out.

Welcome to the site, Joe! Nice to see another Islander owner join here. I have a 221 Islander and launch out of Mexico Point. Have you ever launched at Mike's Marina or Mexico Point? I've seen a 19' Islander (blue/white with a blue top, cooler on the swim platform) at both locations a few times being launched/retrieved. Any chance it was yours? Again, welcome to the site!

I've been running Cannons since 1993 and have no complaints.

You're right...shame on me. What was I thinking? Guess I'm in such a hurry to get up to the house and get on the water! We'll have to meet up this summer. I've talked to Clark a few times on here so far. Sounds like a plan! Who wants to bet that Puxatawney Phil was wrong about seeing his shadow and the truth is that spring is right around the corner? Any takers? I know my boat's itching. I crawled inside 2 weekends ago to check on things. I got a strong vibe that she's ready.

Welcome Icekimo! I'll be interested in reading your reports from up north.

Welcome to the site! I personally don't fish for walleye, but sure you'll get a lot of replies and info from the other members here!

Welcome to the site! What kind of ideas are you looking for? Boat rigging, rods, reels, hot spots, etc? You're in the right spot! Great group of fellow Lake O fishermen here with a wealth of knowledge.

No problem. I'm kinda glad I topped the tank off before I stored it for the winter. Who knows what fuel prices will be like come April.

It is hard to tell from the picture. Looks like it might, but tough to call. The 14XG covers the entire Great Lakes. More than we'd need for just Lake O, but at least you're sure you'd be covered.

I was scrolling through the older posts this morning and thought I'd chime in on this one. My Starcraft 221 Islander has the 4.3L Mercruiser and a 52 gallon tank. I can be on the water for 7-8 hours and only use about 10-12 gallons. This includes the running on plane time out and back in. The 4.3L is very fuel efficient, in my opinion. Especially helpful with the price of fuel these days.

You can get the marine StaBil at West Marine. I saw it on the shelves a few weeks ago when I was in there looking around. It was about 2x the cost of the normal pink StaBil we're used to seeing, but if it does what the label says it does, the extra $$$ may be worth it.

I've always been told to make sure the tank is full before storing to prevent open areas where moisture can form and corride parts. But, after reading the above posts regarding the poor gas we have to deal with, I'm wondering if making sure the tank's empty now isn't such a bad idea. I filled my 52 gallon tank before storing the boat and added enough of the standard pink colored StaBil for the amount of fuel. Guess I'll find out in a few months if I made a bad decision or not.

Cabelas Seminar with Capt. Ernie Lantiegne
Misty IV replied to Misty IV's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I decided not to go, just because I assumed Ernie wasn't going to be there. Oh well. Mis-communication happens. Hopefully I'll be able to catch him next time around. Rich, was the phone call you received saying Ernie wasn't coming from someone at Cabelas? Hope he had a great turnout anyways! -
Cabelas Seminar with Capt. Ernie Lantiegne
Misty IV replied to Misty IV's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Thanks for the heads-up, Rich. I'll check back here in the morning before I hit the road. I'd hate to drive 1.5 hours one way for nothing. Hope Ernie's able to make it. -
