Thanks for the replies so far. I know there are a lot of choices out there. I was inquiring about the West Marine batteries because there is a store not far from me. For the type of use and demands we, as Lake Ontario fishermen, put on our batteries and equipment, are the AGM versions a better choice than the flooded-cell?

Just had my Interstate deep cycle battery bite the bullet after (3) hard years of use, running the downriggers, all electronics, radio, etc. I'm interested in hearing what everyone else uses for their deep cycles. The Interstate has been good for me, don't get me wrong. We can no longer get them through work, however, so being forced to look at other brands. I've heard some good things about the Deka Intimidator series. Anyone have any feedback on the West Marine batteries? Any input is appreciated. I have a few weeks to find a new battery before I am back up to the lake again. Thanks!

I ate about 10 salmon fillets we caught last year and they were some of the best tasting salmon I've had in years. No health issues for me or anyone that ate the fillets.

http://www.ijc.org/en_/ These are the people who control the levels of the lake. There is a battle going on to retain the current water level plan, called 1958DD. The IJC wants to enact a new plan, called BV7, which would cause catastrophic damage to property owners and marinas along the shoreline, especially when there are the major storms out of the north and west. The IJC doesn't seem to care about us, despite every single NYS county along the US side of Lake Ontario rejecting this plan. The politicians in Albany have no idea what they are possibly going to allow. They don't live or work along the lake. They do not have a clue what catastrophic damage will occur if BV7 is allowed to pass. I've attached a link to an article from the Democrat and Chronicle which does a good job of summarizing the issues of this proposed new plan. I have a contact in Oswego who has been following this since day-one when it appeared about 3 years ago. The plan was already shot-down once, yet the IJC is attempting to pass it through again. While parts of the plan sound good (ie. higher lake levels for getting our boats out of channels and into the lake), in the big picture, our marinas would be under water. Properties along the lakeshore would be swept away when the storms hit. I own property along the eastern shore and, comparing the current 1958DD regulated water levels to the proposed BV7 plan, even at the highest water level, a storm's waves will NEVER breach my storm wall and flood out my lakehouse under the current 1958DD plan. With the BV7 plan, a big storm would have the waves crashing on my front lawn, with water running through my living room and out my back door. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20120603/NEWS01/306030049/Water-levels-plan-Lake-Ontario-St-Lawrence-River-sparks-debate?nclick_check=1

We need to keep an eye on things. I've gotten word that the planned project to put turbines in Lake Erie is a "go". The same thing seems to exist there that we dealt with initially - nobody was aware the pinwheel projects were a topic. Seems a large chunk of them are planned to go up between Erie and Buffalo. Way too close for comfort, if you ask me!!! And, reports are that the residents are FOR them. I've not heard much response from the fishermen...possibly because they do not know about them. Can anyone from the western end of the lake advise if they've heard more about the Lake Erie project?

I agree with Tim. Many days I've been heading out in my 22', smaller boats have been coming in. When things get snotty on the lake, I definitely think there is an advantage to the extra 2'. Just to compare. I've been a Starcraft owner my entire fishing life. Started out with an 18' and then moved up to my current 22'. Both aluminum, both deep-V hulls. I remember days out on the 18' that I shouldn't have been out in, however I knew the boat's limitations and knew when to call it quits and go into port. Now, with my 22', I've been in some seas that I'd never take the 18' out in. The extra length and weight definitely make a difference, in my opinion. Max on my 18' was 3 footers. I've been in 4-5 footers with my 22' Islander and never felt unsafe or in danger.

Wanted Need top for islander
Misty IV replied to bigturk_80's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
If you need a soft top and want new, I went straight through my Starcraft dealer. It took about a month for it to come in, but the fit and quality was worth the wait. -
I'll be putting the electronics on the boat this weekend. I work in Chester Springs, just north of the Downingtown Turnpike exchange on Rt100. If you'd be willing to let me try your card, that would be so appreciated. I'll PM you to discuss meeting up somewhere

My Raymarine Raychart 425 started acting up last season and, after returns to Raymarine for diagnosis and repairs, they determined one of my issues was the Navionics card was defective and needs replaced. Odd how a card can suddenly go bad, but it is an electronics device, so suppose anything is possible. My question revolves around the compatability of the new cards. My currect unit is the older 648XL. My Raychart says it is compatible with Navionics cards. Does anyone know if the new Platinum cards work in the older GPS Chartplotters? I'd hate to go and spend $200+ only to find out it doesn't work and my only option would be to have to go buy a complete new Chartplotter. Input? I can't seem to get any difinitive answers from the Navionics website. Thanks!

The "Misty" name goes back to the early 70's when my dad owned a modified V-hull Thompson. It was named Misty. My grandfather purchased a 1975 Pacemaker 42' Sportfisherman and named it Misty III. Once I was old enough to own my own boat, I wanted to keep the family heritage going, so my first boat back in the mid-90's was named Misty IV. When I sold that boat and upgraded to my Islander in 2005, I toyed with naming it Misty V, however everyone knew me as Misty IV, so I transferred the name over to the Islander, despite many people saying it's bad luck. I never could find out what happened to Misty II, but my dad says it may have been the name of the inflatable raft on the Pacemaker.

Coastal storm?

I wish my area would get one decent snowstorm, then spring can come as quickly as it wants to. -

I'm in the process of cleaning-up and re-evaluating the layout on the boat. Given my plans, the Big Jon manual planer reels shown are available. I bought them about 3 years ago when plans to build some type of radar arch/rod holder came into view, however, that plan never came about, so these have pretty much sat year after year. I did try them a few times since purchasing them and they work great. I'm hoping they go to someone who will use them and use them hard!! They have 150' of high-visibility 135lb test line. Ready to install. Asking $100 for the pair.

I have a pair of Daiwa AccuDepth reels available. Both are about 2-3 years old and have had very little use. They were originally purchased to be leadcore reels and did fine, however after about a year of use, I slowly started using the copper more and more. Hence, these sat more than they got used. I didn't use them at all last year. One is the AD57LC and the other is the ADP57LC. Both are still fully spooled with 10-color leadcore. Asking $100 for the pair.

Thanks, that was the name I remember seeing now. Shame the Thompson name died again. Tim, your friend is one lucky individual. The boat was a sweet looking ride from the ad I saw. I think I read that they were 100% fiberglass, as well - no wood anywhere on the boat.

I remember seeing an ad in a fishing magazine, probably at least a year ago, about Thompson Boats coming back. An existing boat manufacturer purchased everything from Thompson and was going to begin building the line again. The particular ad I saw showed the 24' hardtop on a trailer, 350 MerCruiser, and factory rigged with downriggers and electronics. Does anyone know which manufacturer owns Thompson now and is building the line again? I know Thompson went out of business years ago, so it was nice to see someone bringing the brand back. I did an online search and cannot locate anything. I'm not replacing my Islander, sorry. Just looking for more information.
