been fishing LO my whole life for salmon and bass, never hooked an eye, didn't even know they were out there, pick em up in the inlets. Anyone willing to discuss what to look for?
the launch on the North end (public) launch, well i know "people" who might park there up till 2am when the Marge's closes without any issues. I'm not sure what kind of person would sit on the beach drinking till 2am but never had any problems.
seen a few of em on th south end never hooked one. Every time the seam to just sit there, confuse em for a stick pretty easy. Right at the surface, poke at em a little bit and off they go.
All my life growing up in rochester fishing hedges and Ibay, well a new chapter has unfolded. For the first time took the boat up the river to chase some bass/eyes. No eyes but slaughtered the largemouth. Fished from 6-9am and ended up with 15-20 bass, some smallies and my first catfish, 8-10lber and a couple nice northerns, one being my uncles first. Good stuff going on in the river, next week I'll have more time to go chase the eyes upriver, didn't get much past turning point b/c of time restraint.
thanks , we're camping for a week, gonna have wife and twin 1 year olds, so fishing times limited, but two out of our party of 20 bringing there boats ( I gotta tow my trailer) Guess we'll play around and see what we do, might try dropping riggers in saranac.
just west of Angel rock past burnahm there's a point, first point, almost same longetude as western tip of island. Along this plane (varing slightly) theres a long drop off, 9-30' over a period of 20 yards or so (varying). I was drifting this (easterly drift) 6/21-6/23 and did quite well for smallies and big perch. When that slowed down i moved shallower, drifting powerbaits on spinners from burnham point to millens bay.
Heading up to Little Saranac, fish creek ponds specifcally on 7/18 for a week. Never fished the area, anyone know anything about the fishery, warm and stream?
Stuck to the south shore mainland drifting spinners with powerbaits, action was hot, couldn't find much size, headed a lil deeper (17-20ft) a little bigger, nothing great but hit the jack perch unexpectedlty, filled a bucket with 10 plus inchers. Added bonus. Overall, quite a few smallies but the largest 16.5"
Have a goood weekend guys, see what i can do up there, wive and kids tagging along as well as mom, sister and her BF who's never touched a fishing pole. Me and the old man will get some hours in though. Best of luck to y'all that will be fishing this weekend. Hope the weather holds up up there. thanke Gene
Well we'll see what happens, plan to jig the shoals to start, give it a whirl. winds supposed to be out of the sw so should be prefferable. If no luck we'll switch to eyes and pike. thanks for the reply. Heading out soon as i get out of this ambulance @ 0700
Heading to burnham point for the opener. Anyone in the area know if featherbed producing? If not where any smally hot spots are round carelton? Typically fish the west side for eyes not bass.
Heading to indian river near theresa this weekend for some hard water. Any tips on targeting eyes'. Catch em in the summer. Usually get allot of pike through the ice but not eyes.
I've caught more fishing for large mouth with your everyday large mouth tackle than I've caught when targeting em. I like a fuzzy grub (chartuese) with a spinner just over the weeds.
