I hit the woods today, however I myself seemed to lack the excitement knowing I could only shoot a doe. But i love every day of hunting so I'll keep going out regardless if I agree with the new rule or not(which I don't). I had one on camera two winters ago in Alfred. I emailed the DEC the picture and asked a few questions. I was told In the southern tier the population was starting to rebound. They also wanted to know what kind of habitat he was in and a general area. I guess they are working with colleges and trying to put a study together as well they several hair traps to get a better estimate on their range and numbers. Conquest scents have worked wonders over every scent I've used. It's comes in a deodorant stick form. It can be pricey depending on which scent you choose to buy. I always buy the evercalm "yellow stick "which is purely a bedding scent. The advantage that I have scene is that scent seems to put the deer at ease while in the area of the scent. I've had many spooked deer or tail up and blowing run into the area with the scent and calm right down and begin foraging again. I think the success is in the simplicity, it simply smells like a deer. I use about half of a stick in a season and it still holds the smell for next season. I'd say for the price it worth it's weight in gold. I have not tried the estrus scent but I'm sure I works just as well Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I was just at my place across from Carlton island. The wife and i fished 3days straight and only caught one nice small smallie. 18FOW drifting. I swear by rage broad heads. I generally don't shot over 30yards and have never lost a deer with them. I do hear the claims of them not passing through, but I've never had an issue and my bow is not cranked up. I won't be switching anytime soon. Here's my thought, the majority of people will now skip the first two weeks of bow and the last week of muzzleloader. The doe harvest numbers will mimic last years and we'll be in the same boat. Now I am by no means a trophy hunter, but I'm not going blow a good set to shoot a doe when on oct 16th I can shoot a doe if I so choose. What I think would of been a better idea if they needed to make their change was maybe a week of doe only say October 15-21 during the so called lull period. Bottom line everyone I've talked to was not happy with the change I also wonder how many bucks will be shot in the first two weeks and tagged as if they were shot else where Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Wishinfishin the weeds aren't horrible yet so you'll be fine....fishing has been decent still.....you can fish outside bay for pike I've had the best luck fishing west rather that east when outside of the bay...the water temp hasn't changed to much...good luck if you get out Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

All casting by the markers...trolling could work outside the bay on the mud line. Inside the bay I think you'd spend more time catching bottom, I'd say the avg depth is 4ft .........if your not familiar with the bay ONLY go in and out with the markers or you'll need a new lower end.. across the mouth there is an old rail bed / pier not sure it was taken out long before I was born Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
