  1. Trolled in front of four mile creek today from 12:00-3:00. Water temp was between 37.4 and 39.5, the warmest water was about 1/2 mile east of 4 mile. The wind was out of the east and blowing pretty good. Lost one and ended up with 2 browns and 1 small coho. Rapalas caught all three. Launched out of the fort and there was NO ice in the river. Tomorrow, I might try out of Wilson, I planned on heading out there today but somehow I ended up at the fort.
  2. Haven't heard of anyone getting any yet, should be any day though.
  3. I'm going to try and make it out on mon or tues, probably going to launch at Wilson. I'll post, good or bad.
  4. Fenceman There is a ton of ice moving down the Niagara right now. You could still get your boat out but I think it will be tough finding warm water. I'd try out by Wilson or Olcott. I was just down at the lake and this north wind is making it pretty rough, and the brown water is out pretty far. When are you thinking about going?
  5. Thanks for the info guys, I'll be sure to post pictures when I get back.
  6. Ray, you are a self-employed business man that has to work to earn a living. The mistakes that you make directly impact you and your family. These wonderful arses from Albany do not see the impact that their bad choices make. Will closing a park bother a person that has never been to a park? Why do they care if the close a public launch, there private launches at their yacht clubs are probably accessible whenever they choose. Does it matter if they raise a tax that they are exempt from paying? Just another case of "if it doesn't affect me or the people close to me it does not matter"! Ray, as a small business owner how much revenue(taxes) do you collect for the state annually? And what is it, one-tenth of a percent that they let you keep for being a tax collector? I'll take a plummer over a politician any day.

    Outboard

The needle and seat could be a problem also. They are pretty easy to remove and usually inexpensive.
  8. I think that I might be going to Lake Chautauqua this summer for a short vacation. I have never been to the lake before and was just looking for a little advice. We are thinking about going the last week in June and will be taking the boat. I have heard that there is a healthy population of musky and walleye and will probably be fishing for both. We aren't exactly sure where we are staying yet, any advice on that would be great also. Thanks in advance.

  10. I have trolled them up north with some success. A few of the guys called it snap jigging. We were in 14 foot boats with 10hp motors, just idle along and troll, but every 10-15 seconds you would snap the rod forward 2-3 feet. I guess the idea behind it is when you pull forward the bait rises of the bottom, when the rod is brought back, the bait moves back down. It seemed most hits were either on the "snap" or on the descent. We used Fin-s and Berkley Gulp Alive minnows. Water depth 8- 10 feet. I don't think this would work in water deeper than maybe 15.
  11. They can beat the price if it is convenient for them and they can still make a large enough profit. They won't be getting my business.
  12. Tree top a few things to try: 1. Make sure that you do not have to much grease on the splines. 2. Put the prop in forward and slowly turn the prop while pushing it up. 3. Make sure that the rubber from the old housing isn't hung up anywhere. Just some thoughts
  13. I have lived in Youngstown all my life and the only people that have a clue where it is, are salmon fisherman. They may not know Youngstown but they know the Niagara Bar! With the amount of information that I have learned from the people on this site, anytime I can return a favor, I'm glad to!
  14. I have never stayed in the motel, just live in Youngstown. I hear it's your typical motel in a small town. Clean and nothing fancy. The guy that owns it, Bruce, has always been pretty nice to me.
  15. The boom will not be let out on the first, probably 7-10 more days.
  16. Hookedup Here are a few options: The River Loft -716-745-3335 The Fyfe and Drum 716-745-1295 The Youngstown Motel 716-745-9906 If you are just looking for a bed, The Stone Jug is great. There is a bar downstairs and six rooms upstairs. I believe he is charging $40 a night. He doesn't have a phone number, but if you want I can track him down. He is always in one of the bar stools! Good Luck
  17. Who's heading to the streams on the first? Which streams will you be fishing? I won't be making it down until Friday night, but will be able to fish all weekend. Mostly I'll be fishing the Eat Koy, Wiscoy, Cat and the Lime Lake Outlet. I just started fishing Lime Lake a few years ago and love the stream. It usually doesn't get to much pressure and has some beautiful holes on it. I heard that there are still some native brooks in there but haven't caught one yet. A friend just got back from fishing the Genny and said that it got pounded pretty hard for the past week. He managed to catch fish, but really had to work for them. Good luck.
  18. With the switch installed I would keep a trolling battery and also a starting battery. Use the starting battery to start it then switch over to the trolling battery once the I/O is running to charge it. This way you are still getting the best performance for trolling and starting. Just an idea.
  19. Fished from about 4:00-6:00, 8-12 feet of water in front of four mile creek. Water was between 38-41 degrees. The warmest water was about one mile west of the mouth of the creek. The lake was rough and we only managed to hook the one laker, gold and black J9 Rapala. The wind really picked up so we called it a day. A few more weeks and we will be chasing KINGS out on the bar.
  20. What type of out drive? On a merc there is a hole in the side of the housing that a 1/4" extension will fit through making in it much easier to tighten. If that hole doesn't work, on the bottom of the housing on the starboard side I believe that there is a recess that allows more room for you to tighten the clamp. I have found that it is much easier to do this with the out drive removed. I have heard that you can run it with out because the exhaust riser is above the water line, but I do not know this to be true.
  21. Youngstown, NY
  22. He liked it except for the increase in the amount of drag. He was running it with a 12 lb roundball and probably would have been better of using a pancake weight. Besides this no complaints.
  23. Long story, short. He bought equipment for a boat that didn't belong to him. He is no longer using that boat so he has no use for the depth raider.
  24. Pictures added
  25. Posting for a friend. Depth Raider bought last year and used it maybe 6 times. He is asking $325. 716-628-0520, his name is Chris
