  1. i was in the same area 6am to 11.saw i boat net a fish.from 40 fow to 120 fow.fish was in 80.next week.the guys who went by the plant had a good day.
  2. started @4:15 quit @7:40. nada.not even a false release.started in 60,went out to 150,worked 120 around the outside of the pack.weather permitting will be out sun. am.didn't see much action on the other 100 boats either.
  3. just noticed-boat name Last Chance ch 78 and montier 68 as well.
  4. i'm going to set-up in 60,work out to 80fow,if i don't mark anything i will drop everything to within 5-10 feet from the bottom.may check 100 fow and if still nothing,go in to 40.my best guess is 60-80 laying on the bottom where they won't mark much of the time till dark.then they pop up like majic.will be out sat 3-8 pm or so.will share info with anyone who calls.good luck
  5. billyv- have only run 2 dipsys to a side a couple times.opposite of your way.doesn't having the deeper diver down low make it harder to get the rod out without hitting the high diver?pulling the front one out and up would seem more cumbersome.
  6. i lost a watermelon savant to approx. 28 lber tues night just after dark.line caught on the bottom of the hoop and sliced it after the fish circled the rigger cable.oops!
  7. know what you mean.had three real heavy screamers come un-butted on my dipsys,2 out the three were peeling line on their first run and...nothing.amazing how that happens.
  8. how tight was your drag set?dipsy hits are usually viciuos.i use snubbers on the wire and tighten the drag just enough to keep the line from leaking out,on hard turns a little click click click can be heard.there were some big fish in the neighborhood this week-end for sure.see you next trip.
  9. 30 on flasher fly center rigger,50 on corners.corners 10 and 20 deeper than center.worked this week anyway.
  10. fri eve.off the big salmon 1/2 in 105 fow.both off a dipsy, gave it a 6 yr old, garrett lawton, gave it a good effort for about 10minutes and gave it to mom who gave it to dad.dipsy rods a little big for him but he swings a mean priest.28 lb king.sat. left at 5am quit at 10:30 started at same place went in to 80 fow and headed west.from dowie dale to catfish 4/5 between 79 and 85 fow,3 over 25 1 16lber.3 hits on wire dipsys,on 2 189 ft and 221 feet ouy, black dalmation s/d with a problem child took one, green dalmination with a green killer took 2, savant rainbow smelt took 2 kings 87 foc out,1 was 28 and change.ran a mountain dew spin doc center rigger high,67foc,put a spoon on either side run 10 and 20 feet deeper and 30 feet farther back.has worked well three trips now.spoon that took the fish was my 15 lb light rod.stayed out of the zoo, what a mess of boats off the plant sat.couldn't begin to count them all.sat. eve., blown off after an hour nada.
  11. womans first salmon fishing trip ever.pending genetic testing to be sure it is not a hybrid, and pending the test of the 30 feet or so of line bob submitted, this would be a world record fish and possibly an igfa line class record.
  12. i don't think anyone wants to predict what will be going on this year in mid-sept.there will be fish in the lake.if all the matures have run the next year class can usually be found off shore.in mex. bay it would be a longer run to 180fow and up for 10-15 lb fish.if they haven't run , they should be shallow and j-plugs,spoons and even flys will work.biggest problem then will be boat traffic.i'm still somewhat new at this and can't remember a season like this one,the waterin all the tribs is high and when the fish showed up they seem to moved in closer and out of temp faster than i am used to.i hope they hang where they are for a while but i suspect they may run early this year.roll the dice and come on out.
  13. the three things i check when i don't have a probe.1)bend in the dipsy rods.2)the action on the thumper rods tip.nice even pull 1 2 3 .....4 is perfect.3)the pitch of the rigger cables hum.when all three look good i am generally pulling fish.
  14. i have a x-52. when mine does that it is the settings in the menu.i usually have it set on auto-depth.about twice a year it re-sets itself, picks a depth range, say 60ft and when you past that the bottom dis-appears. before you do anything else, check the settings in the menu.
  15. there are a few scattered kings in the big salmon already.friend of mine who lives in pulaski spotted them while bass fishing.
  16. 4 this year so far.all released.all between 3-7 lbs.
  17. nice fish.can't wait to go fri afternoon.nice ride as well.you came in behind me week before last.
  18. nice fish jay.real nice.
  19. I don't think the tournements are a factor.on any week-end i haven't seen as many boats as years past.i believe that is due to gas spiking the way it has,and guys saving money till the reports are better.i do a lot of catch and release and am definatly in the minority.almost all the boats near me kill every legal fish that comes on board whether in a tourney or not.and yes,in warm water i do keep most kings and any other fish not likely to recover.
  20. what a great start with a new boat.every islander owner i know is happy with them.
  21. my prediction-lots of salmon starting the evening of 8/05 and a feeding frenzy lasting untill 8/10.based on the fact i have to attend a conference in philadelphia during this time.happens around the same time every year and the fishing is always good.sharpen the hooks and have fun.
  22. dang! stayed home sunday.great job.nice to hear a few kings showed up.i'llbe looking for my first one fri. afternoon.sat. the boat behind me pulled a small king after i got a brown out of his way.
  23. i think it will be bigger.seems like there is more chat about it and with the proceeds going to the f.haven net pens i think it will pick up a few more boats from there.i guess we will all know tomorrow.see you at the meeting.
  24. my probe rigger developed a minor problem last weekend.if the cold water stays i would think they should come in as long as the bait is there.will run out with the ff on and if i spot hooks we'll give them a whack.and yes it was your report, thanks for the info.could be the temp has to stabilize for a few days before the salmon move shallower.gas wise, the shorter the run the better.see you this week-end.
