  1. ok.so i hear there is now 44 degree water 60 feet down in mex. bay.there is bait in 80 to 110-20 fow.why run to 200-300 fow?shouldn't the fish be between 41-54 degrees in/around the bait?or am i missing something?was thinking deeper fri am but if the water temp is that cold at 60 ft down and i find bait, curious as to why most are going deeper.thanks.

    ted,glad you found a boat.enjoy.
  4. we've all been pushed around and i've got off course at least once when solo with fish on. if you're lonely get observed with a fish on on a slow day.the ocansional screw up is bound to happen, but there are a few boats who are habitual offenders day in day out.recs and pros alike. i have learned to avoid their section of the lake, unless i am in the boat for sale no one wants to buy.then if they break it,they or their insurance carrier can buy it.
  5. you want your bait above the fish.they will come up to feed often but seldom go down.depending on my speed and resulting blowback,60 feet of cable could be 50-55 ft down.i try to be 5-10 feet above the marks.
  6. friday was a nice ride with a good custumer and new friend.nothing.nice sunset.wally discovered his sunscreen kept flies from biting.info he forgot to share for two hours.sat afternoon we did two nice atlantics,10 and 18 down over 30 fow, savant bumblebee and purple edge glow.i bassmaster set the hook on a good fish on a stinger super muffin and snapped the 8 lb.got a big smallie on the seven color with a michael jackson.easy 6 lbs, maybe close to seven.couple of normal smallies.sun afternoon went from 30 to 90 fow,no marks,no bait.ran 8 lines.no problems.20 to 30 fow all smallmouths.nice 4 to 7:30 cruise.next week deeper for salmon.
  7. i thought that was the second bend.but i could be lost.
  8. i like my track system.i put mine on a rail becuse i wanted extra height.keeps the crew inside.look around the marina a little bit.almost every rail you see Mike built and installed, including mine along with the rod rocket on the arch.he doesn't charge to look it over and could probaly put one together very reasonably.if your sides are high enough, just the track system is fine.takes me less than 15 mins. to pull or install 4 riggers and I don't hurry.could do it in seven if i didn't talk so much.
  9. gotta ask cuse i'm easily confused...sandy creek near the big salmon river or sandy around rochester?
  10. spoon-savant rainbow smelt fly- jv cheerleader-s.d. innovator mountain dew. i would miss the other 649 spoons though.
  11. stayed near port(lsr) due to iffy weather,went from 10 to 30 fow.picked 4 bass 15 to 20 down 8 and 12.2 each on savant jakes , frog and bumblebee.love that bumblebee.bass.2 to 4 lbs.at least not a skunk.
  12. thanks guys.saw your post.just had a hunch 80-100 might be worth a try.weather allowing you can find me there 3:30-4:00 pm sat.and i post em all, good and bad.and i have a couple of those jake frogs along with a rainbow smelt which worked even better for me last year.
  13. if you were going to try for salmon this week end in mexico bay, where would you start.i am thinking 80-100 fow . after the first light try for browns.
  14. i took their picture with the sonar monday.
  15. most slips have power available.the rest of us use extention cords.as for the ride out,i enjoy it actually.we plan where to start and what to run on the way out and traffic permitting have been known to run a rod down the chute.depending on season we have caught browns/steelhead,bass/northern pikeand later-salmon-browns,big pike.and weeds.
  16. there are lots of places.pick a town or a port and sure one of us will come up with something.
  17. i saw this one late.i have been at mikes several years.never had a problem.beige/blue/white bayliner currently closest to the bridge at mikes west.stop by and say hello if you wish.slip next to me is empty, who knows, you may be my new neighbor.

  23. went out sat. around 4pm.fished in front of the lsr over to dowie dale, good marks in 20 fow,no takers, came in around 6 when i heard thunder.and then the sun came out.set-up today around 6am off sage in 20 fow.fished 20 to 14 with a lot of marks and no takers till 8 then went out to 30fow.went 2 for 3, 2 hits at 25 down 101 back on a stinger orange/brown with black dots, nice little 5 lb steelie.1 really fat 5 lb brown on a savant bumblebee 16 down 100 back.both over 28-30fow.not a great start to the lake season but not bad either.both fish released in great shape.steelie must've cleared the water 2 feet 4/5 times.fought big.like to meet that one at 20 lbs. in a few years.
  24. sounds like a good day for both of you.
