  1. Dave, I believe I committed to enter our boat earlier but just in case here is our commitment again Boat name will be Hannah Christine (named after my grand daughter), we do not have a team name as of yet. Thanks, Shade - Howard Nola
  2. This one I think needs to be listed: june 19th - July 18th - LOC $1200 Daily Boat Derby
  3. I posted to see if anyone used or heard of ITO Flies. I posted the wrong website, actually I left out part of the link. http://www.itoflies.intothegreatlakes.com I have no interests in this business. I was searching the web for sponsors for the Pro/Am and found this guy who with his brother started to make trolling flies. I purchased a couple of un-rigged flies with a comment to see if he would be interested in becoming a sponsor for the Pro/Ams. He sent me an email back and I gave him Bob Cinellie's phone number. I thought maybe someone on the lake had tried these flies before. Thanks, Howie
  4. Wrong website - http://www.itoflies.intothegreatlakes.com Sorry, Shade ps: I use A-Tom-Mik just take a look. Weall try different products for different conditions. This is also a possible Pro/Am sponsor.
  5. Has anyone tried these flies on Ontario. http://www.itoflies.intothegreatlakes.com Shade
  6. Enjoy the day Bob .... Howie
  7. Capt. Vince, I also fish out of Olcott. I use to fish Ontario back in the 70's - the mid 80's. We camped in Barker and launched out of Olcott. Then the kids got older and we stopped camping and living on the west side of Buffalo we went back to bass and walleye fishing in Erie. In 2007 my son decided he wanted to fish for Salmon again so we are back on Ontario. Following some of the tips and techiques on this web site we have began to catch fish. we have yet to really Srping fish but we are intending to get an early start this season. I know you are a Cahrter captain and I certainly would not ask to fish in your pocket but if you would point me in the general direction, outside of the bar (way to crowded for me) where to begin I would appreciate your input. Thanks, Howie
  8. I called the White House to voice my opinion but they said the comments department was closed do to the snow storm. They gave me an email address - http://www.whitehouse.gov/comment which is under construction so I clicked on "contact us" and wrote a comment on that page. The direct number to the comments department is 204-456-1111, Shade
  9. I was reading tips on using 11" Hot Shot Flashers and in this "How To" it reccomends: Running under 40 fow send your (30 lb. test) line out 30 - 70' from release to the 11" Flasher and 60" (30 LB. test) from Flasher to bait at trolling speed of 2.3 - 3.0 mph. They claim this will result in the bait to spin 60 rpm's. Run deeper than 40 fow send the (30 lb. test) line out 18' from release to 11" flasher and 42" (30 lb. test) leader from flasher to bait at same speed. Anyone ever use Hot Shot Flashers? Shade
  10. Paul, Excuse me Paul...the depth chart according to Precision Trolling is 22' down per 100' of 45# Copper which comes to 6.6' down for each 30' out. Better Paul? Thanks for the catch... Gill T, What I read thet 45# copper is 22'/100 out when pulling a spoon @ 2.5 mph. It will sink 20'/100' back when pulling a SD/Fly. I sent a email to Precision Trolling for some clarification but I have yet to get a response. Shade
  11. TT, Laed Core - 27# test, each color is 10 yards or 30', every color of line will sink approximately 5' (if you have 10 colors out which equals 300') you will be about 50' deep) based on downspeed of 2.5 mph. The 45# Copper will sink approximately 22' for every 100' of line out (6 - 6.6'/30'of line out) therefor 300' of copper will hit depths approximately 60 - 66' @ 2.5 mph. Does this help?, if not I have a charts on steel, lead core and copper lines. Give me an email address and I will send it to you. Sorry for the previous mistakes as Paul was so kindly to point out. I should have looked at my charts before I responded. Shade
  12. Never seen or heard of them but I do like the Transparent colors. Shade

  16. Paul, You are absolutly correct, but if you want that stand to produce every year then place a food source by it and watch the results. I believe in change, just look at my quote and we need to adapt if we want to be successful. We could ask why questions all day, like why by just adding a piece of tape to a spoon turns it from a non productive spoon to hot spoon. Last year there was a post asking what were the top 3 spoons that produced. There where 40 different fishermen both charters and week enders who responded which equaled to 120 spoons. Out of the 120 spoons 66 where NBK's (made by NK and MS), the next closest was 8 Sea Sick waddlers and 3rd was 7- 42nd spoons. This goes to exactly what you said to us one time "use the luire you have confidence in". I can not catch a fish on an NBK, but put a Moonshine carb 14, Glow frog or a Spook and we have some fun, WHY? All I can say is if you charter captains did not help us out with techniques most of us would not catch many fish. Maybe I should say helped me out, I can not speak for all who are on this post. You guys put in the time and have the expertice and knowledge to locate fish the rest is up to us to learn from that. I put a lot of time scouting my property year after year searching for that trophy and i hope i can put in more time researching the habits of Salmon and adapting to the changes to be more successful. 17. Very well said gentlemen and my republican friend Paul. Fishing has changed dramatically over the years. back in the early 70's (before Paul made his way to the big"O") the fishing was better, however the fish you caught where not eatable. You also back then (the week end fishermen) took his 15' boat, used manual downriggers, open face reels and a $40.00 depth finder and caught fish, big fish. Same goes for hunting. You went into the woods brushed the leaves away from a tree ,strong your recurve bow with wooden arrows or loaded your improved cylander shotgun with open sites and you hunted. Todays world we have 30 -32' boats, $2500 fish finders, $200 rods/reels, $500 downriggers, cell phones, radar units, 1,000 different lures and flashers, GPS units, rifled barrel guns, scopes that can see a fly at 500 yards, compound bows that shoot 300'/second,tree stands that are 25' feet in the air and scent lock clothing. The game we hunt and fish still have the same sense of smell, same site, live in the same habitate, eat the same food, they reproduce the same way for hundreds of years. Either our wildlife is attending MIT, RIT or Harvard or because of the decline in numbers along with the hunting/fishing pressure forces us to use such technology. Mmmmmmmmmmm
  18. Otter boards by far..reason - for all the reasons you run boards. Shade
  19. Believe, Any questions you have will be answered on this site but first search the headings and most of them are already answered. Start with heading - Questions about Trout and Salmon trolling. There is a post on Perferred temps and scroll down to Trolling for Trout. Heading - Tackle and Techniques - Topic - Rapala's for browns Heading - Tackle Discription - search topics Goto - www.attheoak.com and search topics there as well. As far as running just flat lines you will need as part of your arsenal - 10 color Leadcore line, copper line (30#), steel (30#) and braided lines. Also need snap weights, dipsy's (spring size O or silver dollor), and rods with 12 - 17 lb. test mono. Water depth anywhere from 5' out depending where the warmest waters are. I am not an expert on trout but this is what I have learned. Shade

  23. Tim, I talked to her last Tuesday and she does not think she can. I talked to Bob C. and he got me in contact Ron Hedley. I have to meet Ron tomorrow at 10:30 to see what he has. Worse comes to worse I will either go to Wilson or the Oak. Thanks everyone. See ya'll on the water. Fish hard but fish safe. Howie
  24. Pike Hunter, No...I never put Bananas on the boat...our Boat was named Bananas and we still have her. She's going to Erie. We needed a bigger cuddy to cut costs on accommidations charges so we can fish more tournaments up and down Ontario, price was right and this will be our last for a long time. Shade
