  1. Bob, I agree but lets take it one step farther and try and get the teams who have stopped competing back. We need to find the root cause of their departure from the Pro/Ams like Tom did in Oswego. It may be as simple as a rule change to get them back. Shade

Fellow Hunters, Most hunters today either own or lease land and only hunt with friends or family members. The first thing hunter should do is talk to his neighbors. This would allow you to see what type of hunters are around you and where they normally consintrate their hunt. You need to ask if they have any hunters that stalk instead of still hunt and just advise them if you have rifle hunters in your camp and pass this info to your hunting camp. Chowder asked why we can not get close enough with a slug gun. Todays slug guns can throw a slug accurate up to 200 yards, black powder as far as 250 - 300 yards, pistals can also shoot to 200 yards. The rifle is not the only powerful weapon in the woods anymore. Safety first. It does not matter what the weapon is but knowing who is around you. If you get permission to hunt neighboring properties or farm land ask who else is hunting on the same land and about the surrounding lands. The biggest area of uncertanty is State lands and I refuse to hunt State lands. Shade
  5. www.olcott-newfane.com Look under accomadations. Lot of nice cottages that are very clean for families and reasonable rates. There is Olcott beach and a small carnival for the grand kids. Docks are available at the marina. Shade

  12. Gentlemen please do not take this personally but I have been fishing for WELL over 40 years as have many of you. I have fished all over NY State, Texas, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and until I brought my Yellow bellied Boat named Bananas to the Boat Doctor in Olcott to store it for winter is when I was told that Bananas was voodoo in the waters. Now I believe that fish depend on their site and sense of smell when feeding but I have a hard time believing that a Salmon or Trout that is 50 - 100 feet down can smell or see a BANANA and if you believe there is a force that will prohibit you from catching a fish if you have a BANANA in your boat or lunch bag.....PLEASE SEEK HELP IMMEDIATLY.. Catching fish in Onatario takes a small amount of luck but a huge amount of knowledge and experience. Just ask some of the newbees that could not put a fish in their box without some guidance from some of the experienced and knowledgsble fishermen on this site. I was one of those guys 5 years ago. I have yet to see anyone when helping a fellow fishermen tell them RULE ONE - DO NOT HAVE A BANANA IN YOUR BOAT, Rule two - find green water - rule 3 - Presentaion and so on... have a great day ladies and gentlemen...fish safe..take a kid fishing Howie
  13. Ray, You need to take your wiffy to a nice restaurant and hold her hand, look into her eyes and say "Honey please do not call me between 6am and 2pm unless it is an emergency" and wiffy you can call me anytime after 2pm with all the phone fun loving you want............ The only thing that should come over Channel 16 is ....Hey Ray you harry back SOB...call you wiffy... Howie
  14. GF, I will be staying in Olcott Sat, Sun and leaving Monday afternoon. Stop by. We will be in the cottage 2nd on left side as you come into the marina. Look for a maroone Ford Pick Up. Howie

  20. Tom, I also say NO COMMUNICATION. As far as an emergency. If someone is monitoring Channel 16 at, I will use Olcott and Wilson for example, a phone number should be given out for each Marina so family members can call, then whom ever is monitoring the radio can contact the team by radio and they can respond to the call. If they are concerned that the radio may not get the call then each captain can leave their cell number to the Marina and the marina can contact them by phone. The cell phone can be kept in the vacinity of the observer to notify the captain if a call comes in. My $.02...... Howie
  21. Bass Pro is suppose to break ground next year. As afr as Gander Mountain, I spoke to the manager sevral times and they seem to be stocking more on Hunting supplies, clothing and camping needs then fishing. He said that more and more people are buying direct on the internet. Personally I do not see gander Mountain here once Bass Pro opens their doors. I see the same happening to Dicks Sporting and they becoming more of a Golf and sport clothing store than hunting and fishing. Shade
  22. Rod, Was the open division the answer that the MAJORITY of the fishermen wanted who participate or would participate in the Pro/Am to the original issue on Observers? There are some fishermen who are not members of LOU but fish the Pro/Am. I never saw any voting or discussion on the open division until it appeared in the rules. All I heard is you will see some changes. Who decides on what changes are made from arrising issues? When the concern of long lines at weigh in was brought up, taking a 1/2 hour away from the Ams fixed the long lines but is that what the Amatures wanted or thought to be the fix? When the discussion came up in Oswego and I said why not have the Ams start at 6am and end at 2pm and the Pros start at 7am and end at 3pm I was told that the Pros said it was an disadvantage because the Ams would get to the HOT SPOTS before they did. The only reason I said that is because every Charter starts at 7am and either fishes until noon or 3pm with their clients during the rest of the season. I am going to shut upnow because I know I am going to get flack and I ALREADY VOLUNTEERED TOBE ON THE COMMITTEE. Shade
