  1. Thanks Yankee for the report. Good stuff Shade
  2. Probably a little early but no harm in asking. Anyone know the dates for the 2010 Niagara and Orleans Pro/Am? Shade
  3. Fat Nancy's just recently has a web site where you can see items you want to buy but they are pricey as is Atmic. GLOutdoors sells SD's and ATM flies cheaper and faster delivery. I agree that I do buy from the locals which in my case is Olcott. Normally Wes or Jim will get what you want by the next time I am there and Wes normally carries what is hot at the time. They are infact cheaper than Fat Nancy's as well. The Boat Doctor right now has 12# sharks cheaper mthan any place else. Just my $.02... SHADE
  4. Use an albright knott, but just put some electrical tape on spool and spool the whole 1,000 ft. off wire on the reel. Shade
  5. Here is a pic on Familiar Bite I got from Reeljerks. It shows how the rig should be set up. Look at the curve in the tail. This helps the bait to spin. I am no expert on thie but ReelJerks and Fishstails run this setup. Shade
  6. Thanks for the replies and comments it is well appreciated. Howie
  7. Rod, I remember a post for the a smilar question a whileback and I think Yankee Troller did some research on this subject. I know he runs his copper off Otters. He may have some answers for you. Howie
  8. I use AT&T. I used it in Black Lake, Wellsville, Oswego and always have great reception. My brother has Verizon and he has problems in souther tear and sometimes on the lake. My son has had Cell1 before it became AT&T and he has never changed. Between Verizon and AT&T is a toss up depending where you spend your time I guess. Howie
  9. It's the X4 not the 840. Shade
  10. K, We will be out Saturday as well. Weshould be there around 530. I will be between Channel 10 and 68 or call me 716-704-9242. Maybe we can share info. Howie - Boat Bananas.
  11. Congrats, Hope you and Jerrett can come back over Holiday week end. Shade - Howie
  12. We just purchased a new Fishhawk X4 and before I install I would like some opinions from anyone that has one. I have a 26' Formula, 90" beam and trim tabs. On the starboard side I have a transducer installed for an A60 Raymarine GPS/Depthfinder combo. My questions are can I mount the trasducer on the same side as Raymarine? Can I mount the Transducer on the Trim tab(saw transducers mounted on trim tab on a boat at Boat Doctors in Olcott)? Do I need any additions to secure or add to the probe to inhance its performance? Any and all opinions or experience would be appriciated. Thanks, Howie
  13. Jarrett, I heard you on the radio when I was pulling into my dock and tried to answer you. Friday was slow most of the boats that came in didn't even get a release. In 350' was where most of our action came from but we were infront of the Micro Towers by then. Glad ya had fun and hope to see ya next trip you make to Ontario. We are planning a trip up to west end of Erie next year. Maybe we can hook up then. By the way my boat is a 26' Formula and it handles Ontario just fiine. Howie
  14. Jerrett, Glad you got into some fish. Was that you that went out about 4:30 Friday night. I saw a Ohio number and 3 guys heading out the walls. You called me on the radio and I tried to talk but you were gone or not responding. I left a message on your cell. Shade - Howie
  15. WWIV, My pint was just because the law alows us to take small fish does not mean we should all take small fish. The law also allows us to shoot any size deer you want if you have the permit to do so but why shoot button bucks or yearlings. If you want the fishing to grow let the smalls guys grow to become big guys and if you want your hunting area to continue to excell practice conservation and eliminate the mature does and only shoot the 31/2 year old or 8 point or bigger bucks. Let the small ones grow. Nobodies trying to shove anything in anybodies face or turn this into a slinging match either. You have the right when you buy your licesence to hunt and fish to the regulations set forth. If want to fill your box with limits of fish or shoot small dear on your doe permit then do so. All I am saying is on my boat and on my land if you get the invitation I do not allow small dear or small fish get taken period. I would never say anything to you or anybody if I see them with a small dear on their vehickle or a guy cleaning small fish. This site allows us to voice our opinions and thats how e learn. We can not take this stuff personal. If someone asks you opinion and you give it there should be no hard feelings unless someone points you out personally. Shade
  16. Ray, Do not get me wrong I agree and learn a great deal from your post. I do not believe in the law either I just want to make the point of awareness in a different form then what you said. My training comes from 38 years as a Maintenance Manager in manufacturing. We learned how to get to the Root Cause of problems and these training guides can be also used in our daily lives. It is called the 5 "y's". Example - A women goes to the mall but she uses her husbands car because he blocked hers in when he went fishing. When she finishes shopping she gets into the car but it does not do anything tatally dead. She tries to contact her husband but he has not returned from fishing. She calls AAA. When the AAA tow truck arrives she asks him WHY won't my car start because the battery is dead and he jump starts it. She asks WHY did the battery go dead and he tells her you left the lights on. Why didn't the warning chime go on. He looks and the fuse was blown. Root Cause - if the fuse was replaced the lights would not have been left on and the battery would not have died. When an accident or a problem arrises ask why and usually by bthe fifth time you ask why you will find the real reason why the situation presented itself. Putting bandaids on or pointing fingures will never fix a problem or stop an accident from happening. I always say this web site has an abundance of knowledge and experience in every form there is. Sharing this knowledge is a tool we can not replace and it will prevent accidents, problems and most of all have fun catching fish. Thanks Ray for sharing yours. Howie
  17. Ray, Thats some good advice but this accedent could have been prevented if the guy DID NOT DRINK. Putting on a PDF does not prevent accidents, IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE but it does not prevent what happened. Forn those of you who consume alchohol on your boats do not take this personal but on my boat there is "0" tolerance with booze. I DO NOT ALLOW ANY ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES ON MY BOAT. I am also very strict with equipment and gear. Take a spoon out put the one back and return to its storage place. Many accidents can happen when fishing, hook getting stuck on you body, tripping over a tackle box, slipping on the deck, falling off the boat. ALL these can be prevented if we all would think before leaving the dock. THINK SAFETY. Learn from others mistakes and prevent them from happening on your rig. If you have a smaller craft invest in a kill switch and whom ever is operating the boat attach it to there body so in the event the operator falls or looses control the boat will shut off. As a boat owner you have a responsibility to everyone on your rig. Regarless if its family, friends or a member LOU or LOTSA or anyother orginazation you are a memeber of make sure they understand your rules on your rig and where all your safety gear is before leaving the dock. If ya want to have some beers, wait till ya get back to the dock, campsite, hotel room, etc. Alchohol slows your reaction time down and on an area of 32 sq.ft. or less there is no place for slow reactions. Just my beliefs.........I am sure i am gonna get some flack on the beer thing but thats my rule and I will stick by it. Shade
  18. CaptSpike, I also run a Cannon S&T and the only difference is my ball is only 6" from my probe. I use scotty release so probe stays in the water but I do not run flashers off the probe, I have 3 riggers. I always have at least one rigger on spoons anyway. Shade
  19. I agree. Run deeper line inside but I would run the inside at 1.5 and outside at 3.5 or 4. You must make very wide and very slow turns with 4 wires. If you have outriggers I would run the outside on the riggers for a widfer spread. Running 4 wires takes practice especially when there is traffic on the water. Keep outside out about 180 back (about 55' down)and inside about 240 - 270 (about70' - 80' down). If you run the oiutside at 210 (about 60' down) back run the inside at 300 back (about 90' down). This wioll allow your lines to go over and under each other. Trick is to watch out for your rigger depth as well. Thats why wide and slow turns. Good Luck, Shade
  20. Went out today at 12:30 - 4PM. We went 2 -5 Both bows. Released one hit on wire 240 back over 168 fow Green SD/ATM Hammer. Went 1 hour rigger down 80' over 265 fow fires with NK 28 - NBK, 11 lb. BOW. He swallowed this lure, only about 2" was sticking out of his mouth. Needless to say we had to put him in the box. Went 2 hours with a blank screen so we headed west toward the stakes hit 350 fow wire fires 270 back, screams goes out 400' get it within 80 feet............gone He hits Silver Echip/ATM Altra glow. We check the fly and we notice one of the hooks off the treble hook is broke off. Never seen that before. Next time I go to boat I will take a pick of the fly. Lost two more off riggers and had to pack it in. Left around 4PM. Fishing was slow. Talk to a couple of boats that came in and 2 did not even get a hit and they were out since early am. Some discussions on radio where there was some action in 400' depths but basically very quiet. Shade
  21. I agree with Schools Out except I do not have any backing on my wire I spool 1000 ft on my real. I also use the swivals from SD's but I put them on the end of my Dipsy's. I tie one end of leader to the dipsy and the other to a SD swival. Copper less resistance but run more line, wire more resistance less line. If you want to run 100' down 320' of wire set on #2 will get you close. You will need 500' of copper, less resistance to achieve 100'. To each there own and what ever catches you fish. The real difference is most of the boats fishing have decks 8' or less which presents a challenge when running to wire lines on #2 setting and copper down the chute. You must be very carefull or TANGLES. I went with outriggers to run my wire and it eliminated the tangling problem. Most of us aldo fish weekends when there is an abundance of traffic and it can make havic when trying to make wide turns. In my case we catch more fish on flat lines than riggers. Go figure. Shade
  22. Certainly not pointing anyone out but, I agree with Rod but I take it one step further. If it is small even if it is legal release it, if you are not going to cosume it release it. As Captains of our boats you have a responsibility and these are our fiends and family not paying customers. Hunting and Fishing is a privaledge and a sport...NOT a license to KILL. Shade PS - I have been fishing out of Olcott for 4 years now and I do not think we seen more than 2 floaters.
  23. PRICELESS Howie.....
  24. Happy B-Day What are ya lookin for Ray............
