  1. This is not getting commical it is pretty sad. This website was intended to share stories, help fellow fisherman and show off some of your success fishing. To try and degrade someone for the species they catch or size only shows imaturity and foolishness. It is none of my business how you guys feel about your fishing experience but I say this for the integrity of this site. There is years of fishing experience on this site where you can ask any question wether you think its foolish or not and get a slew of answers, directions and guidelines on any species of fish and almost any place in this USA. If you can not congradulate a fellow fishermen for his success no matter what species he targets then say nothing and move on. If you do not wish to help when a question or problem arrises do not respond but do not make fool of yourself by degrading or making fun of someones stories or problems. There is no room on this site fir that type of behavier. Shade

  5. Bob, I sent a PM to Tom and he said the brackets where a go. Then I sent another to ask if there was a deadline date and I asked him to copy you in on his response. I believe he is fishing the Scotty and i am sure he will respond next week. Howie

  8. Rod, Is there a deadline date for the Brackets entries? Howie
  9. PK, Here are some stats on wire with a dipsy running at 2.5 mph from the Oak and Precsion Trolling. Wire back 210'/ dipsy on #2 setting/sppon - depth is 70', wire back 210'/dipsy on #2 setting/ Spin Doc/fly or spoon - depth is now 64'. Rule - running dipsy with a spoon - take amount of line out divided by 3 = depth, add a flasher -take amount of line out divided by 3 and reduce another 10% = depth. Copper runs 20' down per 100 feet out running flasher with lure and 22' down per 100' back running spoon. To get 70 feet down you need 350' copper. Copper - more $, larger more expensive reel, less resistance and more line out. Wire - less $, special pole, more resistance (Dipsy) and less line out. One more thing, if you run copper down the chute more times then not you will need to real in your copper to land a fish unless you have a 10 - 14 beam on your rig to enable you to land your catch at the back of your rig. I run both depending on our program for that day. There are days when In run one wire and the put copper on a planner, there are days I do not run copper at all. I just gives you more options when fishing. This is just my opinion. Shade
  10. Tom, Anymore talk or decission on the Brackets? I am fishing with Salmon Bound and we want in. Howie
  11. The farther away from the boat the SHOLLOWER you go. When you run 2 dipsy's always run inside poll (deeper and farther back) at a lower angle than the outside poll (shallow) and poll at higher angle. Set your disy's at 1 1/2 - 2 settings on inside polls and 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 on outside polls. Another thing I do is I purchased 11' rods to run outside and 10' rods for inside. You need to be flexable and copper is great down the shoot it also blows the rule of closer to the boat the deeper the line because there are many boats out there that run 400' and 600' copper off their boards. Copper runs 20' deep per 100' of copper. There are many times the lake turns and you may be fishin 100 down over 500 fow and next day fishin 80 down over 200 fow. Just my $.02.... Shade
  12. I would like to volunteer to serve on the Niagara County 2010 Pro/Am committee, God willing. Question Who, What, Where and When? Howie Nola
  13. Lead Core...never run a dipsy off an OUTRIGGER.... Hands working faster then brain.... Shade
  14. I use my outriggers strickly with laed core, mono and braid. I would never run a dipsy on a rigger. My opinion the fish would have to release both the dipsy and the outrigger releases which seems to me a lot of slack between the pole and dipsy. I found it was a beeter hook just running. Howie
  15. Kings - 46 - 52 Steelies and Bows - 45 - 60 Lakers - 47 - 52 Cohos - 50 - 55 From chart posted from the Oak. Shade
  16. Spike, I agree with Chris, but I would make a set of Planner Boards or In the wanted to buy section there is a set of 15' outriggers for sale for $40. I would run off both riggers with cheaters on each (one rigger at 50' with a cheater about 10' above, next rigger at 60' with cheater 15' above) this will give you starting depths at 60, 50, 45 and 40', copper down the chute, a 5 or 10 color lead core on a planner and 2 wire lines with dipsy's set at 2 1/2. Just your rods according to the conditions a fish patterns and you will do just fine. Shade
  17. It does not have to be in the center. Keep the rod high above the rigger rods so you can move it when your rigger fires. Shade
  18. Griz, Down the chute means, down the center of you boat. Yes you run all 400' plus 2 sweeps across your spool if you want to run down 80'. Copper runs down about 20 - 22' deep per hundred feet. If you want to run down 60' then 200 feet of copper out. You can run copper on Planner or Church, I prefer Planner myself. You can run spoons or spin doctors and flies. Shade
  19. Chinook, Point well taken. All I said is it is difficult for some of us to support Shops outside our home port. I fish out of Olcott and do business with Slippery Sinker and Boat Doctor and I would probably do more if they had a web site to see their on hand stock or place an order. Most of the small shops carry what is popular in their area or what the Charter Captains ask them to stock which is a major plus. I hope every fishermen shouls take the time to visit ans support the local tackle shops. Shade
  20. Gents, I understand the push to help the local businesses but I normally do not come down to the Oak. Most people use the internet for most of their purchases these days and there is a substantial savings even with shipping costs. Another thing is the local shops are not on the internet where you could buy tackle. Some have emails but you do not know what they have available and pricing. I am sure you can call them and probably they can order what you want but there are shops out there that give LOU members some nice discounts. I buy SD's for $9 -$10 and one of the shops there wanted $13. I always try to support local businesses when I am in their towns and I always buy something at the local tackle shops but savings is savings. Shade
  21. Michelle, Let us know how much to purchase and shipping charges when you get them in. Price per package and per case along with cost of the Rhys Davis heads. Thanks, Shade (Howie) PS. Thanks for the room this week end it was very confortable.
  22. There was a similar discussion a few months back on speed/temp units and over the last month I have had the privilage to fish on several different boats all equiped with speed/temp units. Just Sunday in the pro/am the boat i was on was on a SW troll and his ground speed on the GPS read 3.1 and his probe speed read 2.3, difference of .8mph. His GPS is a Raymarine and speed/temp unit is a Pro Troll. We passed another Charter boat on our starboard side and the Captain asked us how fast we where trolling and we told him 2.3 at the ball. Capt. Pete told Capt. Bob he was going faster then 2.3 so Capt. Pete increased his speed until he was along side us and he said his ground speed was 3.7 and 3.2 at the ball. In conclusion I believe what was said on the earlier post. If you are catching fish and your probe says you are at 2.3mph and the water temp is 48.5 degrees then that is the speed you want to maintain. I know have doughts that any unit is anywhere near accurate with trolling speed and it makes me wonder on water temp as well. I personally use the Cannon unit on my 26' boat and the Fishhawk on our 21' and we catch our share of fish on both. So I can say both units do their job. Shade
  23. I said 600 because that is what was said at the weight in by a close friend of his. My point was if you miss the first day but you are in striking disatnce you need to make a decision to go for weight or box. Like Rod said what you do the first day desides day two. All I am getting at is you need to do your homework. I was talking to some pros on the dock and it was interesting that they pre fish to find fish not to catch them and they look for 3 or 4 areas and they check these raeas for 3 days prior to Fridays event. Then they decide where to fish on day 1, thats why I said they do their homework. The only 2 times I fished the Oak was on a charter in 2005. I did not know I was fishing Orleans until late Thursday afternoon so the boat I was on made his decision for Saturday and he landed 2 fish. Friday he landed 8 fish in the same spot. So having more than one area is a good thing and thats what makes the tournament interesting and a learning experience. One thing I learned fishing on a pro team and watching what came on the scale is you Charter guys make the same silly mistakes us Am's do but on a much bigger scale. Shade
  24. Salmon Bound.... we boated most of our fish on disy's 125 out and both corner riggers 50' and 45' down. One on 5 color LC..nothing on middle rigger and nothing on copper. Everything came on spoons. we maintained 2.4 at the ball and a NE..SW troll and we stayed inside 120' to 65'. I saw you guys.... you were a little deeper then us when I saw you.
  25. What happened Saturday and Sunday? Shade
