  1. All that matters is ya had a good time and got away from our 20 degree weather.
  2. How many people are on your boat?
  3. Nice video yankee. We did well on 4:00 and 12:00 settings last year. Someone was running them a 8:00 but I never heard any success stories. Fish Safe, Howie
  4. Some good info as always but more is better. I am not looking for coordinates but a few tips would be helpful. We are not fishing any tournaments this year, just out for the sport. Thanks, Howie
  5. I think I saw this topic earlier, if so can anyone point me to it? If not how about some tips for Spring Browns on west end of Lake. Maybe lure choices, flasher and fly combo's. Any suggestions would be strongly appreciated. We never fished Ontario in early May and we never boated a Brown, because we never targeted them in the past. Thanks, Howie
  6. I spoke to Paul Czarnecki and he could not remember what the entrance fee was for the Open Division but he said it was less than the Am. fee which makes the payout less of course. Paul also said you could enter for one or both days, which would mean seperate prize money each day. I think the start time is the same as the pro/am. If it is not than you would have to seperate the fish prior to the start of the Pro/Am and that could have an effect on your legal limit. I think the committee intends to start both at 5:30 which will leave the Pro's with 1/2 less fihing time if they were to enter. I believe the Open Division was a way to have those who are against Observers to enter a contest. My $.02
  7. Myself along with 2 others will be signing up in Olcott as Observers for the Niagara Pro/Am. We are limiting ourselves to 22' boats or larger. I realize it is a little early, however send me a PM for those who may need us this coming Pro/Am on 6/6 & 6/7 and if there are any Tournament orginizers out there I will be available for the for the Big Boys Tournament on June 8th with the same request of 22' boats or larger. Thanks, Howie Nola
  8. What I read, there is a seperate Open Division which does not require an Observer but it runs on the same 2 days as the Pro-Am correct? What is the entrance fee for the Open Division? Howie
  9. Sorry Ray, I miss read your response. So a double 00 dodger would bring the lead up that much higher? I haven't run anything but spoons on Lead Core and I only ran it once on boards. I usualy run Lead right down the middle and switch it with Copper, run flies and SD's on the steel with dipsy's. Thanks for the info. Howie
  10. Gentlemen, Most of you have fished Ontario a lot longer than we have so we are still learning. For the most part we do well most of the time, with the exception of tournaments. I purchased this book from Presition because I have been told on numerous occasions it had helpful information. I certainly am not blamming anyone for their input, believe me this website has helped us put plenty of fish in the boat and I pay close attention to the responses when I ask a question. I am just confused on the Lead Core and ( I am sure it must be a printing mistake) Copper Line. From what I read and through research Lead Core drops down 4 - 5 feet per color. This the information all over the internet in every freshwater fishing tip area I can find. What has now really put a monkey wrench in this information is what Ray said while fishing in 17' of water. All the information out there is 10 colors with a 50' lead of mono (20' flouro, 20'mono and 20'braided) and mid-range size spoons. I have not seen much trolling Lead with flashers but I have seen options with added weights. We use the system that is listed with tips from the Oak and we do add some lead weight at the knots as instructed with these tips. Getting back to my original issue was the HUGE difference from what Presition Trolling shows as depths and speed vs. what Ray shared when he was in 17' of water. Presition has Lead at down 58' running 2 mph with 50' of mono a spoon and down 32' at 3 mph with the same set-up. Ray was running 10 colors at 2.5 mph with a spoon and never hit bottom at 17'. Thats 15 - 41 foot difference in depths and as Fuccillo would say that is HUUUUUGGAA!!!. Howie
  11. Ray and Legacy, Thanks for the come back. Ray, In this book it shows 18# Lead Core at 2.0 mph back 10 colors with 50' mono leader - depth is 58' and at 3 mph is 31' down. Using 27# at 2.0 mph - depth is 59' and 3.0 mph - 29', with 36# - depth is 57' at 2.0 mph and 32 at 3.0 mph. Once again the 27# Lead Core runs deeper at 2.0 than 36# but the 36# runs deeper at 3.0 mph. This is a huge difference from what you got at 2.5 with 10 colors back. I think I just through $35 out the door. I sent them an email to explane the difference in depths. See how they respond. Howie
  12. I just received a copy of Precision Trolling Edition 2 today and there is a page with a chart on Copper Line. They only tested 45# Test .35 diameter Line at 2.0 and 3.0 mph. Here is what it shows: 2.0 mph Feet Down - 100' - 200' - 300' - 400' Feet Back - 27' - 45' - 48' - 56' 3.0 mph Feet Back - 100' - 200' - 300' - 400' Feet Down - 16' - 34' - 38' - 44' I read this to say that 27' of line runs 100' down and so on. I am sure this must be a misprint unless I just made a fool of myself and I do not understand what I am reading. If anyone has this book see if it is the same if not what am I missing here? Howie
  13. Where did you purchase this Lure? Howie
  14. Happy Birthday Jeff.....
  15. I am also a member of LOTSA, great orginazation. I also found some great deals. Slippery Sinker and A-TOM -MIC had some of the best. I had the pleasure of meeting some fellow fisherman from across the border and even ran into some ex-coworkers from Wellsville. We had a good time, spent some money and know we will see if our investment pays off. Looking forward to once again cleaning my spoons and flies in Lake Ontario and maybe this year we will get some fish attached to them. Howie
  16. Dave, If you have a PC and have access to Excell then you can do what I did. I made a spread sheet and pasted every lure I have in each Caddy. I then printed the sheet in color and attached the sheet to the inside of the Caddy. This way when we use a spoon we can Identify them by the slot it was taken from. The spoons that I could not past from the internet I used my camera and downloaded them to my PC and then pasted them to the sheet. It was a lot of work but it works for us. I did the same thing for the spoons we have in the plastic boxes. I purchased the tubes from A-TOM-MIC and labeled each one with the name and Pic as well as the Spin Doctors. It seems insane to have that amount of lures but ya never know what is hot and what is not. We also keep a log on what we use each time we go out along with GPS cordinates. we fish both Lake erie and ontario and it is hard to memeorize every lure, spoon, worm harness and attractants without some kind of system. Good Luck, Howie
  17. Tim and Yankee, On the Steel. What I am looking for is an idea of the depth when using wire with: 3 1/2 " Dipsy with a Spin Doctor and a Fly or a Spin Doctor and Spoon. Same goes for an E Chip with a Fly or Spoon. I know there are variations so I am looking for some idea to start with. Thanks, Howie
  18. Can you tell me the DEPTH vs. AMOUNT OF LINE: Lead Core - Steel and Copper? Thanks Howie
  19. bigredmf, There is not a fisherman out here that would pay IF the money was being used for Conservation. Since 1980 2.5 Billion dollars of Conservation monies have gone toward road repair. Every year this state drecreases the sale of hunting and fishing licences. The NYState Lottery was suppose to support road repair and education and every year less and less money is given to the schools. If these increases directly go to Conservation then I support it as well but an increase in the licence and a $10 stamp to fish Salmon and Trout. Next we will pay as much to register your boat as it does your car. I lived in Texas for several years and there is NO STATE TAX in Texas. A Hunting licence cost less than it does here and you hunt Archery from Sept until Nov. and Dear from the 1st Saturday in Nov. until the end of January. You also get 5 dear Tags (3 Bucks and 2 Doe) and 6 Turkey tags plus the small game. Their Licence tags have the same look as ours since the early 80's Remember we do not fish or hunt as much as most other states as well. Sorry man but enough is enough. Shade
  20. C'mon guys its the same music with different lyrics. Raise the taxes on Tabacco and Alchohol - few pay for the many Raise County Taxes - few pay for the many Mandatory licence plates on ATV's - few pay for the many Homeowners pay school taxes - few pay for the many Increase hunting and fishing licences - few pay for the many Add a stamp to fish Salmom/Trout - few pay for the many Fellow LOU memebers - if you do not hunt, fish, own an ATV, Own a House, drink or smoke do you care how many taxes increases there are or how much a stamp costs? Call your Senator or Legislator but they look at the vote count and if you are amoung the few forget about it. The only way you can be heard is if we all pull together as one voice through the media or protesting to the Leaders in the conservation department. We need to ask why the increase and where are our dollors going? Make sure if you call your Senator or Legislator you tell them they lost your vote but it needs to be done by numbers from every sportsman, through every fishing and hunting magazine and every sportmans club. If each of us just go to your marina, sportsmans club, Launch sites and tackle shops and have a letter of protest there for everyone can sign and send a copy to your local Legislators, State Senators, Govenor and NYS Conservation dept. we may be heard. My Opinion Shade
  21. Thanks raider44.............
  22. Can someone post a copy of this chart or tell me where purchase a copy? Howie
  23. Ray, I was just trying to identify some spoons my dad had when we first fished Ontario. We stopped fishing Ontario back in 1984 and I started up again 07. I am just trying to identify some of these spoons. Brings back memeories and something to do during this cabin fever stretch.
  24. Thanks Stinger
  25. Thanks Dave
