  1. How much line can I have between the slider and the spin doctor before I loose the action on the fly? Also would I be better off using a smart fish inplace of the SD and at what setting?
  2. Thanks Russty...Thats what I missed...great fisherman on a great site.
  3. Feels good to be back. The hardrive on my PC blew and i just got her back today. Looks like we finished 4th in the Orleans derby and have our work cut out for us in the LOC. Some big haugs being caught I see. We baught a bigger rig and it may be in the water by the week end. You can not miss her. She is 25 feet long and bright yellow, named Banana's. Looking forward in reading reports and stories. Good Luck and fish safe. Howie

  7. Walteye, I am going to Erie the last week of July. How about a report on how you make out next week. Post it on LOU or go to my PM.
  8. There are several ways to run Spin Doctors. 1) Off Rigger - attach spin doc to your line, if your running a fly keep it 18 - 24" behind the spin doc, if you running a spoon 24 - 30" behind. Place the spin doctor 10 - 15" back of the ball and drop you rigger at your chosen depth. I've gone as far back as 20' with good results. 2) Run off dipsy. Run a 4 -6' leader from dipsy to the spin doctor and send the dipsy back to your desired depth. 3) Run straight off lead core or copper back to your desired depth without a dipsy. Run troll speeds between 2.0 and 3.0. Good colors are greens, silver, chrome and mount. dew and i am sure some guys have other favorites.
  9. Chris, Sorry to disagree Chris but wire 220 back with a 41/8" dipsy set at 2.5 running 2.2 - 2.4 you will be down between 95 - 100'. I did a lot of experiments with dipsys and both lead and steel line in Olcott. Lead runs a little deeper, SD/spoons run a little deeper also. I agree currents will have some effect but I am confident in my research. I bought the book and it says 50% plus 5 - 10% and they are right. Which means 200 back is 100 minus 5 - 10% is 90 - 95. I agree copper is great but 500 - 600 back plus what the fish takes is a lot of realling especially with the traffic on the water. Now if it cought mature Kings well worth the work but for yearlings that ya through back, not. To each there own. Everyone has there opinion and there own style. I prefer steel but I have 2 rods on copper, one with 450' of 45lb and the other with 600' and I give my son the honors. Howie
  10. Wire, wire, wire with dypsys and a 10 1/2 poles. With wire the downside is the weight of the dipsy but i think wire is more versitile. You can run wire 120 back and be about 50 down, 180 back and be 80 down or 200 back and be 90 down. You need 550 feet of copper to get down 100' but only 220 feet of wire for 100 down. Just my opinion.
  11. I like the cannon just because of the depth fiture. It tells you exactly how deep your rigger is. I have 2 units, a ray jeff and cannon. Both are good units and are within a tenth of a mile on the speed but like i said the cannon tells me how deep i really am with my rigger.
  12. Gillt, Are you going to www.lakeontarioproam.net ? I have no mproblem logging in.
  13. Lost a good fish, dipsy, spin doc and fly today. Running 200' back over 180. Got a screamer, ran out another 100 go in about 50, ran out again and snap. Clean break.
  14. Most of these guys run spin doctors, smart fish and e-chips. I am sure there are a few boats running some flashers but not many. Most of your fish will be caught on spin doctors and flies. I use all three myself and the majority of my fish are on spin doctors. Best colors for me this year have been chrome, mountain dew, green/chrome and NBK. good luck
  15. Stinger, You have a PM
  16. That be it Ballz, Thanks
  17. bump
  18. Does anyone recall a post on this web site showing some rails made of wood which they mounted their riggers. Having a brain fart today and I can not remember the topic. Help please.
  19. Gonefishin.....you have a PM
  20. Most of these guys run spin docs on steel and now on copper, spoons on riggers and leadcore. I like running echips and spin docs on riggers that are down 70-120' but you can try anything you want. Once again do not count out Smart Fish. Yankee Troller is big on these and they work well. Good Luck see ya in the water Howie - Get-R-Done - slip A10 stop by sometime. I will be back in Olcott next week.
  21. Spin Doctors - Crush Glow - Mtn Dew Flies - A-tom-Mik - Hammer, Green Krinkle, Little Boy Blue, Mtn dew You also may want to look at smart fish - A-Tom-Mik has them I am sure everyone has their favorites but these are some I got off this site and they produced.
  22. Kevin, Do you have a slip in Olcott or just launching. Most LOU guys are on 68. Listen to these guys and get some SS Marlin, run with dipsy, spin doc and flies ( hammer, green krinkle). With steel your depth is about 50% minus 10%. If you are back 100 feet your down about 45 feet. good luck, Howie
  23. I will be the other idiot.
