  1. You are on the right site. These guys have a lot of experience on Ontario and are always willing to help. My advise is get yourself a good VHF radio. Most LOU members are on 68 but each time ya get ready to go out post a message and ask whos fishing where you are. They will talk to you and help if you need it. Keep you eyes on the weather. There are a lot of web sites to keep you updated on water conditions. Good luck and fish safe.
  2. Maniac, Thanks...I got one earlier today at Gander Mtn. I see what it is now, we use them just did not know what it was called. Just curious how do you hook up your release?
  3. Its called a clincher?....you can tell my intelegence......where do I get one? I could not imagine what I was doing wrong.....dahhhhhh
  4. If you guys here anything post it please.......good luck Ray.......our prayers are with you and your family. Howie
  5. Maniac, What kind of release is that and where did you purchase it. Also how is the cable run and tied to it? Looks like it goes around the nut and bolt. Last question, what stops the release from moving up the cable.
  6. I see a lot of you guys run leaders off your main lines to spoons. My question is what is the advantage? I can see running leaders off steel, copper, dipsys, etc. I use all clear line with swivals and attach my lures directly to main line.
  7. The committee can change to any length and it will not matter. If you guys fished Thursday and Friday you did not have to go very deep to catch 14 - 18lb fish. The tournaments on Friday was won by at 26lb and on the 3 fish 50lbs was low and 60 was high. In May and early June you have to much weather differences mostly high North East and East winds. Not good winds for fishing. By the end of June to early July the weather is more cosistant with more warmer westerly winds. The winds between Thursday and Friday compared to Saturday and Sunday was the difference. Like I said before, this tournament needs to be later in June or early July. Look at the difference in fish size and weights in Oswego compared to Niagara and Orleans.
  8. My position was to change our presentation before we change colors. I believe from what I read from reports that everyone runs different lures but its how they present them makes all the difference. Speeds and leader length seems to be a key. I will change a couple of poles from spoons to SD/Fly combos or change a steel rod with leadcore but I like to keep my goto baits on.
  9. We had this discussion this week end so i just want to hear your thoughts. How often do you change your lures or do you stick with what you start with? My theary is to stick with my favorite lures and maybe change one or two poles during the run. Your thoughts.................... Howie
  10. Like I said I should mind my own business. The talk was not the amount of fish but the size and the travel vs. gas cost and you will probably hear more on this subject in the future. This was just some suggeations from Olcott.
  11. Without getting crtisized, there was a lot of talk in Olcott about the size of fish being cought. Here is my $.02. I asked this question on the another post earlier. The dates for this years pro/am was the first week end in June and 2nd week end in June. Then it goes all the way until the middle of July. Why not run the Niagara Pro/Am more toward the middle of June and the Orleans the end of June? With the gas prices and weather conditions it seems to me you would not have to travel to the Bar to get your fish and you would have a better chance of larger fish. Also the weather, no guarantees, should be better then what we get in May which would allow the smaller AM boats to get into deeper water. This just my thoughts from what I heard this week end.
  12. Why not run the pro/am later, like maybe August through September when the fish are larger?

  20. Fish Stix, I am in A10 and looked for ya today. We went east to stacks. Boats were bottled necked in 90 fow and 200 fow. We stayed in 100 - 150 and went 8 of 10 with an 18lb laker. All kings were small biggest about 14lbs nothing to brag about. I tried calling ya on 68 but radios were silent for the most part. Not a bad day weather wise for fishin. Looka like fisherman had a good day saw a lot of coolers lined up at cleaning station. Weather permitting gonna try again Monday.
  21. Olcott, Wilson. Some nice campgrounds close by.
  22. I will be out of Olcott Saturday and Monday. Howie
  23. Ray, Is the roast still on for the 24th? What site is it again and what should we bring?
  24. The way I read it is....Party is for all Pro/Am participants, the $500 for the largest fish on Saturday is also for all participants but the rest of the prize money is only for those who are in Wilson. Correct?
