To all my fellow anglers. I am not writing this because i want your pitty or your help. I am writng this because of what I have been reading all across this internet when anglers talk to anglers about tips, technigues, equipment and anyother subject matter they can think of. All over the internet I read pros and cons on charters, how fisherman fail to give out trade secrets, costs of insurance, boat slips, it goes on and on.
TREASURE THE MOMENT ANGLERS AND SPORTSMAN. I just turned 57 this year and I have been hunting, fishing, trap shooting and camping for 45 years. I started with my dad and uncles and now its my son, nephews and brothers. In August 6,2007 it all changed for me because of a freak accident. We were fishing out by the stacks in Ontario and we just pulled in our gear and started heading back to Olcott. I was driving the boat and rubbing about 15mph. There were about 6 other boats heading in at the same time. I hit a wake and the pedistol on my seat collapsed and jarred me. You can say what ever you want on my driving skills but i can assure you I did it right. I did not know of any injury until that night when I woke fromm a sound sleep with the most hostile of pain in the center of my back.To make a long story short the Nero Sugeon found 2 herniated disks in the thorasic part of my back. I had to have emergency sergery because these disks were rubbing against my spinal cord. Prior to the surgery I began to loose the feeling in my legs. The surgery could not fix the leg problem but it did prevent me from being parellized. I had no insurance on my boat to cover this and I have been deemed totally disabled. Had this happened while i was on a charter or someone elses boat I would have been forced by my medical insurance to take legal action. I guess my point is charish what you have but protect it as well especially your family and friends. My life has changed dramatically since this accident. I can not hunt, camp or trap shoot and until I get into the boat for the first time this year and do not know if I can fish. I am going from a job were I was making $78K a year to where Iam still fightimg Social security and my 401K for $36K a year. I am asking all anglers help each other out if you can and lets have some fun because YOU NEVER KNOW.
Dick,
It looks like the one on top. I am getting my boat on April 1st from storage and the first thing I am doing is installing the new down riggers and the Speed Temp Monitor. I bought this monitor because of the features it has and the one I have now has a transducer. The fun of fishing is the challenge of lure choice, presentation and the right equipment. The ****ty part is to have equipment that does not work.
Thanks for the help. Maybe Someday I can return the favor.
Howie
I just purchased 2 new Scotties and a Cannon Speed and Temp Monitor. The Cannon has a spring antenna. Am i going to have problems with this set up? If so any suggestions or do I need this Moor hook up?
I do not have either mounted yet, boat is still in storage.
Rod,
Count on Team Git-R-Done to be at your Pig Roast. We use to camp at 4 mile back in the 80's before we seasoned at Barker. Then I was sent to Texas for 8 years. Came back in 2000 and my son decided to get back into Ontario fishing in 03. This year we decided to get a season slip in Olcott. You must launch out Wilson or Niagara State park.
Looking forward in meeting your team and other fishermen.
Thanks for the invite,
Howie Nola (Shade) Get-R-Done
A-TOM-MIK sells plastic cylanders for $.59 each. They are 1 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches long. They work great. Just buy a $2.00 plastic container from a dollor store and put the tubes inside.
Someone was running $50 a boat fro amatures last year. But hay who going to run it. Count my team, Git-R-Done. Lets talk about this poker game. Where and when? I have a slip this year in Olcott. Come see me for poker and pools.
I am looking for observers for the Niagara Pro/AM and the Orleans Pro/AM.
If anyone is interested please contact me at:
h_nola@yahoo.com
Thanks and have a quality day
I agree with big easy. There are not nearly enough slips or launches to have many more tournaments in Ontario. To get a slip you name can be on a waiting list for years. There are not areas where you can keep your boat on a trailor and launch it when you come down here.
If someone really wanted to make some mmoney open a marina between Wilson and the Oak.
I am looking for some input on thye Pro/Am. I see in the rules that each team must have 1 or 2 observers. Can I get observers from the area and if so how do I go about getting information to hire 1 or 2. Is there a contact person or a place you can sign up to get these observers. Everyone I know wants to fish.
I would like to know if there is a chart or formula that tells me how deep my line is when using:
30#Lead Core, 30# SS wire, 30# Braided or 30# Mono with Dipsy settings at 1,1.5,2,2.5 or 3.
The chart that comes with a dipsy is based on 20# Mono line.
Does anybody know?
My Boat is called - Git-R-Done. I am still trying to rent a slip in either Olcott or at the Oak. We primarilly launch out of Olcott. Just like to say hello and hope everyone has a great year.
