I am all for an AM event. A couple of suggestions may need a little messaging to get clubs and sponsors involved. Ray is correct..we need to think outside the box if we want a successful event. I agree Rod with you outside the fact of keeping pro teams out. It is being done with the pro/am by saying if you are a charter captain or have a captains license you could not enter in the am division. Rules have to be made by the fishermen and agreed to by the participants. You will never satify all but keeping the event on an even keel will draw teams. Who is the point guy that is going to run to get this off the ground? I would like to see Ray and Rod as part of this committee. Shade

Slow, There is a variety of ways to run Lead Core but a typical set up is to use a real you feel comfotable with. I run 600' of braid backing, then a 10 color Lead Core, attach 50' of Flurocarbine leader. I run my lead most of the time down the shoot and I use flasher fly, flasher spoon or just a spoon and after the lead hit the water I run an extra 50 feet of backing. This will put the lead core about 400' behind the boat and about 45 - 50 down. Another way is to run it off your boards. The reel does not have to have a counter obviously and the Rod, mine anyway, has a twilly tip to better protect the shield on the lead line. Another trick some guys use and I use is to have a mix of sinkers from 1 oz. to 4 oz and add a clip or rubberband to the weight. Attach the weight on the line where the lead is tied to the leader. As you reel in the line and get to the weight just unclip it or pull and break the rubberband, this will get your lead down an additional 4 - 15'. Good luck, Shade

First off ya need to either call or visit Newfane Town Clerk and you will probably go on a waiting list. Next you want to see in person Dawn Wilson at the Marina she runs the show. None of the docks in Olcott are in good shape although Dawn will have maintenance fix up what ya need. Shade

New Format Changes for 2012 Pro-Am Tournaments
Shade replied to BlueEye's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Just couple of things before I shut up. I think it was Legend who said we still need to recognize the pro teams from the ams and I agree. Maybe with red flags and blue flags and something after the team name to identify where each finishes in each catagory. One more thing. It was also stated here about shotgun starts. There has to be seperate times to leave the docks if fo any reason safety. You big boats with the 454 turbo charged engines kick our buts when ya leave and talking about 5-6' foot swells. Even my boat that only has speed of 20-25 was a rocken at Wilson. I am not talking a big lead but a few minutes to get some seperation. Think about it on a safety value. Shade -
New Format Changes for 2012 Pro-Am Tournaments

Some good threads voicing opinions. First off I take my hate off to the committee that put this together. As an Amature there are some changes we want to see that we believe will level the field a bit but it is time to take all the advise and learning that the members of this site has provided and go for it. Yes the big boys have better equipment, bigger boats, a lot more experience but it is time to cut the apron strings and get with your team and agree to a program that you all agree on. Make sure everyone has a responsibility. You need to make sure your hooks are sharp, poles and reals are in working order, you electronics are functioning and whom ever is driving the rig is in coinstant communication with the team. We can not afford to drop a fish but lets make sure as a team you do the one most important thing of all......HAVE FUN.... Personnaly I have to make a decision do to my financial status with a fixed income. I am entered in the WIT for $1000 and 3 - 4 weeks later a possible $650 entry to the new Pro/Am not including we, like most who dock there boats have dockage fees due, gas costs and some minor boat repairs duen this season. My team going to wait and see how this unfolds after all the ballots are casts on some loose ends and the prize stuctures are in place. A plee to all my Amature competitors lets not throw in the towel just yet. Shade -
New Format Changes for 2012 Pro-Am Tournaments
Shade replied to BlueEye's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Hookup -- no you are in all invents Unsub - no changes to Open Division All of us AM's need to get our email addresses to Capt. Vince or Capt. Bob C. and vote to keep the entry fee down to $650 and have the Pros to have a Calcutta to make up their prize fund. This new format throws out going out and putting a box of nine or 12 fish out the door. This event becomes a stratagy event where you either fish for a box or fish for weight. If we do not want to participate help the guys that do and cast your vote. Remember we still have the OPEN Event and we could request a change in entry to inhance the prize fund. I believe righjt now it is $115 for each day. We still can have the option to fish one day or both days. There still is the option to fish out of any port at anytime from east end to west end and enter any of the four OPEN events as long as you weigh in by 12:30 PM. Time is running out and there is a lot of work to get the new structure for the pro/am in order so do not try to reconfigure the OPEN event but maybe the entries can increase to turn it into a fullfilling and fun time. New Format Changes for 2012 Pro-Am Tournaments
Shade replied to BlueEye's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
There are a couple of issues that will be determined via a vote. To get a copy of the ballot you may want to get your name, phone number and email address to either Capt Vince or Capt. Bob C. Here is what was discussed as far as a new format. There will be one division with an entry fee(to be voted on by the fishermen). On day1(Saturday) you will be fishing for a total of 12 fish (first legal 12 fish). Before you weigh in you will tag your best 5 or 6 (determined by ballot), and enter those in the short box part of the turnament. Then you will add the other fish you have and enter in the big box part of the turnament. If you land in the top ten of either or both boxes you are guaranteed a check. Day 2 starts the same senario but a new day. Once again your objective is to box 12 fish and once again you tagh yopur best 6 and enter them in the short box and once aagain you add the rest of your box and enter them in the big box and once again if you end up in the top ten of one or both boxes you are guaranteed a check, however on day 2 there will also be a cash priizes for the day 1 and day 2 total weight and again it pays the top ten in each catagory. Even if you did not finish in the top ten on day one you still take that total and add it to day 2. That makes 6 catagories, or 60 places) where you can win cash and prizes . There is also something about cups for each county event and a grand trophy which someone else will have to explane. If you still do not want to enter in this event the OPEN Event is still an option. The ballot which I told you is for 3 or 4 catagories: Entry Fee - vote for $650 or $850 Number of Poles - either 8 or 9 per boat max Size of small box - either 5 or 6 fish max. Start Time on the west end - either 5:30 or 6:00 am If I said something wrong I appologize, also for my mispelled words Shade -

I see the entry fee will surpass $550 pro entry fee as it stands.....Tough when your on a fixed income to fish back to back week-ends in the Pro/Am and i am forced to pay for cups that i can not compete in. Shade -
Tournament Observer training class

Good stuff. Would not be a bad idea if team captains would attend at least once. Especially teams that are competing for the first time. Shade -

Are there plans for further training classes before each event. I think it would be more benificial if ya waited until everyone who is entered has an observer. Just a thought. Shade -
