  1. This has nothing to do with someone questioning safety and when or when not to go out and fish in the waves. The poster above simply pointed out incorrect information on calculating wave height. Why all the "read between the lines" sarcasm I so often see in certain posts? Thanks, Chris
  2. As always - thanks for sharing your great reports. Beautiful kings there Captain. Good luck and stay safe, Chris
  3. Smallboat is absolutely correct. The NOAA buoys measure trough to crest and somehow use a calculation to average the waves over a period of time. The post above aboat doubling from a "0" starting point is not correct. - Chris
  4. As weird as it sounds - Anthony is 100% correct. The bite was on fire, then these two pirate boats passed us by and it slowed immediately, only to be followed by spontaneous tangles and phantom knock offs like a pirate curse. Then as soon as the boats were gone west into the misty fog, the bite instantly turned on again.......ahoy mateys, it was the curse of the black pearl....arrrrrrrrr
  5. Here's another video of some of the action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF7JoIIfDuw&feature=youtu.be Hello friends - my great pal Anthony and I fished this morning for one last chance at "up-sizing" our current LOC fish and we thought that our best chance would be fishing for lake trout. We hit the water after the storms blew through and quite surprisingly, the lake was calm with only a slight breeze out of the Southwest. We fished two riggers scratching bottom with cowbells, two wire divers and a ten color core and a 400' copper. The classic rigger cowbell set-up (Hammerhead chartreuse and lake killer bells and yellow spin n glows) produced non-stop action The runner up MVP was also the 400' copper pulling an NK 42 second spoon which fired at least 6-7 times. We caught 24 lakers and one brown (on the ten color pulling a Bob Fuller KOS) The wire divers did not fire once, despite trying various flasher/fly combos, spoons and even cut bait. We had 4 or 5 doubles and it was steady action until the strong winds out of the NW came out of nowhere and churned things up. BTW - someone had posted earlier about fishing Lake Ontario from a canoe, and I would take a long hard look at a day like today which went from calm to 2-3' seas in about ten minutes. It was another stellar day on the water. We will give the lakers a rest since the Summer LOC is done, and focus on silver fish from here on out. Good luck to all, Chris
  6. WTG Brian - congrats on your finish. - Chris
  7. Awesome stuff good buddy One more try tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!! Chris
  8. Here's another video of our action last weekend. Good to all the Sandy Shootout folks this weekend! Chris
  9. Agree 100%. Got mine yesterday and they look great at a good price
  10. I record in 720/30 mode and it is fine. I run it continuosly during a 5-6 hr trip and need three batteries to get me through the trip. I use a class 10 64gb card for my Hero-2 without any problems. I download all footage using the free Go-Pro Cineform program. You will need to play with it - it takes time to edit footage (typically an hour or so for each of my videos to go through all the clips) and to add titles, text and music. The conversion with the Cineform program takes about 15-30 minutes and to upload to Youtube it can take 30-60 minutes. Good luck, Chris
  11. WTG Mad Perry! Nothing like a trip when it's just you, the tranquility of the lake, and the fish. Personally, I love the challenge of a solo double, especially when you're talking and swearing to yourself the whole time. Thanks for sharing your awesome report, Chris
  12. Why don't you take a piece of mono and rub it back and forth on the diver underwater - are you actually able to slice through the plastic? That almost seems impossible to do in the water with mono..... If you confirm that it can be done with very little effort, then somehow the diver is slipping despite being engaged. It just sounds impossible to do when fighting a fish as the bead would prevent it from happening
  13. Brokeoff, Considering you have it rigged properly (although I have no idea how the front of the diver near the control arm pivot point is also worn), you are supposed to use a bead or two in front of your swivel before your terminal end to the lure. This is similar to what Tom said above. Then, when the diver slides down the line, it will bump into the bead and swivel and clear the rim of the diver. Also, are you rotating the surgical tubing 180 degrees when using braid to prevent slippage? Can you do me a favor, post a picture with it rigged up on a piece of line so I can see how you have it rigged? Thanks, Chris
  14. Yes sir - and surprisingly the kings were hitting at the slow speed. No spoons at that speed, just FF and the bells. Subtroll - 1.8 Chris
  15. Awesome story Pete - great narrative!! - Chris
  16. Thanks for the report - it looked like everyone was in closer by mid to late morning as the deep boats came back and the very shallow boats went deeper to that 110-150 fow area east and west, and it looked like everyone we passed that was landing fish was running cowbells at a snail's pace troll. Sorry to hear that the offshore bite was slower. It was extremely slow for us early on as well, until the bite turned on around 9 AM. Good luck at the shootout - thanks for sharing, Chris
  17. Sorry it's a little late but here's another vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQyQI6hKGLc&feature=youtu.be I fished with my great pal Anthony today and we had an extremely slow start with an 0 for 3 slump from sun up until 9 AM and we were getting a little nervous that it wasn't going to be a good day. Everything changed until we put down the cowbells and started dragging bottom for lake trout (with what looked like about a dozen other boats doing the same) east of the Bay. It was constant action with fish landed on 400' copper pulling a flasher/fly, both wire divers and of course the cowbells. We lost a very, very big fish on the 400' copper after the braid broke after it got tangled in the release. The cowbells produced great lake action as well and we salvaged the day going 10 for 15. The highlight of the day was a 20# king on the wire when we were trolling at a snail's pace for lake trout, along with another wire rip shortly thereafter which was also a stout king that I lost after ten minutes. Sounds like we found a school (it was shortly after a bait pod) or they wanted it slower. The following all took fish: Hammerhead cowbells/ chartreuse spin n glow Kelly green SD/ green glow fly Wonderbread SD/ wonderbread fly White green dot SD/ Hammer fly Meat did not take any fish today Spoon bite was lite with a few knock offs only Interestingly, when I cleaned the king today, the stomach was loaded with 8 whole alewives!! What an eating machine these beast are. Another great day with Anthony with calm seas and great action in the last 2 hours and ALL fish came in less than 130 fow. - Chris
  18. Awesome report Rick - thanks so much for all your great reports. To the guys not having luck with bigger flashers and meat - I run mine exclusively with 11" flashers or 10" spin Dr's and they do great. Whenever meat goes cold for me, it's almost always that the treble hook is messing with the strip and tearing it up or more commonly I do not have the proper roll and I have to re-tune the curve on the bait head. I would start by adjusting the curve on the head before abandoning the bigger flashers. Good luck to all, Chris
  19. When you registered on-line you will have a number on the printed receipt ticket that is your LOC number. You do not get anything in the mail anymore. When you weigh a fish and it places in the top 20, you will need that number (and your buddies will also need theirs as one witness) to give to the weighmaster at the tackle shop. My buddy Anthony showed the weighmaster a picture of his ticket on his cell phone and I just keep the printed receipt in my wallet. Technically, if you don't have the number, I think Dave Chilson and his LOC team can look it up but I'm sure he doesn't want to be doing that too often. Good luck, Chris
  20. Gentlemen, Thank you all for the kind words. We are so blessed to have such a great forum to be able to share our great fishing experiences with each other. I am flattered by such great comments from the best trolling fishermen/women in the world and hands down the best fishing site around. You have all made my day. Good luck to all and be safe out there, Chris
  21. No, no, no!! That would be a navigational hazard. Never use a red or green light on your boat at night except your nav lights. Just trying to keep everyone safe. - Chris
  22. We started out with the whole family with the goal to catch fish for my entire family. However, my oldest daughter Olivia was getting a little seasick so we had to turn back to port to drop her and Mom off. My youngest daughter Elizabeth still wanted to go out with Dad, so we motored out to our favorite spot just north of I-Bay, dropped the cowbells and managed 6 beautiful lake trout on 8 hits. Today was my most special memory on the water to date, as it brought me back to my childhood and the memories of trolling with MY dad. I can remember all the tangles, all the "false hits" that my dad would tell me were the fish testing us even though they were probably nothing more than our cheesy releases/rubberbands simply not holding, but I will never forget my first one with him and how special it will always be. Fast forward 34 years and now I'm the dad, fishing the same water with my kids.......and man o' man how time flies. Today was not about analyzing the fish-finder, the speed, the temp, finding the perfect baits or the perfect spot (well maybe not exactly on the perfect spot), but instead it was a day to focus on Ellie and cherishing her first fish trolling. I want to share nothing more with you all, than my video of our special day. You know I always give details on depth, on lures, on location, etc. but today I just want to focus on the great memories I shared with my youngest daughter. You guys all know what I use, my typical lake trout depth and my speed anyway....lol. To all the mothers/fathers/grandparents/aunts/uncles and friends - make sure you take a kid fishing anytime you can. They will not be perfect, they may break something or make a mess on the boat. They may complain and ask "can we go now?" but I can promise you one thing that it will make you a better person for sharing our great outdoors with God's special gift - our children. Cheers to you all - good luck on the water, Chris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo1LrQSV-8U&feature=youtu.be
  23. Vince - your post is the best I have ever read on this site. Awesome, Chris Momot
