  1. Great job gentlemen, My brother and I saw the fish at Mitchell's when we were also weighing our two fish and it was a real beauty! Congrats on your LOC placement. Good luck and be safe on the water, - Chris
  2. Jason, Thanks VERY MUCH for taking our picture at Mitchell's - it was great meeting you and your crew. You guys had a beast of a fish and congrats on your leaderboard placement today on that 28+ pounder! I hope my pics of you guys turned out OK and perhaps you'll share your story and a pic of your fish as well. Stay in touch and be safe on the water, - Chris
  3. I run two dual keel boards and run one 400' copper on one and a 600' on the other. I have the rope 9" to the front and 14" to the back. I tie an overhand knot with a loop to connect the tow rope. The Big Jon instructions on the dual keel install also recommends drilling two other holes for the tow rope 1" below the two existing so the connector rope on the board runs closer to the surface of the water. I started running these this year and they track pretty good but I have to run my copper releases very close to the boards to make them run the best, otherwise it seems like the weight of the copper pulls on the tow rope too much and my copper rods "jump" from cutting into the waves. FWIW I put dual "full keels" on the board and put it in my pool and it sunk. Good luck, - Chris
  4. Hey Ray - thanks for thinking of me man! Yes everything healed up nicely and I'm trying to make up for lost time last year....lol. Later bud, - Chris
  5. Fishing Report Chris / Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Independence Day 2012 Time on Water: 6AM til 8AM Weather/Temp: sunny, pushing 80 Wind Speed/Direction: SW 10-15 Waves: 1' Surface Temp: lower 70's Location: I-Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: laker, steelhead and three kings Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.8-3.0 sog Down Speed: 2.5 Subtroll Boat Depth: 150-180 fow Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Well what more can I say - this year continues to be the best year I have ever experienced on any body of water I have fished. We only fished for two hours b/c we thought we had a possible derby fish and we had to motor back in around 8 AM. We ran 6 rods, but most of the time we only had 4 rods in the water b/c of constant action from start to finish. Our two highlights were twin 25 # kings - which is the personal "two fish best" for my boat. We had good temp (44-48 degree water) with 125' of cable out on my probe rigger and we fished two wires (275' and 300'), two riggers (115', 125') and two coppers (400' and 600'). The day started off with a nice 7-8 lb. steelhead on our port rigger 115' of cable out, pulling a DW Kelly green SD/ AtomMik green crinkle fly. It put up a great fight, but could not be revived and had to hit the cooler. Our next fish was a smaller king on the 400' Copper pulling a 42 sec SD/42 sec ATomMik fly. Fish was released unharmed but we had another hit on the same rig, but unfortunately we lost the whole setup to a break-off at the knot. Then we had a beauty of a king, absolutely destroy our wire out 275' pulling a white/green dot SD/ Hammer Fly. It ripped out to 500' on the counter but we settled things down and landed it. We thought it was pushing 27-28#. but it barely touched 25# at Mitchell's. A 5-6# laker was next on 600' copper pulling a Gator SD/ATomMik mirage fly. After we started to pull rods, our starboard rigger got crushed - a 42 sec NK spoon - with 125' of cable out and the king was off to the races and peeled off 500' of additional mono. We landed that one as well, which interestingly was also 25# at Mitchell's. I wished we could have fished longer b/c the lake is on fire right now. FWIW the one king had an enormous lamprey on it - pushing 12" easy. Can't wait to get back out Saturday for more king action....... Good luck to all, - Chris
  6. I ran them a couple of weeks ago as a free slider and caught one fish. Haven''t run them since b/c the slider bite for me has slowed down substantially. Good luck on the water, - Chris
  7. Awesome report and pics Rick! Man, you have so much room in the back of your boat - it looks like you could put a couch, big screen, and a coffee table back there. Be safe on the water and as always thanks for sharing your great info, - Chris

Action was good the first hour, then it slowed for an hour buit it picked up steady again around 9 AM and I wished we could have stayed out longer. We found a nice school of steelhead east of I-Bay - nice fish that were consistently 8- 9.5 lbs. For us, the bite was deep - we had 50 degree water with 90' of cable out on my downrigger and most marks were 100-120'. We fished two riggers - 125' and 135' of cable out, two wires 275' to 350', two coppers - a 400' and a 600'. Fish hit everything today except meat - I still haven't had a hit on whole bait or cut bait this year. Good action today for us - our "weird" highlight was a nice brown in 175' fow caught on the 600' copper - he must of been one hungry dude. Best troll for us was east with the waves although when we hit the steelhead, west was just as good. We also had one heckuva tangle with the 400', 600' copper and a little wire Dipsy for good measure..... Lures: Stingray size "Seasick" - silver/blue/green mag spoon 275' wire took a few nice steelhead Get r'dun - 135' rigger Mag gator spoon - 125' rigger crushed a few nice kings (lost a big one) 42 sec. Fishing Report Chris / Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6/23/12 Time on Water: 6 - 10:30 AM Weather/Temp: 70's Wind Speed/Direction: W/NW 10-15 knots Waves: 2-3' Surface Temp: 68-70 Location: I-Bay to Ginna LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: many Total Boated: 22 Species Breakdown: laker, steelhead, chinook Hot Lure: see below Trolling Speed: 2.6-3.7 sog Down Speed: consistently 2.5 Subtroll Boat Depth: 150-200 Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished today with my good pal Anthony (PikeHunter) and my brother Kev and we had one of my best days ever on the water. Headed out early to find 1-2 footers building later in the morning to 2-3'. Dropped our first two rods and we knew it was going to be a good day when we had a fish on 5 minutes in. Non stop action the entire morning for us - we wound up trolling the furthest east I've ever fished from I-Bay, almost to Ginna. The best depth seemed to be around 180' and we hit a very nice pocket of steelhead to keep us busy the first few hours. After that it was king city, with many hits including 5 fish around 15-17#. For us the name of the game was speed, speed, speed. If we could keep the Subtroll at 2.5, we had hits. The best trolling direction was actually going east with the waves. We wound up keeping seven fish as it seemed like they were really beat after wire and copper battles. We only fished five rods - two divers, one 600' copper, and two riggers but it was all we could handle rigging in the waves with all the action as we had many double-ups. The following all caught fish: 42 second NK rigger 115' of cable out NBK slider on the 85' rigger DW SS Gator 85' rigger - very hot 275' wire Green dot Spinny/ A-Tom-Mik treen Hammer Fly 250' wire Green Nuclear Spinny/ A-Tom-Mik 42 sec. Fly 275' wire 42 sec Spinny/42 sec Fly 600' Copper Live wire Spinny/ A-Tom-Mik mirage fly - very hot We didn't have to change much today except for changing out whole alewives for a SD/Fly Once again, I am so thankful for this incredible fishery and for a great day on the water with Anthony and Kev - as always good luck to all, Chris
  11. How would this work? 1.) If you add 6 extra feet of leader, how do you boat a fish easily when you now have 15+ feet of line post-Dipsy?? 2.) Wouldn't it be dangerous for a break off by tying a leader directly to a treble hook (the barbs on some of my owner hooks are razor sharp)? 3.) How does having an "in-line" spoon add anything to the presentation other than act as a swivel? Thanks for explaining this to me, - Chris
  12. Started right off the bat 150 fow and worked out to 200' with an extremely small king (I mean like 1/2 pound small) a laker and a steelhead. We worked back in to 170' or so and had better action until nothing between 9 AM and 10 AM, and then about four fish in the final 1/2 hour. We had a huge fish hit our rigger at 65', over 200 fow and it peeled 200' of line and we lost it. It surfaced instantly and we saw quite a bit of the fish and it looked huge. Biggest fish hitting the deck was about 15-16#. All fished released except three. Good steady action between 6 AM and 9 AM with a fish about every 20 minutes. Saw one boat come in from off-shore, but most folks were working the 150-250' area. The following caught fish: NK glow frog 65' rigger DW SS glow frog free slider 95' rigger NBK 65' rigger DW SS watermellon 65' rigger DW mixed veggie free slider 65' rigger Wire divers: 175', 225', 250' : green nuclear SD/42 sec. fly, 42 sec flasher/fly; white green dot SD/ sweet pea fly; white green dot SD/ glow green fly 600' copper : gator SD/ mirage fly; lost this set-up to a tree snag and then finished off with Livewire SD/ mirage fly For the first time in a few years I did NOT catch something on a 42 second spoon...............and yes my fly is down in the pic....... Good luck to all in the LOC, - Chris
  13. Great story indeed! I love fishing solo - there's no pressure and it's just you and the fish. Good luck this week, - Chris
  14. bfarrow, I was coming in closer to 10, but I passed along some depth information to a gentleman in the I-Bay channel. I have a yellow Trophy hardtop, but it sounds like it was me you spoke with. Always glad to help - I sent you a PM, Good luck, - Chris
  15. Fished with a full crew on Saturday only to find rain and threatening weather so we stayed near shore and it was terrible. Managed only two hits - steelhead on a ruby red spoon flatlined behind 5/8 ounce keel weight, and a brown on 20' rigger. I wanted so badly to head deeper but the weather seemed ominous. By the looks of Bob's Boy's reports out of Sodus, we made the mistake of staying close. I lost sleep on it b/c I was so bothered by not going out deeper, so I decided to go back out and fish solo this morning for a few hours and I'm glad I did. I could not keep three rods in the water - I ran 600' copper, one 80' rigger cheated, and wire out 225' and everything caught fish the moment I hit the water. I fished 150' to 210' and all depths were productive. Lures: NK 42 sec 80' rigger, dirty white boy free slider - both lures on fire Gator Spinny/ Mirage Fly on the copper 600' was on fire - everytime it was out it caught something within 15-20 minutes White/green dot SD/ Hammer Fly on wire 225' #3 It was one of those rare days where I did not - and really could not - have to switch lures. I pulled it around 10 or so b/c my arms were literally buring from the wire and copper and I did not want to risk injuring any more fish. All fish were released but one that I had to go back and re-net after he floated. I estimate I landed around 12-15 fish today. Absolutely awesome, awesome fishing out there - especially fishing by myself. Special thanks to Nick out of Sodus for his play-by-play reports yesterday that helped me today for sure. Fishing was so fast and furious that I accidentally caught my throttle kill switch lanyard on my shoelace and killed the engine at one point racing to grab a rod.......awesome fun guys/gals. Good luck to all - get out there and enjoy this incredible fishery we have! - Chris ====================
  16. Happy Birthday Shawn, Enjoy your day bud! - Chris
  17. We decided to fish off shore today with a mixed program from surface to deep lures. Had a decent morning all things considered. The day started off pretty cool with a swall doe swimming across the I-Bay channel. She swam directly in front of us from west to east and then decided to run around Oklahoma beach for awhile. Fished 250-450' and the 280-350' window seemed best . Had 42 degrees down temp with 115' of cable out, I would guess it was down about 85' or so but my FF isn't picking up my lines this year for some reason. Mostly a king bite, but we also took our first steelhead of the year and a nice 12-13# laker with absolutely gorgeous red/orange on her fins. We also kept a coho for the grill. The following took fish: surface planer - 5/8 ounce keel weight, 30#; Ruby Red spoon 10 color core fished with an NBK stinger took two riggers - 115' down 42 sec Nk spoon took one; free slider on the 65' rigger took one on Dirty White Boy 600' copper took two pulling a Gator SD/ Mirage Fly Wire Dipsies at all depths failed to take a hit (cut bait, HawgWild, 42 sec, green dot all failed) Good luck to all, - Chris
  18. Yes - definitely a cause for concern. It could be a seal, especially if you recently pulled the drive, changed the impeller, whatever. It could be a sign that oil is leaking down the shaft and out the water drain/weep hole. I'm not mechanic, but I think this not something to ignore. Good luck - please post a follow up when you find out the cause, - Chris
  19. You don't need the pulleys to support board pull - the steel eye above the reel will support them just fine. In my opinion, the pulleys simply make it easier to retrieve the boards and more importantly allow you to mount the reel at chest height but have the pulley at a higher point (say 4-6 feet up on the top of a mast or roof of your helm) so the tow line doesn't run through the water. Good luck, - Chris
  20. Steve, Great report - thanks for the details!! Be safe on the water and thanks for sharing, - Chris
  21. Fishing Report Chris/ Liv n' Ellie ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5/19 Time on Water:6-9 AM Weather/Temp: sunny, 60's Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: flat calm Surface Temp: 52-54 Location: I-Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated:6 Species Breakdown: all chinook salmon Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: 2.4 Subtroll Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Tried our first trip two weeks ago, but soon after boat launch I lost oil pressure and had to pull boat out after 15 minutes. Turned out to be a defective tension spring in the pressure release valve portion of my oil pump (very odd, but may have always been that way since the factory.) $1200 and two weeks later, we launched today and had a nice day on the water. I've still been blessed to be able to fish with my good buddy Anthony and a couple of times out of Bear Creek with my good bud Jason, but it's been awhile since I could play "captain" on my own boat. Was able to fish with my brother Kev and we did not have a single mark on my graph but I think it's my fishfinder and not a true indication. Started in 100 fow and fished northeast until we hit a nice scum line at 150 fow and we had good action in the slick for two hours. All kings, all healthy and all released except the one in the pic. Fished the slick both on an east and west troll and both directions produced fish. Hot lures: NK 42 sec. mag on rigger 65', free slider Stinger "Live" Alewife spoon on same rigger, 500' copper pulling a gator Spinny/Sweet Pea fly, and the rest were on wire 240' #3 pulling a 42 second flasher/fly. Great action - biggest fish around 20#. Great to be back on the water after my season was shortened last year with a broken arm and ribs. Thanks for all the great reports gang - I've missed giving a report or two myself! Good luck and be safe, - Chris
  22. Great job - that fish is a chinook salmon and at 36" it's a beauty. Be safe on the water, - Chris
  23. Antney, I have the same boat as you - '08 Trophy 2152. I just replaced my raw water pump this off season b/c of the same problem. It lasted me four years (very heavy use) and last year it just started trickling and had a hard time maintaining prime. It would run but "pulsate" as if it was a bad impeller or the motor was going bad. I cleaned out the filter, checked all lines and there was no evidence of blockage. Pump was expensive and hard to find but I bought one online - very easy install. I know it doesn't help, but I dealt with this all of last year and my only option was replacement. Good luck, - Chris
  24. No - the dock still sits in the parking lot, but I've seen a few empty trailers in the parking lot so I think folks are still getting a boat or two in the water (one trailer was a double axle so I presume it was a decent sized boat) Good luck, - Chris
