Awesome fish!!!! - Chris -
Fishing Report Chris/ Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/31/10 Time on Water: 6-10 AM Weather/Temp: partly cloudy/sunny 70's Wind Speed/Direction:seemed like out of the SE Waves: <1' Surface Temp: 70's Location: Braddock's point LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): 41-43 W lines =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: many Total Boated: many Species Breakdown:mostly kings, nice coho Hot Lure: NK Seasick waddler, DW SS black ice magic, SS gator, SS lazer spook, Spinnies in chrome/green Trolling Speed: 2.8-3.2 sog Down Speed: 2.5 mph Boat Depth: 140'-325' Lure Depth: riggers (95', 105' with sliders, 600' copper, wire 285', wire 325') ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished with a newbie today and things were rockin'. Most fish were 7-10#, but we had a couple of nicer fish around 15#, including a nice 12-13# coho. Started in 140 fow and headed NW and our first fish was on while the rod was still in my hand setting our first rigger. Fished NW out to 325' and picked up only 1 or two until the sun came out when things really heated up. The name of the game to day was Spinnies in chrome/green with "flashy flies" like No-see um and purple mirage and spoons in black/silver/white. Most fish came on the NK seasick waddler off our 105' rigger and the black ice slider. We boated 7 or 8 today on the 600' copper pulling a Diehard spinny and a purple mirage fly. Once we switched our wire up to Gator spinny/gator fly and Diehard/ no-see um patterns they began to fire as well so we abandoned one of our riggers so we could keep two wire divers and the copper in the water. We moved the wires out deeper (285' and 325' )and it also seemed to make a difference. The hottest depth seemed to be around 220'-240' with consistent hits on a NW and SE troll. All in all I thinked I've "hooked" my buddy for life and we had a great day. Good luck to all, - Chris

Gentleman, Please accept my deepest apologies - I was NOT trying to discredit the experience you had in anyway nor was I trying to sound "elitist". First, to "Indecisive" please accept my apology - your fish is gorgeous and whether it's a two-pounder or a 50 pounder, anything you catch is a trophy. For whatever reason, this post has taken a bad turn and I apologize for slanting your post. I really was only trying to comment on the girth of 29" seeming to be a bit high. Why do you ask? B/C only a few weeks I considered doing a graphite replica of a salmon and the taxidermist and I were going round and round on girth size of which I was way off in what I thought it was vs. what the actual size was when measured with a tape measure. Perhaps we could have someone with more experience comment on this. As far as "bobs_boy" goes - thanks for pointing out that I'm the only one that feels he catches big fish - it really feeds my ego and makes me feel special - similar to how you must feel knocking me down and in your PM to me. As far as my posts - I've always tried to post fair fishing reports and give advice when needed and not just comment on fish counts and use the site to my advantage for free advertizing. Again, please accept my sincere apology Chaz - your fish is a real beauty and a real trophy that you should be proud of. - Chris -

Fishing Report Chris / Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/24/10 Time on Water: 6-10 AM Weather/Temp: overcast; 70's Wind Speed/Direction: SW <10 mph Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: 70's Location: between I-Bay and Russell LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 15 Total Boated: 11 Species Breakdown:Atlantic, Chinook, brown, steelhead Hot Lure: DW SS Dirty White Boy Trolling Speed: 2.6-3.2 sog Down Speed: consistent 2.5 mph Boat Depth: 180-325' Lure Depth: riggers (85-115' with sliders), wire divers 225-285', 600' copper, 10 color core ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== We almost hit for the Lake-O cycle but no lakers. Good fishing today - we pushed it a bit further offshore to see if the fish would be a little bigger. Good steady action with a very strong rigger bite (85',95',105,115') for the entire day. Moved the riggers a little deeper after 8:30 AM. Sliders were steady - highlight of the day was two fish on one rod - an 8-9# steelhead and an even bigger king!! Both fish were doing acrobatics and it was a heck of a fight. We landed the steelhead but lost the king at the back of the boat fumbling around. The wire bite started hot right out of the chute, but cooled off after 7 AM. Best lures were a DW SS Dirty White boy (both white and silver back) cheated above a NK 42 sec. spoon, NBK both Mag. and standard size caught fish, DW SS Black Magic cuaght one or two, DW SS 42 sec., DW SS Gator, DW SS Wonderbread cheated above our 115' rigger also took two or three. The fleas were back a little bit today but suprisingly were sticking more to the rigger cables than the lines - I'm not sure why. Good luck to all, - Chris Fishing is still good - it was a great day to be on the water

Great job and thanks for your report - that's a gorgeous fish but I'm not sure it's 34# (a salmon with a girth of 29" is "off the charts" and would probably be close to 45 pounds!). For a reference, my buddy caught a 32.12 salmon two weeks ago and it was 43" long and had a girth of 25 1/4". It looks like it might be closer to 28-29 pounds or so......either way it's a trophy and you should be very proud!!!! Thanks for sharing, - Chris -
Fishing Report Chris / Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/15-7/17 Time on Water: few mornings/one afternoon Weather/Temp: sunny/some rain/thunder Wind Speed/Direction: W-SW all three days Waves: calm-3' Surface Temp: 70's Location:Russell to Braddocks LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: lost count Total Boated: lost count Species Breakdown: small kings, only a few 2-3 yr. olds, brown, lakers, steelhead Hot Lure: everything Trolling Speed: 2.4 - 3.3 sog Down Speed: 2.4-2.6 mph Boat Depth: 120-220 fow Lure Depth: 85'/95' riggers with free sliders; 600' copper, 10 color core, wire 175'-300' #3 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Fished with my buddy Anthony (Pike Hunter) two days and my brother one day. Many, many fish - probably 70-80 hits over three days - with many knock offs in between. Most fish were small kings but every now and then a larger fish or two. Hottest bite was the riggers all three days (85' and 95' with many free slider bites). Wire was consistent and caught the biggest fish. Lead core was quiet but 500'-600'copper had action every now and then. Lures - pretty much everything, but Dirty White Boy (white back), 42 second, NBK, gator, and black magic seemed to be the best. Spin Dr's were Live Wire, green/white dot, Capt. valium, Gator, kelly green, and Crazy B**** Flies - Hammer, green crinkle, green glow, crazy b**** to name a few. Trolling speed was consistently 2.5 mph at the ball and it seemed like north/south troll produced the best. Fishing is great - but I'd like to see the big boys come back for a while...... Good luck to all and thanks to Anthony for a great time fishing the past two days, - Chris ====================

IBay King 32#
momay4000 replied to Pike Hunter's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Anthony et al, Thanks again my friend for my favorite day ever on the water! For those of you who don't know Anthony, he is one of the nicest, most humble people you will ever meet - and a great fisherman to boot. Although we are no longer in "first place" - beaten today by a 33#11 oz. salmon - it was a thrill of a lifetime for me. It started with relatively rough seas - 2-3', building to 4' out deep but we had a perfect spread set up in no time and within a few minutes a nice fish on our starboard rigger - only to lose her after a few minute fight. Certainly it was a nice king. After several more hit and misses we boated our first steelhead on a gator Spinny/Hammer fly out 225' over about 180 fow. A little while later we boated a 20# king on a kelly green spinny off the starboard rigger. We were jumping up and down, screaming joyous obscenities like two little kids - thankfully Anthony's niece Jena was just laughing and taking it all in.....but then about 15 minutes later we hit the fish of all fish and all h**l broke loose.... On our port wire Dipsy we had the infamous green dot/white spinny with an A-Tom-Mik Hammer fly out 285' and the beast slammed it unlike anything I've ever seen. My biggest fish to date was a 28# king last year - but this was ridiculous.... The rod was thrashing so much I thought either it or Anthony's arms were going to snap. Within seconds it ran out to 700' on the counter (should have taken a pic of the counter) and I didn't tell Anthony this until now but I accidentally was leaning on the throttle on his kicker and it was floored!!!! I heard Anthony shouting a few more holy #@$%'s but it was actually clumsy ol' me who almost caused us to drop this fish. Funny now - but not funny at the time...... Anthony battled this brute like none other and after about 30 minutes it was landed in the back of the boat with Anthony's 16 year-old niece driving the boat like a 20-yr veteran charter captain in four foot seas - me almost falling in the water trying to net it and several passes of the beast UNDER the boat, near the prop, through the torpedo....... Honestly, we were high fiving, screaming, swearing, laughing, sweating, hugging like three little kids for about fifteen minutes. Knowing we had something special we knew we had to get back in to weigh it, but Anthony being as humble as he is wanted to stay out longer so his niece could catch more fish.....what a true gentleman. What a day for three amateurs. It's amazing how this site has helped us all be better fishermen/women and allowed people to meet and share such great times on the water. My hat goes off to Anthony and his niece for a spectacular day on the water......we'll be back at it next weekend - maybe a 40#'er is in our future. Good luck to all and a special thanks to my buddy Anthony and his niece Jena for an unreal day on the big-O, cheers Big Guy - this one's for you - Chris -
Guys/Gals, I don't want to steal Anthony's (Pike Hunter) thunder but me, Anthony and his niece fished together this morning out of I-Bay and we landed the biggest fish of our lives and the current LOC leader - a 32 #12 ounce chinook..... Out of respect to Anthony - I want him to post the details b/c he landed the fish and it was his boat....but my heart still won't stop pumping from our excitement!!!!!!!! - Chris

Great job, Welcome to the site - lots of great resources here with lots of great fishermen/women. There's lots of great folks fishing out of I-Bay - many of which are always eager to give you a hand and great fishing advice. I fish out of Mayer's on the north end of the Bay - a yellow hardtop Trophy on the end of D-dock. Stop by anytime you see us around or PM me and I'd love to chat.... Good luck, - Chris

DR, Great points on the trolling direction and the input on the current direction. Also, ALL of our fish were released to fight another day. I also forgot one more "odd-ball" occurance over the weekend - when we were pulling up our port rigger my buddy yells "take a look at this" and we had a small king or steelhead about 14" long swimming on the surface right next to the boat attracted to the rigger ball which was only a foot or two below the surface In all my years, I have never seen that before. Good luck in the upcoming days, - Chris

Fishing Report Chris/ Liv 'n Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/4 and 7/5 Time on Water: 5:30-10; 5:30-11 AM Weather/Temp: Hot; 80's; clear Wind Speed/Direction:SW <5 mph Waves: <1 ft to calm Surface Temp: upper 60's Location: I-Bay to Braddocks LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: lost count Total Boated: almost 30 Species Breakdown: many small kings, few coho, 1 or 2 steelhead Hot Lure: see below Trolling Speed: 2.6-3.4 sog Down Speed: consistent 2.5 mph Boat Depth: 180-400 fow Lure Depth: see below ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Great past two days of fishing - Sunday was average but today was unbelievable - hands down the best fishing we've ever had on the lake. Special thanks to Anthony (Pike Hunter) for depth assistance on Sunday and to the Instant Reports. We covered a lot of water and had fish hit at most depths, but the hottest area seemd to be 180-220 fow. There was a debris field near 200 fow and it held some fish (albeit smaller kings) on both days. Every single set- up caught fish (first time ever that I can remeber this happening to us) We had many doubles, two triples, a wire double, two fish on one rod (rigger and slider), hand reeled a fish for 75' b/c of fleas, caught one in my hand while reeling in the 600' copper to change the flasher, and one sick crew member today..... Set-ups which caught fish: - 600' copper - wire Dipsy's with flasher/flys - 175' to 285' out #3 setting - riggers 80' to 135' both with sliders Successful lures: - Gator Spinny/Gator fly - Gator Spinny/purple mirage fly (many fish) - White/green dot spinny/ Hammer fly - Diehard spinny/diehard fly - Diehard spinny/Hammer fly (awesome on copper) - Kelly green spinny/green crinkle fly - Crazy **** combo (many fish) - worked best high between 175-185' out Spoons: - NBK, SS Deathwish, SS bloody death, 42 second - both NK magnum and SS, SS Steelie Dan, SS green dolphin (very hot for us today after 9AM), SS dirty white boy - both white and silver back, SS gator, SS green icicle, SS purple thunder, and I'm sure a few more. FWIW, fleas are so bad we had to cut and re-tie all our wires both days (6-7' on the wire)....... Good luck to all, - Chris

Regardless of conditions my two favorite/best producing flasher/fly combos of all time are: Green dot spinny/tournament hammer fly Kelly green spinny/glow back/crinkle green fly No matter what the conditions, these catch fish continuously Five years ago my best producing paddle combo would have been blue bubble Spin Dr. with any type of green fly - Chris

Thanks Boys, Ray - you're hilarious.....I did have a little chat with the wife as to why so many lights were on.......he,he,he........(actually we keep one on for the kids as an upstairs nightlight and she fell asleep on the couch.......at least that's what she told me......) lol - Chris

Hello gang, I captured this buck with my trailcam behind my house this morning - does anyone have any idea how much more growth he might produce? I've seen him four or five times now and it looks to me like he might grow into a very compact 9-10 point. FYI - the lights in the background are my house...... Thanks for any advice you guys/gals may have..... - Chris
-
Sealine, I've lost two over the years and I spoke with Big Jon and they recommended Gorilla glue. I gently sand the tube to rough it up and I used the Gorilla glue and haven't lost any in three years.....just be careful and don't use too much of the glue or it will foam up when it dries and it pours out from the edges and looks bad..... Good luck, - Chris

Derby Steel Head with Picture
momay4000 replied to REELJERKS's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Mark, Great job - thanks to you and a bunch of other guys, our steelhead is dropping like a lead balloon on the leaderboard..... BTW - I heard the fly/leader adds at least 2.5 pounds to the weight of the fish......lol Fishing is smoking right now - great job bud! - Chris -
Fishing Report Chris/ Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6/26/10 Time on Water: 5:45 - 8 AM Weather/Temp: overcast; 60's Wind Speed/Direction:SW Waves: 1' Surface Temp: 66 Location: Braddocks LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 8 Species Breakdown: steelhead; chinook Hot Lure: White/green dot spinny/Hammer fly Trolling Speed: 2.5-3.5 sog Down Speed: 2.5-2.7 mph Boat Depth: 130-220 fow Lure Depth: riggers 80-120'; wire 240'-285' #3.5 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished with Anthony (Pike Hunter) this morning and we had a blast. Anthony put a steelhead on the LOC board yesterday and we repeated his magic again today with a 12.3# steelhead, currently in 9th place. Fishing started off hot with a double only 5 minutes into things, starting in 140 fow - one fish on the 80' rigger (free slider) the other on wire (lost it). We also lost a very nice fish after a breakoff - again the port rigger 80' down over 150 fow or so. We had a fish or two mixed in until we had a two man triple - both riggers and the wire green dot Spinny/Hammer fly out 280'. We ended the day early after we boated the steelhead on the same green dot spinny/Hammer fly out 280' on wire. Everything took hits today other than the 500-600' copper. Hot lure of the day was the green dot spinny/Hammer fly on wire, but a DW SS 42 sec., steely dan, white back alewife and NBK spoon all took fish. The fishing has really picked up in front of Rochester - all in all it was great day on the water with great company with my buddy Anthony! Good luck to all, - Chris

Gentlemen, We didn't feel anything here in our office in Penfield, but we heard about it. As far as a tsunami - man that would be terrible. A few years ago I watched a special on "rogue" waves in the great lakes and I remember they talked about one possibility could be from earthquakes...... Always something.... - Chris
-
These right here: http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/swivels.htm Good luck, - Chris
-
JT, I've never had this problem and I use copper all the time. The only problem I've ever had is when I'm letting out line, occasionally the swivel will hang up on the rod guides and if you're not paying attention it will backlash on the reel and you'll have an instant mess. Otherwise, I've always used an in-line swivel b/c I've always been scared that the knot will slip when tying mono to copper using an albright. Good luck, - Chris
