looking to replace my spinning reels again and was wondering if anyone has tried a reel with the magnetic bail system. it doesn't seem to matter if i spend 25.00 or 100.00 they only last one fall walleye season before the bail springs fail.by the way if anyone wants about 8 reels with worn out bail springs we could work out a deal!! rollie
does anyone know if rt. 34 from waverly to ithaca is open . want to fish barney's fall derby but don't know if i can get there!! hopefully rt. 6 and 220 will be open by sat. morning.
as long as the canal is open(no ice) will continue to fish cayuga, then it's over to seneca . my boat is too high to launch at toughanock or i'd fish there all year.
fished the harborfest with my daughter , ran to the west side in the dark and set rods when we hit 200 fow. heading on a south troll. went around crow bar point and doubled up,winning fish hit the deck first with a 8 lber hitting second. reset rods and pulled the two rods that didn't take fish. put same lures on these two rods and continued south(not yet to the honey hole). there was not a 20 min. period that went by that a rod did not fire, most of the time it was two!! action did not slow until we were heading back to myers for the weigh in.details of where and what will follow AFTER the B&B derby. GOD bless rollie
got my rainbow for the wall today,26" 7 1/2 lbs out of cayuga. hit a rigger parked at 48 ft. with a lure back at 30 ft. i know the lake O boys will say it's a small one but to me after waiting this long for one over 5 1/2 lbs. it's at the taxidermy shop as i type this. i was on a south troll due to my auto-pilot not working (broken wire) running the 80 ft. line on the west side. raining buckets when the rigger released, said to myself, self it's raining too hard to go get that pole untill i seen the fish come out of the water on the opposite side that it hit on!! several good runs, three more leaps into the air,a tangled up net in a rod holder, glasses that are streaked with the water running thru my hat and a hard turn to the insde due to the wind. well i got the net under it and the memories will go to the grave with me!! the rest of the day (this was the first fish) was very good, put 12 out of 13 in the boat, one was a 5 1/2 lb. landlock one was a 4.25 lb. brown. rest were a mix of lakers & shackers. off the water at 1:00 after a 10:30 start.
taiked to the boys from DEC while they were loading there boat. every 4 yrs. they do a sampling on cayuga, weight, lenght and scale samples.this happens to be the yr. they seemed to be suprised at the very good health of the fish and the lack of lamprey.
got home around 4:00 cleaned fish till 7:00 including clean-up. best guess is 100-110 lbs. of filets. thanks for keeping them on ice. all but 2 fish were in great shape. GOD bless rollie

i was told there is a .5 mph speed differance due to the different distance between sea level and the water level on the lakes// makes no difference to me because i trust my probe
