  1. Excellent to read "Musky fishing reports" again.Congrats on the Kings! Sorry, I'm bummed I couldn't get to the Bluegrass gig, I am so sick of tractor work I can't speak! Still trying to get up to get at the staged fish!
  2. Nice pics Stan, jealous of the shorts & tee shirt, thinking we might want the heater on in the morning tomorrow out here.Hey, I must have missed something, did you get a Hewes?
  3. Happy B-Day! Come on over to Cayuga on Saturday and splash around in the rain!
  4. My 16' has a 40 hp Merc 4 stroke and I do need to run a bag from time to time, especially running w/ the wind) to get her down to laker speed, just a thought seeing as how you mentioned you have a 60 hp on the boat.
  5. Greg, I can't tell you why the unit takes so long to get a signal, but I can't see how it would drain your battery to turn it on an hour> departure, unless the battery is whipped. Post the GPS issue on "This Old Boat" forum w/ the model #, etc. (hope you are getting in some archery practice what with all this fishing & rigging going on )
  6. Pequod, I Launched out of Meyers b/c it's convenient, fish are not far from T-Falls State Park, not sure how you are set up, but I don't like drops over 90', found lots of fish around 75-85 FOW.
  7. Both types of boards have their place. Actually the jumping inline seems to add some nice action to the baits. I don't try to run coppers >300' off my inlines, but I love them for trying a high line w/o the commitment of running out a big board. I do like the Otter boards for running copper over 300', I just added a 2cd keel to my Otters which should improve their ability to keep long coppers out to the side and consequently enable my releases(Scotty) to perform crisply even on smaller fish. For inlines I like the Church "walleye" board for 2-10 colors & short coppers and the Off Shore w/ the "tattle flag" for flat lining stix w/ long leads. One more thing; the higher your planner mast the easier it is to get your release to slide out and if you are trolling slow, early in the year the hgher mast will keep your release from dragging the planer line into the water.
  8. If you find a great deal & there are just too many for you pm me, I'll take the rest!
  9. Great post! I have really enjoyed following your progress. Good for you!
  10. Good going! You are getting the hang of this pretty fast!
  11. Nice post Bill, I gotta get into this digital camera technology!
  12. Still thinking of getting up to the mouth of the SR via port Ontario this week/ weekend- is it still happening or will we be beating a dead horse? Js ? depths?, any pertinent info?- assuming it's an early or nothing deal? THANKS!
  13. Made a solo quickie trip in the 16' over today and Wow are there some big heavy lakers out there right now! Had to reorient myself at first (haven't been jigging since last labor day!) but eventually figured out just how far south the fish have wandered and then laced into them, best I could do was approx 31-33" but wide as a whale, released them all at the side of the boat but what a blast! Most of my hookups came on the retrieve, some up at only 20', just when you are really starting to slack off, wham!
  14. Holy Mic, Holy Mac, what a Hog! Way to go RR!
  15. I'm in, not sure what I'll have for a crew but I'll round up somebody!
  16. 7' ugly med/heavy & Okuma CV45LC w/ 30# Ande and 30' 15# FC leader for spoons, 20# FC for flashers on staged fish. You get a hot fish behind the boat and a 7' rod is a lot easier to weave thru your other other stuff and you can really whip a fish quick w/ a 7' rod (ask my kids)cuz you got major leverage on them instead of the other way around! My 2 cents(all it's worth!)
  17. Jeez Richard, your making me feel not so bad I have spent the last 3 days and tomorrow on a tractor instead of a boat! Well guys, are there fish to be had out of Port Ontario this week or what? You guy's running Js? Give me the low down, will be up there Tues, Wens or Thurs!
  18. Get the torpedo weights from A-TOM-MIK, a great tracking, low blow back weight for a great price!
  19. Ray, if you are going to "milk the chicken" in my barn, I'm going goose hunting!
  20. A foot note for guy's getting started: I started out on 9/2 w the following program; 2 mag wire dipsy rigs, set on 1.5 w/ 1 out 180'-white crush smart fish/crinkle green and the other 250' out white/green dot spinny green&white siggs fly. 2 short riggers down 90', DW SS feelin Irie, & 100' Mtn Dew spinny/mtn dew pulse fly 2 out down riggers 60' ,DW SS watermelon and 70' Crazy ***** spinny & fly I cheated the spoon rigger w a stinger chicken wing slider 1 200' copper w/ gold& green hammered mauler off an inline board 1 10 color w/ Blk/silver rapala off an inline. I couldn't believe I didn't get a hit after 10 minutes since this general approach has clobbered them since July. Changed speeds, cut across bottom contours, raised & lowered riggers, increased leads, etc. Then changed 1 spoon or flasher at a time untill things began to crank up. Was it actually changing the colors that made things click or did I just finally run into some receptive fish? Well, it doesn't matter! You gotta do stuff that keeps you interested in being in "hunt" mode, changing small things and looking for patterns-it keeps you alert and increases confidence- which in the end is the most important thing to have on your boat! Purple didn't save the day-enjoying the challenge of getting into them did!
  21. Great to see you and your crew got out, had a good time, and BAPTIZED the boat no less!
