  1. Thanks for the reports, keep em coming- will be up next week!
  2. I did get a pair of the Torpedo "Cudas" that I was planning to run off my riggers w/ an OR 16 release subbed in for my Scotty, but the dive chart shows I would need over 200' of line behind(down below) my rigger weight just to hit 200', the whole thing just seemed to cumbersome so I shelfed the idea. Chmura's ideas on using these weights as a "stealth" presentation seem much more practical but maybe this 2lb Torpedo would have a depth curve that would make using it more feasible. Matthew, do you have a dive chart for this weight and is the weight available- I would try a pair!
  3. Trolled mid lake yesterday, 500 & 600 copper off the otters were the best producers! Dipsy action was slower than last week (Cold front moving thru), the wire slide divers(w/ long leads) were much better than the regular dipsies yesterday. Got a few rainbows on watermelon spoon and watermelon cheater.
  4. Sounds like an awesome outing!
  5. Can't get out Mon-Fri? I guess that's where I come in! Hope you left a few for me and my boys- sounds like you hit em pretty good, way to go! Will let you know what we find.
  6. I lose very, very few wire dipsy fish, here's a couple thoughts; Use tournament style hook rigs on the fly.Use a high quality snubber behind the dipsy. Set the drag on wire dipsy reels fairly light (they should click out a wee bit of line from time to time as you troll). DO NOT HORSE THE FISH!.You can tighten the drag up a bit after you get the rod out of the holder. Pump back gently and reel down quickly with a good bend in the rod at the high point- don't bring the rod to a stop w/ no tension on it like you are popping a whip. Resist the temptation to tighten the drag a lot and really gain on that sucker, it's rarely a good idea- just keep pumping and reeling, once you have a feel for this action you can really gain on a fish fairly quickly.I don't reel or pump when the fish is running or head shaking but good tension and a drag that gives is critical. A laker out on 200' of wire is pretty much out of tricks when you get it to the boat but don't let a King that looks out of gas fool you- don't tighten the drag way down at the boat.
  7. I have a Depth Raider and although it's helpful, the down temp was moving around quite a bit. I marked very little bait where we were fishing and only scattered individual fish, I just kept turning around and working anything that looked promising with different depths than the last pass. The best advice I ever got about this kind of fishing is "don't leave fish to find fish"!
  8. Off East Port Bay on Friday we took Kings in water from 48 to 60 deg from 70-110 down over 140-350 FOW. The steelies we got into were down 25-60' over 300-400 FOW.
  9. Happy Birthday Scott! -Andy
  10. Actually, I won it! Got to shoot all the top bows at "Legends of Fall Archery" in Tully, and I just really liked the Drenalin! They had to order me one cuz my draw length is 31". It's all set up, now I have to learn to shoot it- my last bow was an entry level Alpine that needed 4 pins to get me to 40 yds (but it killed a lot of deer).
  11. Started shooting my brand new Drenalin today and I am seeing some dandy bucks too!
  12. Good going Sean! The lakers have got their snout in the feed bag for sure!
  13. Musky thanks for finishing my train of thought- I had one rigger w/ the eye hook turned at an angle so the cable was rubbing a bit. I think the biggest thing that will help the hop on deep rigger retrieves w/ good sized weights is to swivel the rigger straight back if possible.
  14. How do you get/order the 2cd keel?
  15. Got this going now, sorry guys. 1st attempt at this for my darling wife!
  16. We were out on Cayuga today 8/10, did over 20 fish from 7:30 to 10:30. To be honest I know that I lost count, we went the first hour w/ at least 1 fish on at all times. Mostly Lakers w/ 2 salmon (one was a real slammer, and the other wasn't bad) thrown in. White spinnys/smart fish w/ green & aqua green flies. Ran the flashers right behind the ball down 90+, wires out 320'. Salmon on 7 colors & 200' copper w/ stix. Fleas were no problem but the weeds were bad in spots.
  17. Greg,it sounds like you have the basics. Using the speed off the GPS should work for the lakers, you want to be in the 2.4-2.6 range. I would target the suspended fish out over 300' , use the fish finder to get depth. Let out 300-320' of wire w/ the mag dipsy set @ 1.5. I was over there today, 8/10, put over 20 fish in the boat- the lake is on fire, good luck!
  18. Greg, do you have a sonar/ gps(gives speed over ground)?
  19. You guy's look like you are having a great time! Nice pics Stan, great to see people really enjoying fishing!
  20. Like Tim said, with the old unit I would get batteries when I stopped for coffee on the way to the launch!
  21. I am installing the vex "thru hull" unit in my 16' to use w/ a vex unit for jigging, etc. I have a regular Lowrance dual frequency sonar in the boat all ready, so this flasher setup will be my front sonar. I will post the results.
  22. Rollie, I often leave the skin on lakers from the FLX, put them in the smoker, skin side down- watch your temp in that creation of yours ( much over 200 and you are asking for trouble w/ fish). It's very easy to overcook fish in a smoker, though lakers are a bit more forgiving as well as incredible- don't freeze and then smoke, do it the other way around, much better results! Keep asking questions!
  23. Dude, never mind the eye candy! I've had some issues w/ cable hop on my mag 10s as well. It's worse when they are swung out and speed is above 2.1(down). Run the cable thru the eye hook-make sure it's turned correctly and smooth, also it will help to slow down a bit when you retrieve the probe rigger. If I don't want to slow down I try to swivel the riggerback so that the cable is not running off the pulley at an angle. Good luck!
