Just a nagging consideration: Waldo doesn’t pull much so you will need to stay very attentive to ‘pullbacks ‘ i.e. strikes.

Thanks for the feedback mr 580. Yeah, for me no sense taking all that time to deploy and reel in the 10 colors we've been using off the boards. I have a couple Okuma 55s that were wire reels that I'm switching to Highspeeds so there's the reels and I don't care what the line counter says, once the copper is out and the power pro is in the release I know where that line is running. I had the same experience you may had with short coppers vs leadcore in my winter time finger lakes fishing: just did not have the same results as 4,5,6 colors off the boards. Let's stay in touch, sounds like we fish near each other on erie, I'd like to hear how this works for you. -Andy

I'm going to put together a couple walleye Bloodrun copper rigs. One will be a 250' and the other will be a 200' to target eyes down 60-70. I'll be running these on Erie out of Dunkirk, Silver Creek and Buffalo. I will need to put some power pro on behind this copper but I was hoping to not put a whole lot more on than what I'd need to get the copper into the water a bit and out to the board and then a little on the reel. I'm only going to use these on Erie for eyes so if you have set these rigs up let me know what you did. Thanks!

Am I missing something- I don't see them for sale anywhere? I've built up a decent collection of deep diving cranks: husky jerks, bandits, taildancers, and P 10s and 20s and flicker minnows but haven't seen anything like what you are talking about.

Anybody know how much mono you put on a Okuma cv45DS before the 1000' of wire so the depth counter reads accurately? Thanks!

Doc and I seemed destined to fish under adverse conditions this year. Continuing the trend was our outing yesterday. For a very brief 15 minutes all seemed well after clearing the break wall and then quickly things deteriorated as a nasty west wind freshened up and breakers formed as we were getting lines out. We lost a first fish to a break off and then struggled to hold course westward eventually giving up and trolling south. Somewhere east of the break wall we got traction on the browns and slammed some real beauties. After realizing we were going to limit soon we turned back towards the launch which left Doc to handle the last couple by himself due to the necessity of clinging to the wheel on my part. Similar to my last outing the fish seemed to be podded up with out a clear connection to anything. This trip the bay rat BT took 1/2 and the black silver yozuris the other 1/2. Our fish mostly came in 12 fow, speed was ‘ god only knows ‘

Good times fishing cold water the last couple days. Fished east and west of the breakwall in 20-3’ ran sticks behind the big boards at 1.6-2.5. Fish seemed to be in pockets not related to temp and got most in 37 to 38 degree water. We ran a varying range of colors and shapes but almost all came on black silver 3” yozuri and 3” bass pro stx yozuri clones. 1 coho hit a lime bay rat and 1 brown hit a yellow smith wick.

If you run em when the fish are hot they will be!! (lol)

Spring Striper fishing techniques are pretty location specific. In general baits begin to diverge as you go down river. The Kingston area is where you see the most trolling. It's a great way to cover water and use gear you may already have. Schoolies (small to medium fish) can produce a lot of action and we have certainly caught big fish trolling as well. So there is a lot of ways to skin a cat on the Hudson. Just remember it's really all about having fun
