  1. I think this the way I'm going to go.Emailed them this am. I figure even if I'm not going deep I want to run a big weight on this rigger, which will be my middle rigger of 3 and the Probe rigger. That way I can minimize blowback and a wire sticking out back in the net zone.
  2. Planning to put a 3rd rigger on my new to me boat. It has 2 Big Jon captn packs. Question is it worth shelling out $400 bucks to get a Brute for running a real deep mid day meat rig etc. or not. Opinions welcome but real experience is what I'm after. Thanks!!
  3. What would be even more exciting than coming to the farm and drilling holes in my boat would be to offer to help Hank drill some holes in my boat. Then I could enjoy the bill he'd send me for your 'help', and enjoy the trip up to bail him out of jail, and maybe visit you in the hospital (LOL) In all seriousness though I really do appreciate you and Wally helping me get a handle on how these devices need to be interconnected and what parts are required. There seems to be a lot of 'fine print' to the term 'plug n play'.
  4. Gotta haul it home and get it fitted up at L&M and then there will probably be some pics. Gonna be a bit.
  5. This is the one right? https://www.hodgesmarine.com/Navico-Xsonic-Tm150m-Transom-Mount-Transducer-p/nco000-13944-001.htm
  6. Yes, I've looked at the site over the years, drooling and dreaming. Actually found a nice SportCraft 232 GLS on there that I bought today.
  7. That's exactly what my plan was. New boat has one hds 9 now which I'll use for thru hull and I am going to add a new hds 9 + 3G radar ( with a heading sensor). Boat is I/O w/ a Simrad ap so no need for the Lowrance pilot.
  8. For $1000 are the 'carbon' advantages really significant for the part time fisherman?
  9. Too many models & numbers what is the difference between these 2 gen 3 displays? https://anchorexpress.com/Lowrance-HDS-9-Carbon-Multifunction-Display-C-map-Insight-000-13680-001 and this https://www.amazon.com/Lowrance-000-11790-001-Fishfinder-Chartplotter-StructureScan/dp/B00RLO8M6M/ref=sr_1_3?m=A07671336RBB7JPQRIMB&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1520390860&sr=1-3
  10. I respect Hank's experience on this subject so I started out considering reasonably priced Pennys, Sportcrafts, and maybe a Wellcraft. It seems like if you get a boat with a good reputation that seems like it has been well cared for and then have a certified dry/wet survey done on it then you have a reasonably high, statistical, probability of getting what you pay for.
  11. With all due respect, it seems to me that if I'm in fog or darkness and the radar shows a potential collision situation on the screen I am going to stop what ever else I'm paying attention to and dedicate myself to that situation. That being the case, as a part time fisherman and guy who just spent too much $ on a new to me boat, I don't think I'm going to spring for a MARPA, capable radar setup. At the risk of sounding like someone who knows more than they do( which is certainly not me cause I will admit I don't know sh#*t) I think it's possible that sea sense, caution and a prudent awareness of one's limitations might be the best tools we have to avoid bad things happening in our boat.
  12. The Point 1 is a heck of a lot cheaper than some of the alternatives https://www.milltechmarine.com/Lowrance-Point-1-GPS-Antenna-Sensor-with-Compass_p_351.html
  13. Thanks mudflat,I like to understand this technology for myself, fortunately Hank will be in charge of the actual show.Interestingly, the guys at Anchor couldn't answer this question definitively though I strongly suspected you had to have a heading sensor.
  14. I'm somewhat confused about whether or not a separate NMEA 0183 'heading sensor' is required in order for the Lowrance 3G radar to overlay onto a Lowrance HDS GPS display map. Some have told me yes and others no. Any experts out there?
  15. How do I get contact info for this guy? Thanks
  16. Looking for a reasonably priced 1995-2000+ freshwater SportCraft/Wellcraft. Any leads are appreciated (I do know about anything on Craig's List). Thanks!
  17. Thanks Hank!
  18. Some sort of encrypted, secretive, code not intended as general information (lol)
  19. Can we get out using the Coast Guard launch? Anything else usable? Thanks
  20. Nice video. I'm jealous of the size of your crew !
  21. I'm not sure there is really that much difference but others may disagree.
  22. Dude, we PM'd back & forth, I told you I was going out Monday & never heard back. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding. I'm going out again Tomorrow -.Thurs. State launch(west side) @ 6:30ish. Let me know. Catch ya later!
  23. How much are boards/ where do you get them? I'm pretty good with electrical stuff, with some guidance from you I'm sure I could manage.
  24. Mag 5 HS Rigger is 4 years old, I bought it new. Stopped working at all under warranty- took it to Screwy's got it back, worked fine for 3 trips and stopped working completely again. Took it to the guy near Lockport, he fixed it(not under warranty) then it worked for 2 trips and stopped working completely again. Board was replaced each time. Something more must be going on with this thing- was going to have the board removed this time. Any thoughts?
  25. Cannon Repair guy Lost the number for the guy near Lockport who does downrigger repair. Used him (Tony?) in the past-very good. Contact info much appreciated!
