  1. Oak 8/21 Just crushed em today. Fished 350-500. Went 18 for 19 Solo, mostly FF. Morning Wood/ lemon lime ITO mag fly on the 95' rigger was literally non stop, every time I got it back out. Ridiculous fishing.
  2. Got some great grilling material there and you're arms aren't killing you from an epic battle with a major on the copper that all you can do with is smoke or bake- you're all set for a good night, enjoy!!
  3. Never had a problem with Cold Water at all but I do really like Captain Chucks (affiliated with Tuna's reel repair who also can't be beat) https://capt-chuck.com/
  4. Sometimes lead will outfish copper and vice versa but unless I was sure the core was the better choice I'd run the short copper. Another thing: Unless you got a bunch of guys fishing I'd run that junk line out on a big board if possible or a walleye board if not. If you are bound and determined to run it down the chute spool it onto an Okuma 55 LS (super high speed ) so you can clear the middle of the stern quick if you get a big,hot king tearing around the back of the boat, it's bad enough dodging the wires without another thing that cuts mono in the middle too.
  5. Open seat- Oak 8/22-8/26 Looking like I will probably fishing solo at the Oak on good days from 8/22-8/26. PM me if you are looking to get out.
  6. We fillet em as we fish into Ziplock bags (skin on). Can get away with a much smaller cooler which we keep cold with reusable ice packs piled into a Walmart plastic bag -no water to deal with.
  7. Hang in there. Determination is a wonderful thing. Prayers for all!
  8. Oak 8/6&8/7 Got out late on Sunday afternoon, found a great screen + fish in 250-350 temp was 120+ down, mostly 2 year olds & steelhead all on spoons. Monday am started in 250 but kept going to 550 and found matures in the deeper water - did not mark much bait. On Sunday the bite started with spoons, then changed to FFs on the wires and then after 11:00 it was meat on the 150 rigger only.
  9. DW smelled ok and had nice shine but tough as hell- didn't like it. Prefer Familiar Bite & has worked better than DW seemed to.
  10. Never had much attention from the fish when running the MC stuff, sold it all...
  11. Don't confuse whole bait ( typically alewives) with cutbait (typically fillets of sliced of herring). You usually have to fish whole bait with a bait head that has a single hook in front of the treble to pull the whole bait into a slight curve to get the right rolling action. Cut bait is usually fished with a bait head that has only a treble and the bait head itself is designed to give the rig the right roll. You mix and match these setups but it's a good idea to have the differences in mind before you start getting creative.
  12. Hope like heck to get out Sunday afternoon!
  13. It seems like we are tired of the language we used to speak. A woman I work with the other day said she "really likes to office at home". 'Office at home',- what does this mean?
  14. Not trying to start WW III but I would have to say that overall I've dealt with bone headed moves made by weekend warriors way, way more often than charters. The simple fact is that most charter captains have far more skill and experience in both finding fish and boat control than the average joe.
  15. These are just rough generalizations but, there are different sonic signatures between braid and wire. Feeding fish will typically respond to wire presentations aggressively. Braid can be more effective with spoons and long leads (Slide diver) when the bite is tough.
  16. Reach out to Hank at L&M on here, integrity and a lifetime of smarts.
  17. Shorter = snappy, aggressive action. Longer = lazy, slow action. Typically meat is supposed to appeal like an easy meal soooo...
  18. Make sure you have a means to measure down speed and temp. It's critical to run your presentations at the right temp and speed. Additionally you need to know where your divers are running on the setting you have them on. Something to think about also is that the wire diver has very different sound signature that can be appealing to feeding fish. Also you may want to take into account that there are days when riggers outfish divers and vice versa. As long as conditions permit I usually run 2 riggers (1 w/spoon + 1 w/flasher fly), 2 wire divers (usually both w/ FF) or 1 wire diver (FF) + braid slide diver (spoon) , and a junk line(core(spoon) and copper(FF)) off each side on the big boards or big inlines. Then I let the fish speak for themselves. Follow an S pattern across depths this will let you know where the bait/fish are and what speed they want it(outside lines in turn run faster/inside lines in turn run slower). Tight lines- remember it's the journey that counts!
  19. Many of the manufacturers only make their slashers to rotate in one direction. John King sells them in pairs to rotate opposite directions(port/starboard). In my experiments so far it seems like the slasher flashers have done better than big paddles pulling meat during the mid day doldrums so I thought I'd look into the directional thing and see if I was missing something which it doesn't seem like I was.
