  1. save the otters for back up & get a pair of these http://www.auroralitestackle.com/planerboards.html Called a bunch of Erie Captains who fish boards everyday and the Auroralites were their top pick. I got the regular doubles and they are awesome for copper & core and flatlines too. I keep my Otters in the little boat and still use em but they just are not half the board these things are.
  2. These are very sea worthy boats. I have one & have fished hard with it on the FLX and Ontario. Excellent hull design that will allow you to handle big water. -Andy
  3. I think you need to get some background on where lure choice starts to come into the picture. As I pointed out in my reply to you spoon post/question, lure choice is not the most important factor to take into account in this kind of fishing. Read this awesome LOU post written by Tom from ATOMIK. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=20724&hilit=attractor%2Ffly
  4. I'm not familiar w/ your location but unless you are in an area like the west end of Ontario where the king fishing has been good you may not have many kings around to catch. This is another popular site to look for specific site info http://spoonpullers.proboards.com/index.cgi? What I can tell you for sure is that in general 2 things are crucial for consistently catching Kings. You need to be trolling in the right temp water and at the right speed down at the bait (not surface speed). To do this you need down temp and down speed - or you need to be in radio contact w/ somebody who has figured out the right depth (temp zone) and speed and you must be going the same direction they are. It's true you need the right stuff in the water but if it's not where the fish are feeding(the right depth/temp zone) and/ or it's not running at the right speed (down speed), you will be really leaning on Lady Lucks arm pretty hard. Check this out viewtopic.php?f=16&t=20724&hilit=attractor%2Ffly & happy fishing!
  5. They might be discontinued. They are not on Z-Man's online store any more, looks like you can get some here http://www.overstockbait.com/Chatter_St ... l-cstk.htm
  6. Good report Ed. You'll like the x-4.
  7. Hope & prayers that all is going as well as possible! -Andy
  8. That's a big ole' fish Scott! Lakers like that are a treat on a rigger rod. -Andy P.S. don't get a treble through your fingers snatching those lunkers out of the drink- you'll get stuck w/ rhythm duty.
  9. The site is working fine now!
  10. You got 2 things that a dipsy rod needs to be able to do; 1.) It's got to have backbone & strength to handle normal loading from the diver & also be able to work in and then lift a big fish in tight quarters to the net man. 2.) At the same time this rod needs to have fast action so it can respond to the tremendous surge of force that is created by a savage hit and furious head shake following the hit without tearing the hook from the fish's mouth due to the lack of 'give' in either superbraid or wire. I use the Shimano Talora 7' downrigger rod a lot of the time (7' TLAF 70M) . I run only Mag divers (less wire out= less problems all the way around) and this rod will handle a nasty King too, remember the longer the rod the more advantage you give the fish cuz it's like giving the fish a wrench with a longer handle! When I'm running 4 riggers, and or when the diver bite is really hot I will usually use a pair of Talora 8' roller rods (8' TLA80 MRG2). Ask these guy's about these rods, they helped design them.http://www.howiestackle.com/index.php?categoryID=10 I do believe that if you fish out of a wide beamed large boat with an experienced crew then diver rod choice is far less critical than in a small boat w/ a greener crew situation. A hot King on wire shooting thru the maze of rods tightly packed on a little boat can humble you in a hurry and the right rod will really help give you the leverage and maneuverability to 'close the deal'. -Andy
  11. I get the same message, "Suspended".
  12. I'd get 2 reels loaded from Tom @ ATOMIK, a 300 and a 500. I second Rob's advice on the Okuma Classic pro leadcore rods, get the 7' easier to reef on the fish & easier to weave between other rods in the the event of a 'fubar' fish behind the boat.. Run the coppers off the big boards out to the side - you will be glad you did !(use the big Scotty power grip releases) If you are going to run them off inlines you better get a 400 instead of a 500'. I run 20lb leaders on 300' and shorter w/ spoons, you can just add them on w/ a sampo micro swivel and remove it when you run a FF combo.-Andy
  13. Yeah, we had a couple rigger fish in a row there and I just get all 4 reset and the 45' goes again and one of the kids grabs it and cranks down and says "I'm snagged on one of the rigger weights". So, I trip & raise the weights and low and behold he's still 'snagged' on something, oops NOT! Boy,there are some big ole nasty lakers kicking around this summer. When you look up after a bunch of net jobs and see the AP is blinking on 'stand by' it's never good! Good thing your wife had the situation under control, please extend my apologies and thanks to her. -Andy
  14. Some of Saturday's fish did come from around T-Falls which was why I wasn't surprised to see the smelt in them but the fish we kept from Sun were from much, much further north. Makes me wonder how far some of these bait fish and predator fish travel.
  15. Didn't think much of finding smelt in Saturday's fish but on Sun again most of the recognizable forage species were smelt again. Can't remember seeing so many!
  16. Great pics & good for you for getting on the fish! -Andy
  17. Hey Chris, I ran a perch colored stick on 6 colors after talking w/ ya but nada. We got our bows on Yecks & Bees on shallow riggers & sliders. Also, I bumped the guy in that little sailing dingy w/ a planer board, how many points do I get? -Andy
  18. Scott, thanks for working around me yesterday as we plunged southward w/ nobody at the wheel. My cores didn't exactly light things up either this weekend but it is nice to see those rigger rods going off. Your guys looked like they were having a good time. -Andy
  19. Bite was different for us today. Started off working the same water w/ a 4 rigger spoon program but things were much slower down around T-Falls w/ only a couple lakers and one good bow out in front of AES. We eventually cruised up to Sheldrake and got into the fish in 60-80 FOW with the 4 rigger spoon program. Kept a big box yesterday so I tried to C&R as much as possible but we had to box a few.Did manage to get almost all the silvers back in the water in good shape. Pretty good fathers day w/ my middle son T-bone (Tristan) and his buddy Matt. Breakfast on the water Some fish
