  1. Planning on a 1st trip to Chautauqua. Could use some pointers on a strategy. I have the usual gear, set up to troll, cast, etc. thanks
  2. Always sad to hear of another Vets passing and a fisherman to boot! RIP Mark
  3. I have a Eagle 24.5 I/O. My tanks are 2 different sizes, factory plumbed for the main and the kicker that is in the ‘transom cutout’. I am not sure on tank size but I can check with someone
  4. Pm sent
  5. Still hoping to get somewhere on this. Thanks
  6. Yes, I drive by frequently on my way from work to the camp where I keep my boats in Olcott. I usually go in quite a ways. On successful hunts in remote public areas I quarter the deer and pack out on my frame pack in plastic bags. I typically walk in with most of my clothing in scent lock bags on same pack.
  7. No comparison. Weighted steel is the only way to go. You don’t really need a termination kit though. I go Albright from braid to weighted steel then Albright from weighted steel to a short piece of power pro and then Albright to mono leader. If you don’t like Albright from braid to mono leader then tie the braid to a small spro swivel and then mono to swivel. I do it both ways and haven’t seen much difference. I do use 50lb braid.
  8. Former dairy farmer (used to a 1000 acres at his disposal but not no more) relocated in Lockport/Olcott seeks mature, experienced hunting partner with some familiarity with either or Tonawanda/Hartland WMA or someone who has access to private property.I'm also a part time Charter captain on Ontario/Erie so I probably have some insights/opportunities to offer in that dept.
  9. I used to run mags inside and regulars w/ ring outside but I’ve gotten away from it . The mags are tough on everything at 3mph . I still use mag slide divers on Erie but speed is lower
  10. Big boards are probably worth looking at. I run a shorter core or copper all the way out and a long core next . The other side a different shorter core or copper and then a different longer copper. For instance Starboard :150 copper, 300 copper. Port: 10 color core , 400 copper. As far as divers go I would recommend considering running inside wire divers with FF combos and outside slide divers with spoons or at least a SD on one side and wire dipsy on the other and let fish decide. As far as the riggers and meat goes , I like to mix there as well - deep rigger w/ deep meat + big paddle then stack spoon over that. Mid rigger with meat and 8” pro troll or spinny then stack a spoon at a different depth above than spoon stacker on deep rigger. Shallow rigger I usually stack 2 different size and color spoons.
  11. Thanks, that was the way I was thinking of going. In retrospect I am not sure I should have gotten this technology but I was in the process of setting both of my boats up to have use rear controls, the PanOptix tech, etc so I figured I would build the SmartTroll wiring into the setups from the start. I will attempt to relay my observations on the Gen II setup as soon as I get a handle on things
  12. just remember to include the trucking expense for the 1/2 ton of fuel you’re hauling lol.
  13. I guess not many people are using SmartTroll systems...
  14. I need to know how people have hooked up their smart Troll probes to both rigger releases or lines etc. And how people have hooked up the probes on Diver lines. Help much appreciated. Thanks
  15. you can get a pair of mauals for next to nothing (pm me) . Installing them is going to be a bigger deal than buying them AND don;t forget the expense and time of installing diver rod holders- you will want diver s and holders but theres more to it than just the rod, reel n wire
  16. I always have cranks in the mix, let the fish decide
  17. Darn good deal right there, got 3 300’ coppers or I’d get it!
  18. Should have been with me this spring on my charters then. No need to be so sure you are right no matter what even if you have an investment in a certain presentation. I don't have a personal investment in any kind of presentation so when a specific presentation isn't working within my customer's time frame I start changing things around to catch fish. If by changing to a spoon presentation I get a Laker when I wasn't getting them with 2 different colored cowbell rigs at different speeds, I'm not going to say to myself; ' You know , I should find out if I was trolling the wrong way with those cowbells or try more colors because they are supposed to work no matter what'. Nope, I'm gonna do what I do with all the different gear and lure presentations I use, which is to run a mix of the stuff that typically works in the water I'm seeing the fish the I want in at that time of year and take it from there.
  19. Lakers don’t always want ‘bells’ , let the fish decide- run bells , mag spoons and flasherfly combos, spread out over riggers, divers and junk lines
  20. Yep, not complicated unless you’re boat is a fashion statement 😜PS; a little weight on yer releases is usually all that is required for more aggressive slide outs, very easy on Clippers- there is a bolt hole
  21. So , in typical fashion, the person who indicated that they would go in on this with me has ‘disappeared’ . If you are serious about 9 trays or more, PM me asap. Thanks
  22. The Coho and King fishing has been epic this Spring. Unfortunately, the Coho, hands down 'the best eating' fish in the lake, disappear as quickly as they appear.
  23. I have sent the same PM to the first 4 people who sent me a PM. I should know about availability tomorrow Monday 5/2. Thanks
  24. I like to fillet, brine and prepare my own meat strips. Looking for someone to split a case of whole herring. PM me - do not respond as a post. Thanks!
  25. I do have a rudder on my bowmount. I definitely noticed a difference in the capability of the motor to maintain boat position in the strong currents on the Niagara River . I'm not sure how much difference it has made when using the bowmount as the autopilot. What I have noticed is how important it is to begin immediately using the kicker in conjunction with the bowmount as soon as I start trolling, especially with 4 customers onboard going into a chop. I got into the habit of using the bowmount itself to troll in an effort to get fishing asap and then I would get busy resetting lines etc and run on just the bowmount for longer than I was aware and with 4 customers + me the batteries would get depleted and my electric planer reels which are wired to the bowmount batteries will run pretty slow getting the boards in at the end of a trip.
