I started a similar thread last spring on this issue. I was interested in tying a short leader which I could then snap onto to make any length leader I wanted. I messed around w/ it some & decided I didn't really like the way the fly moved but I did catch some fish w/ flies rigged that way. I tie my fly leaders w/ a palomar to a big coast lock snap swivel so they are pretty easy to jockey around but I really tend to 'marry' most of my flies to specific flashers. I do have some pairs that feature rather long leaders (36-54") Also have found that damaged ratty looking flies often outfish new flies. Who knows? (you gotta remember to try keep in mind that we're trying to 'out smart' a creature w/ a brain the size of a pea) -Andy

It's strange that just the other day, you could access those lures online but they are not accessible now. Just thought I'd share this observation of mine; I've found that rather than putting all my eggs in one basket it's sometimes a good idea to run a bow spread that includes a mix of natural and aggressive baits b/c sometimes these fish are in a neutral mood. I like to try to make sure that I'm offering both at the same depths and I try to keep them separate form each other (i.e keep naturals on one side of the boat and aggressive action & colors on the other). Obviously if one or the other is taking all the fish I change out the spread. Also don't be afraid to run small attractors in front of the Koke/Coho type spoons,squids and spinners, but leave the natural spoons & stix 'clean'. -Andy

I agree w/ Tim & Ray , if full gas and trimmed out you're really @ 4500 then you have the right size prop. I put a new style 4 blade prop on mine (I've got a 3.0 too) and put 250lbs of sandbags in the nose and she comes up better now. I think the 191 might come up on plane a bit harder than the 22' if it's got a lot of gear in it .No matter what you do to it though an Islander is not a ski boat and 28-30mph is probably fast enough for a light weight aluminum boat in a chop anyway(at least for me).

I talked w/ Elliot this afternoon and I couldn't figure out why he was asking me about my 2cd pair of waders.

I've heard 'IT' called a lot of things but "watching walleye" is a new one to me.

I've had some good results w/ these kokanee spoons.http://www.rockymountaintackle.com/prod_lures.php I put a little larger hook on them and run em' as sliders, sometimes as the main spoons too or on short cores.

Elliot got a huge charge out of all the support you guys put out, Thank you so much! He has been moved out of the ICU and is considered stable. He is very ,very anxious to get out of the hospital but had to settle for a cruise thru the corridors in a wheel chair. Amazing how I can barely wait to see him walking off with my tools and making a mess in the shop again...

I like to run a long stretch of 20lb FC (50-100') after my core and then swivel to another 10'Fc to small black snap. On 2 color cores I'll grade the 2cd stretch of leader down to 12lb for FLX bows and spring browns. I don't change or remove any line on my core reels (I leave them as 2,4,5,6,7,8,10 colors) but I only have 4 rods for core and just switch the reels. If you use Ugli stiks, the top guide is big enough to reel the swivel and snap thru.

I want to thank everybody for their prayers for my son Elliot. Because of the nature of our dairy and w/ 2 other boys to look after I have not been able to be with him very much and it makes me feel better knowing other people are pulling for him too. After a very tough day yesterday Elliot is resting a bit easier in the ICU up in Syracuse. He is just the toughest son of a gun I've ever met and it's a constant reminder to me that shear determination and guts can overcome an awful lot of what life throws at you (that attitude can be a little hard on other people from time to time, but that's another story I saw him yesterday afternoon after a very scary time for him and his mom and although he had just been revived after near respiratory failure he had all ready figured out how to get on the internet in the hospital on his laptop. The nurse who stayed in his room watching his monitors told me that up till then no one had figured out how to do this. Three cheers for you Elliot if you are checking this post .

My son Elliot is having a real struggle with pnuemonia. He was transferred by a special team this afternoon from Chenango Memorial to the Syracuse Pediatric Hospital. He's a tough fighter in every thing he does but he could use some help on this one.

My kids have come to call it 'the crazy Ivan' ( good for breaking up the monotony, though it can lead to expectations that are often unfulfilled )

Excellent practical advice! Watching temp and speed is good, but putting fish in the box is better On Sunday 9/19 I took lakers & a few 3lb salmon from 55' to 110' down (That's quite a temp spread!) The only time I go real slow is when I'm marking lots of fish in and around bait and getting no strikes, of course I'll also speed up and try that too. Big Dave's comment that the lakers will speed up to chase faster lures is true and running faster than 2.0 @ the ball (depthraider) will attract a lot more bows & salmon into your spread. Again though, there are times when you need to go slow, especially early and late in the year when the water is cold. -Andy

After an unfortunate incident yesterday I need to get a new probe for my 840 fishhawk. I'm thinking that I can replace my old probe w/ an X4 probe? I know this has been covered, but I couldn't find a clear cut post w/ a yes or no answer.Thanks -Andy

Ditto what Skippers Trophy reported. Screen was full of fish all day long, but I was unable to get any kind of consistent program going.I Took like one laker on everything from 300'copper to the deep rigger @ 110 down and everything in between, + a couple small 2-3lb salmon on 10 colors. All spoons for me today. I managed a few jigging early but I thought the fishing overall seemed very slow and frustrating. Time to chase land bound and winged critters and leave these fish to reproduce! -Andy
