June 11th Hughes Report
IA bowhunter replied to woody 184's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Dale, BTW I changed the name of the boat a few years ago. I started to get dirty looks rolling through Geneva with Mud chicken on the back of the boat from the State sponsored program recipients. It seemed they were only out to give me dirty looks in the late afternoon, never in the early morning...weird! -
Morty, Did you take a pic of my legs last year? Looks excacty like I remember!

Raaven, I will buy all the above and give you a consumer reports on the product next week. I know the skin so soft with 30spf didnt work last year. Flyswatters did work after they already bit you. Deep woods off invited them into your boat. I had something one of the soldiers gave me on Ft Drum with 100 or close to it deet and it didnt stop em. I was really looking forward to hearing that a thermocell worked, but no dice .Wool socks or pants in 85-90 degree temps really isnt an option.Someone mentioned the fresh water washdown hose, that is what we have done in the past, especially when its warm is just to keep on spraying but when the hand goes off the trigger they seem to remember where you are. Nick, I never remember the ankle biting little flys that bad on Seneca, maybe we always had a wind. Next weeks forecast is little to no wind, hopefully they like the other guys a little bit better, I might load up on garlic before I get up there.

June 11th Hughes Report
IA bowhunter replied to woody 184's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Dale, We launched out of there about a month ago. Funny story, we went to Sodus and when we went to pull into the state launch they were having a Rock Bass tourney in the bay and 30 $30,000 rigs lined up,up to the road to launch. I couldnt believe all these nice rigs for rock bass but to each their own. We packed up and went to Hughs. Should've went to Hughs in the first place. They raised their price but worth the non-hassle. I would love to dock up there for the year but early usually I like fishing outta Olcott or the Oak, -

Dale, Nice fishing going on right now again! Glad you got on em! Boat is still running like a top. We need to get together this summer, I like going out of Hughs, not alot of traffic and a decent launch. Were fishing at the Oak all next week and I am pumped, especially after hearing all these great reports and a few great reports from the guys at the proam! Paul -

Sodus
IA bowhunter replied to Pennfish's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Pennfish We went 7-10 in the area last weekend kings/lakers with a few nice teenage kings. 100-125 fow 40-85 down. Started with a spoon bite on the riggers and then mixed later with spinnies/flies on wire. The kings liked it a tad fast, so we were right Around 3-3.2. Every time we slowed down it would be nothing but lakers. We actually launched out of Hugh's and worked east. Good luck [ Post made via iPhone ] -

IA bowhunter replied to bp4life71's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
if you run out of reading material on this sight, which is doubtful, http://www.attheoak.com/tips.html has some very good info especially for those new to fishing Lake O. Ray put me on to this sight a few years back and its excellent as well. Paul -

6 rod set up - how to run?
IA bowhunter replied to slapshot's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Slapshot, For Salmon/steelhead This has been our exact spread for most of the time with three in the boat(8'6 beam) is to run 2 riggers cheated with two wires on each side similiar to what Hawkeye does except we have all wire. The aft rods for each side are set on a 1.5 and are the deeper dipsy closer to the boat while the forward rods for each side are set on #3 and using 10'6 rods. We always let out our spreads slooow as we have learned from mistakes(not fun getting tangled with wire/flashers). I have heard alot of guys use magnums for their inside dipsys but this has worked so I never changed up. We now have the 3 rod rule in affect so we are learning how to really have a cluster++++. We have included planers in our aresenal with no real issues but 8 or 9 rods is more tense for me, I will admit. next learning curve is going to be copper! Paul
