  1. Tangledline, That was my companies helicopter, I work for Sikorsky. They were doing some sonar dipping and anytime we test sonar we need a boat on standby for any issues and for boat traffic. I am 99% sure they launched out of Severne but I will make sure and let you know tomorrow. You will see alot of Navalhawks on Seneca this year as we have several aircraft to test throughout this year
  2. Eal bay on the ST Lawrence has 4-5" and there hammering the pike, will be up Sat morning.
  3. Took a friend and his 84 year old dad went 12-16 with a mixed bag of kings and steelies. Highlight of the day is when the dad pulled in a 17lb king. Other than that king had a few nice steelies and the rest in the 3-6 lb range with a few skippys. started off in 80 and caught a decent brown and it was nice steady action out to 250 fow. Had plans to go deep as recent posts had looked like thats where the action was but didnt have to. real rough in the morning but smoothed out and off the water by 1pm. hot action was 42nd spoon 55 down on dr, 42nd spinny/atomic combo, habenero spinny atomic combo 130-180 back off the dipseys. As we were headed out snapped the pulley off the downrigger and tried to strap tie for some engineering but water was to rough so 1 downrigger all day, wish we would have had the other as that was a hot ticket.
  4. I will also be up this weekend, prabably not until Sat afternoon and fishing through Sunday. Jolly are you going to be out all day Saturday. Where is a decent place to stay that is fairly close, thought about the campground but G.F. would like a bed. any other reports from hughes area as it sounds like we should head a little north
  5. Fishstix you fish out of Hughes quite a bit, I see your out of Candor-right down the road. I am thinking about getting a camper and parking it there. I like the quietness of the marina/area
  6. Woody went 9-14 or right around there with a mix of kings and steelies, one less steelie and 1 more king, . except for a few on friday morning seems the wire was 2 or 3-1, i'll look you up next time I get up that way, I met Chris and his father up there, nice guys!
  7. Thanks for smoke checking me guys, either way happy with the fish, Legacy, so that is the easiest way to tell them apart is by the mouth- kings have black mouths and steelheads have white mouths, thanks for the info, All in All had a blast, just wont brag about something I dont have again,
  8. Zebedee, my son was stoked when he saw it in the water and a little nervous at first when it was in the boat but kept wanting to look at, you get a little spoiled when you fish on lake O, and then have to settle for Seneca lake, Lake trout, no comparison! I got stopped by the DEC a month ago at Oak Orchard and they wanted to take some fish samples, I think they were interns, I told them we caught 3 kings and to my surprise I had 1 king and two steelies, they told me a few ways to tell them apart, I cant remember everything they said but do remember the distinct dark green with black spots on the back. From the pic you really cant see the green and black spots to well, I dont know if its because of the sun or how Im holding but it had alot of green on the back, the taxidermist also took one look at it and said that is a very nice steelhead. It wouldnt matter to me what I caught as its the biggest freshwater fish I have ever taken, just be kinda a shame if i put something on the wall that really isnt what i thought it was.
  9. Went to Hughes for the first time friday with my 4 year old son, fished for a few hours in morning and evening caught a few shakers 150-185 fow kevorkian and steely dan did most of action moved out to 300 fow and got into steelies on divers with spinnies and atomiks flies dont know the names. Saturday morning was a different story- 150-185 fow 2.5-2.9 on GPS marked alot of fish hooked up with 12lber turned around to go back through and gone, decided I would do a nw troll and wire goes, spent 30 minutes shuffling rods around and trying to steer boat and trying not to have my sons snoopy rod that he decided to put in the water wrap around the line(nightmare) and landed a 23.5 lb steelhead. The big question no i am not in the derby, unfortunetly  Last week out of oak orchard I caught a 22 lb steelhead and no I was not in the derby  I didnt show pics last week because attheoak there was a young boy that caught a 22lb 44'' steelhead and wasnt confident in the scale I was using and my fish was only 34 '', so i used 2 scales today and 23 & 23.5lbs 37''decided to use the 23.5lbs I didnt know steelies didnt get as big as kings as this is my first year targeting salmon and steelies and thought about mounting the 22lber but figured I would get something bigger, Woody told me I was nuts that i put the knife to it, that that size fish isnt everyday so when I got this in the boat I already knew where it was going. I know everybody is telling me I am nuts for not getting in the derby, I just dont get up to lake o enough as i would like but as you see im suffering for not getting in now for the second week , I will be in every derby from here on out!!! Chris Jolly is was nice meeting you and your father and talking with you, and Hughes is a nice quiet area, not alot of traffic, plus closer to home.
  10. Thanks for the report Ray, plan on heading up there thursday fishing PM and the AM. Staying at Captians Cove. Head east or west out of the oak? Anybody else up there thurs, Maniac where are you staying?
  11. G.B what did you use for wax, I just bought a boat and its oxidized about like yours, just curious if you used rubbing compound first as I dont wanna have to do all that work. Anybody else want to chime in on a good boat wax that will bring some color back.
  12. Thanks Dale, I think we both got a great deal
  13. like I said the one in Watertown is much more equipped, actually I was in oak Orchard last weekend and Captains Cove has more than any Gander Mountain at better prices plus the owner was very helpful, I am not no pusher for any business they just had alot at reasonable prices.
  14. I will 2nd the gander mtn in n. syracuse, does not have very much compared to the one in watertown
  15. Does anyone use the flea flicker once the fleas get bad, just got some-want everybodys input
  16. captains Cove has the steelie dan as of saturday
  17. Ray, I heeded your advice and was out there as well, first time out for kings unguided and brought the G.F. went 1-2 losing the first one at the boat on steelie dan, caught 17lber on kevorkian 160fow 70 down. The G.F. is hooked as she caught the fish and looking to be spending alot of time in that neck of the woods. We came in around 3:30 and saw your van, would have looked you up if had known, no VHF.
  18. Thanks Y.T. That is what i wanted to here, Although gonna use mono for at least one more week as no one in my neck of the woods carries wire. Looks like Cabelas here I come.
  19. Changing my dipsys from mono to wire, do i need a snubber. I have also read about different brands of wire, whats everyone's choice?
  20. Thanks guys, Ray I think I will take your advise and head to Oak Orchard, any pointers on where I should start out?
  21. Coming up from watkins glen area and have read alot, went to wilson one time and did very good 3 weeks ago on the kings although small, biggest was 13lbs, but first time for my boat on sunday. Closest place is Sodus but do not here alot of salmon action as of yet. Do I still go west of Rochester or has anybody been doing damage out of Sodus, either way where is a good place to dock and how far out, depth, any help would be appreciate. No downriggers, will just be using dipsy's .
  22. You have a PM
  23. I was and still am learning the lake. I received alot of advise from Ray on this site. I try to fish Seneca a couple of times a week on the south end mostly on the west side to the salt plant. I have caught a lot of lakers since the spring but as of late it has been slow. we were getting our limit just about all the time but have been catching only one or two now, yesterday went out and caught two in front of Tiki bar. As Ray says "green" I have been catching everything on dipsey's with green spin doctors and mostly a-tom-mik fly's. I have played around a few miles up the lake and on the east side but have cought the majority of fish on south/west end. Looking at spending a little more time on lake ontario
  24. L.L. I have contemplated buying a nice 21-24 ft cuddy rigged for fishing but keep asking myself, WHY with the gas prices the way they are and not looking to ever go down again. If you get a chance I would be interested in seeing your engineering job, could you pm me a pic, I need some reassurance ansd someone telling me not to go bigger!
  25. L.L. I also have a Bluefin 19' Sportsman, what do you have for downriggers and how did you mount them.
