I would stay away from Lowrance. I've got an LCX 27c and it's great when it's working but if you need and help be prepared to wait an hour or better on the phone. Just received my third unit under warranty and it is finally all working. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the detailed info on what your set ups can handle in terms of lengths of copper and the release type and the boards you are using. I have just the old home made boards so I probably can't run what you guys a running in terms of length but will be fun figuring it out. Thanks again for the info. Coup
Chowder,
I'm thinking this won't work because your I/O needs to run for the hydraulic steering pump to work and assist in steering. I could be wrong. Is the Kicker going to have it's own steering cable or be somehow be connected to the I/O?
Thanks for the advise guys. Now how much can you run off the boards and can you let one fly down the chute or will that mess up the down riggers if one fires?
Fishstix,
Sounds good. I called Hank and he is putting it in for me as I with need some modifications so it fits. Can't wait.
Congrats on placing that nice brown. I picked up a bunch of drink mixers for all you guys at the campground from work.
I'll be out Fri am then it's heading to Hanks place for the auto install.

Stix and gang,
Well I just jumped per say and ordered the 14r from Anchor Express. Should be here next week. Can't wait. I may be asking a few questions as I go.
Just got in and it was a bust with gin clear water all along the shore from Hughs to Ginna. Not one release and we ran lines waaaaaaay back. Hopefully we get some color back soon.

Thank you Bretter,
I'm going to give it a shot with a couple newbies in the am from work. This trip should be interesting to say the least. Thanks for the info. I'll let you know how I make out.
Congrats on a nice day and good to hear your is dad doing well and back in the boat.

Finally caught fish for a change. Ran down to the power plant and fished on the east side of the "stay out here zone". First pass three rods go off and mass confusion. The biggest one got off but we got the little ones wouldn't you know it. Just kept working that side and ended up four for six with the largest brown being 10lbs. Orange jointed j-9 rapalas did most of the action with a little on the Chartr./green colors. Water temp was varied 42-48 degrees.

Anyone here have one or know of anyone who does. Looking at the Comnav unit part #10070001. Seems to be very simple unit but a bit pricey at 1800$. What is nice is you use the existing cable. I believe with the Simrad unit I would have to get different cable. I want something basic, reliable, with good customer service.
What do you guys think?
JBoock,
I didn't have any work as far as welding done. I just wanted tinted windows and they came out ok and installed the new ones with no problems. Very tight tolerances though.

I fished it yesterday and it was slow. Caught 15 between the two of us that were keepers. We fished 20+ ft. of water all day. A friend of mine called me this am and reported that he is having better luck in 8-10' of water.
Just made plans to go on the 7th of March to make the trip with a friend. Neither of us have ever caught a walleye so at least we are going to a place that has them to start with. Thanks Sluggo for the info and sharing and returning my PM with additional info.
I have an alpha one out drive and have the same concern as Handyman. Can I replace the boot, gimble bearing, and shift cable myself or do you really need the special tools? Not sure what I'm getting into. Anyone been there?
