Congratulations to all! You can't make this stuff up. My bro-in-law & I went out Sunday evening searching for gobblers for his next days hunt (I got a bird the 1st morning). We found 4 gobblers chasing bugs in a field around 7:30 pm. Being so late in the day we figured they would roost close by where we last saw them. The plan was simple. Come back the next morning & set up on the ridge we knew they roosted on periodically. So, come 1st thing in the morning we're set up & are waiting for them to sound off & fly down. Hmmm, no gobbles while they were on the roost (odd). We gave a few soft yelps to let them know hens were around. Once they flew down we heard a few gobbles. OK, we're in the game. Within 1/2 hour, 45 minutes we had 2 mature gobblers within 45-50 yards, From my angle (15 yards behind & to his left) I had a clean shot & could have reached out on either of them. But my brother in law didn't have a good angle & couldn't make a clean shot. So, I guessed correctly he passed on forcing a bad shot selection & waited hoping they would continue in closer. They started circling around towards our right & I'm just waiting for the big bang. All the sudden I see some movement behind the gobblers. At 1st I think that they're deer. Upon staring for a bit & seeing them get closer I notice they're not deer, Here come 2 coyotes sneaking up, taking the same line as the birds came in on. Here I am. Sitting there helpless. I can't motion to my bro-in-law what's happening. He's in front & concentrating on the birds. He doesn't see the yotes...yet. All I can do now is hope he gets a shot at one of the birds before the yotes bust up the party. Yeah, well. It's good to hope. But it didn't happen. Seconds later the birds spooked & took off running over the hill. He couldn't get a shot at the birds as they ran off (it happened so fast) & he didn't realize what happened till a few seconds later when he saw 1 of the yotes. He was so surprised because how fast it happened he couldn't even get a shot at either of the yotes! Not a successful hunt but a good story to share. Wish I had a video camera for that one.

I was a tick (not chick) magnet for years. I've pulled at least 8 attached & 3 dug in ticks off of me over the last 10 years. Thank the Lord never got anything bad but bite marks. I've been using Gamehides "Elmi-tick" clothing for about 4-5 years (on my 2nd set of clothes) & hardly if ever see ticks on my clothes. And haven't had a tick attached since I've been using the clothing. I wear the clothing even when I'm skinning animals. Better safe than sorry. I do use Permetherin spray on my normal clothes & it also works great. But like Dawsonscreek said you don't want it on your skin. One, it doesn't work on skin & two, it is strong stuff. Good luck to all!

Seems like white oaks put off acorns once every couple of years. But if you search the woods you're sure to find 1 or 2 putting off acorns. I would rather have 1 or 2 white oaks trees putting off acorns instead of all the white oaks. Makes it easier to figure where to hang your archery stands, at least for the 1st 2 weeks of the season. I've seen deer walk past a standing corn field & not give it any notice to get to a white oak tree putting off acorns. Red oaks put off almost every year. I don't see deer give red oak acorns much run (a few exceptions, chestnut oak) . They must be a bit bitter. They'll eat them. But usually save them for later after most other options are gone. Looks like red oaks are set to drop quite a few acorns this year. Around my area we've got apple, crab apple & hickory trees loaded with a bumper crop. Butternuts are spotty. Like someone mentioned earlier walnut trees are loaded to the hilt. Good luck to all!

Here's a couple bucks I have on camera. Trouble is like all bigger bucks I hardly ever see them during the season. That's why they're both mature older bucks. They disappear every hunting season. I have 1 other 23" 10 point on camera but can't get the computer to read the SD card. So I can't attach the picture. If I get it to load I'll attach it later. B Safe!

You're right! I forgot about the "NOAA" factor of THEIR height of the wave x 2= actual wave height! Thanks for the reminder.
-
Wave report for Hurricane Irma I was curious so I went to NOAA's site to check the "offshore" & "open sea" wave report in & around the Hurricane. We can't get out on the Great Lakes when there are 2-4' to 3-5' waves. How would you like to be looking at 27' waves on the offshore & 54' waves in the open sea? That is just mind boggling! Be safe everyone! Live to fish another day!

Nice Fish! They both still look pretty silver! Two fish to make your season with in 15 minutes. -
LOC PURSE
ripnlip replied to piratesholly's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I would think that would be at the discretion of the angler who caught the fish. Or if there was a pre-arrangement made before hand between you & your fishing partners. I've only placed 3 times in the derby & it wasn't for a lot of money. And my fishing buddy & I have always had a 50/50 arrangement no matter who catches the fish. And we're also not on a charter. Maybe the folks who fish on charters can help more with this question than I. Good Luck & hope you run into that "problem". B Safe! -
My prayers go out to you & your family. Wish you & yours the best.

Thanks for the report. I hear you though. No one likes getting skunked. No matter if you're on the water for a couple of hours or all day. Sounds like you had a good trip otherwise. Lake O is certainly different than Erie! Hard to believe they're so different even though they're so close in proximity. Gotta love it though. Give us a real diversified fishery...close to home! I'm not sure. That's why I wanted to ask. Last thing I want to do is get in trouble & lose my fishing privileges. I know the folks on this site who fish Lake O more than I do will no better than me. Been fishing it a long time, but only 1 or 2 trips a year & the regulations change all the time. Better safe than sorry. B safe! -

I thought the rule of 1 per day was for the tributaries? The regulation is a little vague. But like JTowne stated. I don't want to break any laws. That can really ruin a fishing trip. I copied & pasted this from the NY Fishing Digest online book. Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout (including Steelhead), Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon All year 15″, except 21″ for Rainbow Trout or Steelhead 3 in any combination, not to include more than 1 Rainbow Trout (or Steelhead) in the tributaries -

Thanks Rtrucking! I did go thru the handle & basically word for word did what you had said. Got the parts & it works great now! I really appreciate your help. Now I know since you replied with the same information to what I did at least I know I did it correctly. Thanks! Good luck the rest of the year! B Safe!

Just reading thru the thread & see you're getting married. Best of luck to you! Wish you & your lady all the best! -
Thank you Sk8man. I'll look them up in case I need to & get their #. Thanks again.

Thanks Jigstick. I will tear it a part & see what's happening. I just thought I would ask before I tried to tear the rigger down & find out you need a special tool or can't put it back together correctly without factory assistance. Thanks again. B Safe!

cannon rigger issue I have a Cannon rigger that is having, I think a clutch issue. The unit is a manual crank Cannon Uni-troll 10. Upon lowering the rig into the water the spool will grab & stop the ball from lowering. If I crank it counter-clockwise a bit it will start to lower again. But then it will stop again. This will happen till I have the ball to the correct depth. Any ideas? Is there a viable service center other than Cannon I can send the unit to be repaired? Or do you think I can repair it myself? Any help would be welcome & appreciated. Be safe!

We had a "gnat" (just for 1 year, in 1 or 2 counties)that hung around water holes & was biting the deer transmitting a disease called Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease(EHD) that would make them thirsty, seek water & die, either in the streams or ponds. It was terrible. Anytime you were around water you would find a dead deer. The woods smelled like death. But it only lasted 1 year. Being that it only lasted 1 year made it seem odd. But that was the official story the Pa. Game Commission was sticking too. But the deer population took a noticeable hit.
