cross lake 6-26-2012
NitroMusky replied to johnnywalleye's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
I'd actually go up the other way even further than bonta bridge...up by montezuma I recall there being some sort of low head dam or something that seems to attract fish, oxygenates the water and is sort of an impass...heard stories of people fishing up that way in the spring for other species...pike comes to mind as being pulled from there. Have to believe the tigers would follow too. Been wanting to try that spot myself actually. Down my the bville dam it gets to be shallows and rapids before the lock [ Post made via BlackBerry ] -
Launch is on the canal that connects waneta and lamoka on the road that cuts across it. Impossible to miss it unless you know how to drive blind lol. Can launch on either side of the road. Parking is on the south side. No places to stay really close by. Have to go to the surrounding towns, such as down to bath, hammondsport, watkins or up to Penn Yann [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

cross lake 6-26-2012

Lots of bait in that lake for sure. If you're going to try by the river, give it a shot around the onondaga lake outlet [ Post made via BlackBerry ] -
Ha interesting. Just saw an article about a goldfish found in cross lake or the seneca river on Syr.com outdoors blog the other day. I was also worried whether there's potential to become a nuisance [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Not retail in a store. Can try and order from Dale directly online, but since he only makes em in winter and is usually jammed up with orders, they are slow to deliver and I think they sometimes stop accepting new orders. Hogans hut on chatauqua used to carry em a few yrs ago. Might still. The happy hooker is another place there to try. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

WTB Musky Setups
NitroMusky replied to Cali Transplant's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Day late and a dollar short as they say. Solgrande just sold his last week (only one I've ever seen for sale) and not many people use this set up. Mine aren't for sale [ Post made via BlackBerry ] -
Pretty sure you have to tap the head to use the heli coils. That means taking the head off so you can clean/remove the metal shavings so they aren't left in the combustion chamber; but that is your best bet. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

My plan of attack would be to start with the bigger screen and save for the add on map chip later. Once you get the unit, you're bascially stuck with it, and the larger screen ones are better (think its a higher resolution too, if I recall correctly) and obviously easier to view from a longer distance. That said, the unimap they come with is useless. Yes you will be able to mark your spots either way, but having the map is really nice becuase I don't think the unimap even has an outline of the lakes on it. Most of the lakes I fish regularly aren't in HD but having the basic contour and outline is helpful. And when you do fish a lake with the HD mapping...WOW [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

135 optimax. Believe me, I'd rather use a kicker, but it won't work with the design of my boat. At least the optis are gas sippers. Now, if only it was quiet... [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Ok, that's a whole ,nother world then. I would start by checking the plugs after a run to see if they are fouling, if so, you might be running rich (in need of tune) or weak spark. Beyond that, it could be a whole host of things and I wouldn't hazard a guess which one to start with [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

2 stroke I presume? It has more to do with the oil mixed with the fuel in a 2 stroke running at a speed they are not optimized for, not ethanol. Do this: add a startron-based additive like merc's quickleen to EVERY tank. It helps to remove the carbon deposits and prevent them from forming. It will save your rings too You can go a step further if needed and use a 'cleaner' burning oil semi-synth like premium plus or the full synthetics made for DFI motors. Also, do make a point of running the motor above 3k rpm for a few minutes after every day of trolling (Up to 15 minutes if you can) to help burn off any accumulation that might still occur despite best efforts. I've been doing the above on my DFI Optimax (at the reccommendation of Mercury) and have had no problems since. In fact my plugs have lasted a lot longer than the 100 hours (or annually) that merc reccommends for replacement, and the majority of those hours are trolling. I don't even put stabil in it anymore other than for winter. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Since we are on the topic, I will say that having the Dave Wood tourney on Waneta/Lamoka on opening day of bass/muskie EVERY YEAR really grinds me. I too avoid tourneys like the plague, but being the ONLY local lake with pure muskies, there aren't a lot of options for the musky guys and the small launch and parking area, compounded by this tourney makes it a royal mess. To say nothing of being a rather small body of water that becomes a combat zone. Plenty of other bass lakes out there for the opener, why is the need felt to crowd these ones even further on opening day??? Call it what you wish: selfish, disrespectful, inconsiderate...all the above. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

I don't recall what tekotas come with from the factory nor do I have any, but I can say that generally speaking, you will not be dissapointed with carbon fiber. For the 10 or so bucks to do them, once you do one, you will want to do them all. Can dial em right in. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Seems you have the hardware aspects set, so seems likely to be a software issue, maybe settings. Can't help there...I'm an HB guy [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Does it have an internal GPS? If not then you do need an external one. If it has an internal one, where is the unit mounted (in dash, in the cabin etc) or open to the sky? [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

The counter is also designed to compensate for the fact that the spool diameter gets smaller as line is let out. However it is based on a certain diameter line (20 lb. Mono I think is the general convention). So in reality it is likely to be off a little - progressively more - as you let line out unless your line matches the line its designed for.
