  1. Dialing in the counter using your backing only works if the backer is the same diameter as the leader (wire). [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  2. Enough to fill it. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  3. The DAV does these types of events. Might explore whether any are local. Nearest I'm aware of recently was last year down on lk erie / chautauqua. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  4. Or put bead about a rod length from the lure so that when it trips, it stops short of the fish but allows you to play the fish somewhat normally [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  5. Just becuase the regs state something, doesn't mean that is indeed the optimal approach. thinking that the regulations are all based in good, up to date science is far from the truth. Many (most??) of the regs are: -very old and outdated and at a time of less refined angling techniques and technology and potentially even fewer fisherman than today. So catch rates used in the calculations are often no longer valid. -based on the conventional wisdom of the days that they were last updated for strategies on how best to manage fisheries -based on imperfect science (it takes a LOT of $$ to improve the studies and the statistics used to make these decisions, but budgets get CUT continuously), so its difficult to get the data needed to substantiate changes now and in the future -fisheries change (think zebra mussles and gobies etc) see above point -rather difficult to get updated due to opposition from those short sighted individuals who see increased restrictions limiting their opportunity to take home their catch, vs the longer term objective of improving the health of the fishery and actually increasing their odds of catching keepers in the future So no, I would say the regs are far from the end all be all, and by no means anything close to gospel. Personally I believe that there should be an opportunity for people to eat a large fish or get a skin mount if they want (I'm for repros and smaller better tasting eaters, myself) but it needs to be more balanced, like a slot limit with one over XX inches. In regards to the charter capt in the original post, there are plenty of capts who state their rules of the boat upfront and lots of people look for those types of conservation minded captains. But to say one thing and do another, that's hypocrisy. Wonder what other ethical and moral issues lie beneath the surface??? [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  6. Ok talked to Dicks today. apparently the ole bystander effect took hold and no one actually booked the room with them. Fortunately its free and we are all set for this evening: 7 PM Dicks Sporting Goods, Marketplace Mall Henrietta. If someone gets there before me, Donna or Chris are our contact folks at the store. In meeting with Jim Reynolds last eve, some folks have already sussed out some potential options for a permanent location for our meetings, so one agenda item will be to vote on where we set home base for the standing monthly meeting going forward. See you all in a bit... [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  7. Assume so, but I will call them in the AM to confirm... toothy and I are meeting shortly to review the startup materials they provided and put together an agenda for the mtg. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  8. I would be careful of that method on HBs, as there is a coating on the screen and without reading the article or knowing that much about any coating on lowrance 'finders, whether or not it would be safe in this case, but when I hear 'polish' I start to get concerned. 9. I know what you're talking about, though its worked well for me. If I remember, I cleaned it with a cloth and the windex vinegar and then resprayed and let it air dry [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  10. From the humminbird website: What products can be used to clean my display? Humminbird recommends using Windex® Vinegar Multi Surface(in the spray bottle).Do NOT use any wipes products (which can also be available as the brand name Windex Multi-Task). The lens contains a special coating which improves visibility. It is recommend to use the above cleaner because we have tested and proved this cleaner. It does not deteriorate the coatings on the lens. Can't help u with the Garmin tho... [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  11. Haha, witnessed this one myself at the launch today. Beautiful boat and the back of the truck was in the water trying to unload. Thought the truck was going down for sure! Finally pulled it out after a few minutes of tugging and guess what...those same exact tie downs, still doing their job! [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  12. May want to upgrade to 65 or even 80 lb braid, if you're thowing heavy baits. Having a good backlash mid cast and seeing the bait keep going sucks Also, your comment about a potential bite off leads me to ask, are you using a fluoro leader? [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  13. I use bags off the front too for the same reasons mentioned previously but I have found there is an art to how far back you set them as, at least on my boat, they make the steering increadibly touchy...acting like a pivot point that swings the ass end around quickly on turns, or when not paying close enough attention [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  14. They really are incredibly easy to change. As far as the right prop, that's a simple Q with a complex answer. need to know first why are you changing it? Is it just damaged or is there a performance issue? In any event you do need to get the right pitch, which means you need to look at the one on there now. It most likely will have a model number and probably a number followed with a 'P': xxP. Also make a note of your RPMs at WOT, and double check that against the motors recommended WOT range or otherwise within about 300 or so RPMs of redline, plus or minus a hundred or so. If so, then you have the right pitch. Beyond that its about choosing a prop that matches the performance you're looking for. The Merc prop selector on their website will help narrow it down for you. 18. Larry I believe we are planning to stay with Dicks for one more meeting before finding a more permanent home, though I've not heard if we have confirmation on the room. Anyone know? [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

  21. Larry/Zach- just heard from toothie. He got in touch with the director today and has all the details, instructions and materials etc on the way; so we are covered. He and I are going to get together once it arrives and review and put together an agenda so that we're not scrambling at the next meeting. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
