  1. I have the quadrabeam as well and am very pleased, though I don't recall the down beams as being any different in specs as the Quadra... Waht is your issue? I know there were some shallow water issues with the 788 but it was a software issue, not hardware, so make sure you are running the latest software version. You can download it to an SD card and pop it in the unit to update. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  2. Nice. Sounds like the kind of problem I want [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  3. I guess I can understand why they wouldn't grow a discernable amount. They are warm(er) water fish so their metabolism slows dramatically in cold winter water. I also read that a lack of ice (like this winter) will actually allow the water to get colder than it would with ice cover. I've had similar experiences in past pre-close outings on seneca. Shallow fish - some interested, but all lazy. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  4. I offered to take a muskellunch or two in exchange for ronix's number, but I guess this could work instead Nice rod tho...did you even use it more than once? Things gotta be like new! [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  5. Apparently not...an old friend texted out of the blue yesterday asking if I had location reccomendations for some bullhead action [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  6. Enjoyed it last year but a weekend getaway has preempted my attendance. Too bad...would have liked to hear the presentations and caught up with everyone. Enjoy! [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  7. The question about your rpms is a good one...what are you turning while trying to get on plane? At WOT? and what is the recommended WOT range? If you are not turning the recommended rpms at WOT then you definitely need a lower pitch prop. Also how many blades is your prop? A 4 blade will lift the rear better than a 3. Lastly, no one has mentioned the advantages of a vented prop in helping you spin the prop up higher and help you get on plane better even if you are correctly pitched for on-plane WOT. Using those correctly made my would-be sluggish dog of a boat literally jump up on plane. Suggest reading up on mercury prop's PVS system. Getting a prop with these vents is a lot cheaper than trim tabs if you have to buy a new prop anyway. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  8. I doubt you will find much shorter in an actual dipsy rod. They have to be limber (have some give) to handle the shock that the waves and rising and falling boat place on it against the pull of the dipsy, since the dipsy doesn't tend to want to rise and fall with the boat. Much shorter and the stress of the bending will be placed over too small an area of the rod and be subject to breakage or else the rod would have to be so thin that it would have no backbone to counteract the dig of the dipsy, trip the dipsy or fight the fish. 9. I have the older, non-DI version but I am sure you will be very pleased. Good value. I did a ton of reasearch before buying and it has a lot of the features and specs of the very high end expensive units at a much more reasonable cost. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  10. I use offshore brand with the orange release but change to a snap on the rear so it slides down to the leader. Correct in that you can't go super fast, 3-3.5 is about it and that is with smaller, shallow diving baits. It will still take a lot of line to get it out so it will be well back of the boat when its all said and done. Anything bigger and you need a mast system [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  11. I'm down for it.
  12. Good for you Bob, glad you finally pulled the trigger...and you will be too, once it's healed... And just to put in perspective..it may hurt but could be worse...Karen had her elbow done last week too and she said she would gladly take either shoulder again over the elbow Fight the temptation to jump back into things and give it time to heal properly...the spring thaw is still a ways off
  13. Eric, ck your PMs...
  14. I would go heavier on the line. 30 lb mono and 60 lb lead core ( that's the strongest LC line Mason makes). Its for the safety of the fish as well as your success...Unless you're using a really limber dipsy rod the lower lb test has a pretty good chance of breaking off on a fish of any size and would likely be a death sentence for the fish- Esp that 20 lb mono. Also make sure you have the proper release tools and big enough net or cradle. Good luck out there!
  15. Yeah that was toothy's tourney. I knew nothing about it till i ran into him on the lake Sunday..wish I had known beforehand Btw- that day, wife lost one on her 2nd cast, (which made it all of 10 ft from the boat). First time using a baitcaster and she was busy inspecting the reel while the fish grabbed her bait. she didn't get to fight it long, but she said she now understands the musky bug...think she hooked too now That was our only action and came during the only break in the clouds all day.
  16. Okuma convector 55L will hold 10 colors and some backing. Love mine for core.
  17. wow. sounds like an incredible day [ Post made via Windows Smartphone ]
  18. alright - who said "Go to work"???
  19. trolling...long point was the general area
  20. Nice job out there guys! Sounds like a great day on the water.
  21. oh you mean optimax oil? absolutely! trolling with an opti ya really have to, to prevent fouling....that and religous about the merc quickleen in every tank. the cost of plugs on that motor are rediculous, not to mention the damage that can come from carbon that could build on the pistons and rings....no use grenading a motor over what amounts to a few cents more per gallon of gas for the good stuff...that motor sips gas, and as a result sips oil too. love it.
  22. BTW- Matt (FishnSki) won it with his 45. he got a couple others that day as well...think he said he was trollling.
  23. Zach- I'm also sorry to hear of Lexie's and your loss. sounds like it might have been for the best that you headed back, given the situation. Fortunately the fuel pump isnt a major deal. Under 'normal' circumstances you could've given one of us a ring and hopped in...thats why you need a PHONE ...I was running solo and would have been glad to have you aboard. next time... I will let you know when I head out next and hopefully you can join. going to be making a bunch of Friday trips (have to use up my vacation time) in addition to getting out about every other weekend.
  24. sorry larry I'm not...had to stop at mighty taco. see you in the AM for registration [ Post made via Windows Smartphone ]
  25. Whoa Ray! since you put it that way I guess I know what i need to do...FISH! Chautauqua or bust, baby!...but it better not be the latter
