My wive bought me the chatterbait 'kit' for christmas a couple years back. I thought they were basically a gimmick, and never really gave them a decent try... then a few weeks ago when nothing was working I thew one on...nailed a 28 incher to end the day... Threw them again last time out and had a bunch of action on them. Matter of fact, I put in an R&H order this morning in prep for the tourney and picked up two muskie sized chatterbaits, so yeah I'm pretty intrigued too. for pike at least, it seems the heavier headed ones are best. not sure what weight that is exactly, but the heavier of the two sizes I have falls faster on the rip/pause giving it a more erratic action. only thing i don't like about them is you have to give them a pretty fast pull to get them to chatter, so they make a good search bait but not so good when they want a very slow presentation.

think beach boys: anything with good vibrations...in line or paper clip style spinners and chatterbaits have all been working well lately [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

Chautauqua Musky Cash Tournament October 2nd
NitroMusky replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Thanks Zach, Its gonna be chautauqua, all chautauqua! I've got the place next door to to Sol and Gus rented for 3 nights. I should say that I have been fishing, just not pures... hit conesus and cross a few times. Just not a long enough block of time to make the jaunt to waneta worth it, given the need for family time and chores on the weekend making up lost time for all the travel and long hours on the job. no tigers yet this season, but the pike have been pretty good to me the past few weeks. -

well, I'm in +1. just paid my fee cant wait to get out...4 days of muskie muskie muskie next week. heading out thur AM. staying through sunday. it will be good to get out there again, hard to believe I haven't been fishing muslie more than 3x this year, and only once since june works been crazy: little fishing, little posting...little sleep Zach, you gonna have a couple more of those baits of yours ready before I head down there??? -
still active...lots of fishing pressure and bright skies there today but we managed two pike - largest was about 30 inches. they didnt want hard baits but spinnerbaits and chatterbaits both produced for us [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

looking for catch my first musky
NitroMusky replied to Deaf Fisherman's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
nothing offensive about your language...don't let anyone have you believe otherwise. canadice and hemlock are restricted hp because they are the two lakes the city draws their drinking water from...the rest around here have no restrictions so you're fine with your rig on conesus. good luck on your quest! waneta (or niagara river) is the closest for pure strain (none in Canandaigua). but if you want a tiger (muskie/pike cross) then conesus is an option. good luck...they're elusive and addictive! [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -
gave it a go last night, but it was a short one...got on the water damn near dark. tried casting as long as i could but not having any time to scope out the weed pockets meant every cast was fouled in seconds. gave trolling around the edges a try too. that fouled up just as quick too. the grass down there is horrible...I don't remember it being this bad ever. nothing in open water either...not even bait. just a few that must have been SM deep off swarthout. oh well, good to be on the water but zach you may want to think hard about making it chaut this week [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

Favorite crankbait and bucktail colors
NitroMusky replied to zach's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
firetiger i like black perch as you do but I'm very partial to chartruse, probably because I do well for all esox with it. for cranks I also like the more natural colors with the plain muted white sides/belly and green on top. also what ever color that greenish gold deep invader is called shhh [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -
wow...shallow shallow...ok.thanks [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
-
thanks zach, yeah i was going to concentrate pretty tight to the weed edges... but are thinking even shallower, like closer to the inside edges? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
