Chautauqua Musky Tournament
NitroMusky replied to THE TRADESMEN's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
ya know Solgrande, if I wasn't so busy packin' to spend a week among the skee's I'd make some witty comment about how mines not just a boat or yet another yahoo standing in front of his net holding one of his many decent (ok pretty good) sized fish! yeah..just be glad I'm too busy to say such things HAHA [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -

Joe Larry is running the Tx (with the HH as 'home base') so if you want to sign up go to Larry's site (Mostly Muskies) and all the details and signup info is pinned at the top in his fishing reports forum. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -
waneta musky 7/26/09
NitroMusky replied to troutmaster45's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
hoppy I do believe that is a pure in your pic. many of the southern tier and PA rivers do have a population of naturally reproducing pures and from what i've read the chemung is no exception. for whatever reason they do seem to fare better in sustaining themselves in the rivers in these parts (vs lakes). don't feel too bad about the deep hooked fish...its fishing...if we all cared THAT much we wouldn't be fishing for em at all. all anyone can ask is that we all give em the best shot a survival, but (stuff) happens...I felt the same way when we clubbed a marlin this spring in Cabo but the line got its gills too and was literally pouring out. I felt quite bad about that too. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -

Chautauqua Musky Tournament
NitroMusky replied to THE TRADESMEN's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Hey Chad, you asked for it and I think you got it: Very Good showing for the LOU boys! 28 muskies caught & released by 38 fishermen...... only 9 of the 28 muskies were 40+. most of the rest were mid-30 inch... 2 of the top 4/5 fish were from the 2 LOU boats!!! Larry Jones confirmed for me that Zach (another Rochester guy) got his 44 in the nick of time, so that makes the Gus/Solley 43 3rd, and mine + another 42 inch Tied 4th. I'm just happy to have caught a fish let alone something of some substance. ran around a couple hours friday tring to mark bait but never found the big bait clouds. It was a tough day draggin' lures around on Saturday. Sustained 15 mph winds out of the SOUTH- hell, Gus looks like he's ready for winter, and rightfully so! Areas of that lake were really rockin and rollin, which made it all the more difficult clearing weeds and steering at the same time. Tried Bemus early to stay out of the wind, marked a nice one adjacent to shore while trolling and tried casting back to it for a while but no dice. I finally gave in and worked my way back to where most of the guys were...sure looked like no mans land on the graph but glad I did! It sure was a real adventure out there solo; I was glad Sol and Gus had my back when I needed the witness and pics...Both absolutely super guys and all around class acts!!! Next round is on me, you too (Sorry, no rum and coke emoticon. Chad- ya gotta get one made especially for them ) -

Walleye & Muskies on Chautauqua Report
NitroMusky replied to BlueEye's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
downriggers for muskie is gaining acceptance and it works. I know of 2 boats on waneta who are very successful and a recent issue of Musky Hunter had an article on it. I beileve most are shortlining behind the ball like a foot or so. I believe the ball (or its water disturbance) attracts the fish and bouncing bottom with the ball when they're on bottom in shallower water fires em up... there is some cool underwater video on you tube showing skees molesting the baits- lots more action underwater than just the strikes we know of, follows/bumps/nudges swimming alongside. cool stuff! hey Sol- you afraid one of us is gonna catch 'your' 50??? HaHa be afraid..be very afraid... hope to see you and gus there [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -
they stock cross lake with eyes and tiger muskie. from what I've read, both will move out into the river/state ditch for the spring/fall for the warmer water (state ditch in particular for the eyes). The eyes (and would guess some tigers) move back into the deeper part of the lake during summer- certainly not all though as I saw a guy pulling in an eye from the state ditch last year at mid day in the heat of summer. gotta believe that there are still a bunch in the flowing water this year given the low temps thus far but I haven't been there yet to attest to that. thats a nice fish, but what are you doing with it on land?
-
Sadly Bob, it looks to be true...reelingforrelief.org. as of now, 1 skee about 36" or so has been taken. since theres no weigh in on waneta its pretty clearly a harvest tourney, even for muskies. ...that would explain why the launch was so packed. drove by it on our way home from Glenora today (wedding at the hotel there last night) and yes it sure was like sardines backed in there along the road. sorry to hear about the truck. Thought today would be a good day to be on the water ahead of the front, but 1 fish in the Tx doesn't sound that great. guess thats a good thing for the fish though!

a livewell?? not sure if indy is one them but tourney guys have to bring em in alive, weigh em...and then let them go. looks like one of those type pics. actually not uncommon to see a limit of bass at the docks that live to fight another day. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

iceman, last I checked this was the OPEN lake forum, meaning its OPEN to all species and topics...not to mention, last I checked there were still LM bass in the big lake... LOL... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

Propellers.......aluminum or stainless?
NitroMusky replied to Gill-T's topic in Open Lake Discussion
how fast is your boat/how many hp? if you're turning somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 hp (cant remember exactly where the line is) then you shouldn't be running aluminum. at a certain point the aluminum is not strong enough to hold up to the power of the motor and you risk thowing a blade into the cavitation plate or worse, which is a lot more than the cost of a SS prop. and yes the're are plenty of shops that repair SS props, both local and out of state (national-mail order). oh I should have mentioned I have a 135hp and I wouldn't even THINK of putting an aluminum prop on mine. agree with Bob totally on the flouro aspect...that's exactly what I use..I make my own. leave on a inch of the tag end to catch the floaters to keep from fouling the lure. careful friday...it'll likely to be a zoo of pleasure boaters during the day before and day of the actual holiday. gonna try to be out there late thursday through late evening and catch some casting before dark and then troll the middle...i'd go friday if not for the aforementoned holiday. good luck [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

great job Lee! you gt the skunk off and then some! bet you'll never forget to check the leader/line again, huh? waneta a few more weeks for me than its off to chaut at the end of July for the happy hooker seminar and tourney (might need a partner if anyones interested) and the whole following 1st week of aug around the full moon. rented a house on the lake, so the boat will be in the water ready for all the prime times action. can't wait! hope my luck is as good as yours... sounds like a successful opening weekend! how about the play by play of the week, Lee? throw in a couple pics for good measure too... Bob how was the bite this weekend? [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -
PM sent...heard that lamoka has some too. they don't stock it but sounds like they make there way over there. I haven't tried it, but if waneta is slow you could make your way there (the new bridge allows for passage from one to the other by water now) and try casting the weed edges near some of the deeper holes if the weeds are too choked to fish directly through them. good luck

Hey Bob, great getting out with you last night...we'll get 'em next time. you are correct, C&R in the offseason, except for Jeff county where its closed for the spawn. the county lines extend out into the lake and river. I know this because after some debate about conflicting sections of the DEC website (lake O/St Law regs, vs special county regulations) I called the Jeff cnty DEC and got the straight poop (I use the fecal referece because the rationale given for a closed season in Jeff is bull****). supposedly they are going to rectify that discrepancy tho

Any advice for Ontario Smallies?....Hedges?
NitroMusky replied to bosco's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
admittedly this is second hand info, and similar to what has been said before; but from what I've been told, the main difference will be that the smallies are holding deeper due to the clearer water the zebras have created. dont be afraid to go as deep as even 30 ft. -
