i run 40lb p line with a snubber for all my dipsys it works well for me. the reason snubbers are good is there is no stretch in the wire like the mono so when the fish hits the snubber absorbes the shock of the fish hitting try tightening ur realease on the dipsy i hardly ever loose a fish on a dipsy unless he straightens the hook or just simply brakes the leader on the fly i run my leaders about 6ft long check out the sodus point 9-6 report and there is proof that i put them in the boat all three of those fish where on a dipsy. we all have r own opinion so find what works 4 u and stick to it.
went out to 250fow where i had some nice fish on the day before nothing there. went into 130fow did 5 nice salmon a 27lb a 24lb a 21lb a 12lb and a 11lb coho bigger fish came on a green hammer fly and a hammer time spinny. other 2 came on a white pro troll with a glow hammer fly 98 feet down on the rigger.
best way i found well letting a dipsy out is once the dipsy goes under the water let it out by drag only loosen the drag and let it work out slow not only will this keep the wire tight but it works as a fish finder to well the dipsy is working its way out u will get a strike then you know where to set the dipsy
i never lost a fish on a slider give the fish a little time and he will release the rod by himself if he aint hooked when it releases then he aint going to be.
punching a hole in a fin isnt any differant than fin clipping or cutting a fin off these are all methods of tagging. do u realize the danger u put the fish in when u hook it then release it all the same stuff think about it if infection can be caused by this why do they fin clip or cut fins off. as for handleing the fish u dont even have to touch them only with the hole punch. can punch a hole and release with out touching it. how about fishing the salmon river foul hooking a steelie during the salmon run then putting it back in the river there is another one we can go on and on. anyway i will find out and let u know how i make out. thank u all for your opinions
anyone catches a fish with a hole in the right rear fin let us know. me and some buddys are hole punching the small fish we are releasing. we want to see where these fish go so if u catch one it was caught and released in sodus point. we r just wondering if these pen project fish r really returning seems how sodus point doesnt mark the fish they release . this will be very interesting to see where they go.
