Cork handle planer board rod?
holy mackerel replied to lakertaker97's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Bass Pro Browning six rivers are nice. -
I agree with MCF, look for a high thrust 9.9 4 stroke (yamaha is my choice) You will have an easy time hooking up the steering with a front mounted quick disconnecting rod. I have this set up on a 22'Lund cuddy. 200 Johnson, 9.9 yamaha. Plenty of zip. Less than 1/3 gallon per hour trolling.

You can run them as you would any other lure. Riggers divers, cores. I run the 10 to 15' above the marks on th ff because the dive some. Very deadly lure with explosive hits. J plugs were tops for salmon before meat and flasher flys came along.

Where can I get a name pianted on my boat?
holy mackerel replied to TyeeTanic's topic in This Old Boat
Any sign shop will custom make vinyl lettering. -
It depends on the experience of your crew. I slow down, move rods around , and usually circle bigger fish. This method will keep you in the productive area and get the fish in quicker. I have drifted a mile away from a great spot before learning this. The other side of the boat will still be running at a reasonable speed and will result in an occasional double. The fish and water conditions will tell you which way to circle.

Just wait till they add 50% more hooks in the water. uggg!

RUFF RIDER Sodus 6/27
holy mackerel replied to TOP SECRET's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
You will get alot of practice removing your steering wheel. I know of three of these units that have problems already. -
Contact Moor, he sells the Klincher shown above as a kit.

Tie a overhand knot, leave a loop large enough to put through the ring on the paddle. Now pass the fly through the loop, pull tight.

sub-troll//canon positive ion question
holy mackerel replied to wnysteel's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I 've had no problems with Subtroll and Cannon riggers. You need to to strip the cable against the spool if you want the short stop to work. I haven't done anything to disable the positive ION. Maybe i've just been lucky. -
They all do the job. I have a subtroll. No cable issues, same probe for 8 years. I prefer the analog speed over the digital I had on the 840. Its like a downrigger, they all do the job.
-
I also fish solo alot, not a disadvantage at all. My preference is two riggers with fixed cheaters. Save the divers for when you have a second person on board. They can be a handfull when by yourself, even with autopilot. We must be fishing the same water, I am between Pultneyville and Sodus point at Hughes Marina, stop in and say hello.

1972 Evinrude 65 hp O/B - Temp Alarm and/or Gauges??
holy mackerel replied to CatFisher's topic in This Old Boat
If you don't know the history of the motor, I would replace the water pump. The kits are inexpensive and fairly easy. Even if you have a good stream, the impeller can be dry-rotted. I had one let go and the loose piece was wedged in the port tube feeding the power head. Caught it in time though. -
Simrad here, flawless.

Northstar electric in Macedon NY rebuilds them if you have a bad one. He may also be able to find you one, he has been in doing marine electrical for as long as I can remember.

I have owned both analog (moor)and digital (fish hawk). I replaced the fishhawk 840 on my old boat with a moor for a couple of reasons. The digital readout would never settle out, always jumping up and down. The second reason was the fact that the probe has has to be in the cone angle of the transducer which limits your shallow use and can be a problem fishing heavy currents. These issues may be better on the x4, I don't know. When I bought my present boat (2005) it came with a Moor (which I would have purchased anyways) and I am using the same cable it came with, no issues. I do not leave my probe all day long, only drop it when needed. It is on a dedicated rigger, and I fish with the other three. I also have a analog surface speed (Osprey, from Moor) beside the subtroll and would not give up either one of them. Not affiliated with any of the companys mentioned, but have been using down probes since inception.

1)green glow paddle/green hypnotist fly (Siggs or my own) 2) white green dots/ white angel fly (my own) 3) white silver bubble paddle/ grape picker (white and purple, my own) 4) yellow killer/ mt. dew 5) chrome mt.dew dots/mt. dew fly (chart. mirage, my own) However, none would be spin doctors, I have way better results with hot spot and coyote or protroll styles. Might be my speed?

A lot of guys put a couple sandbags in the bow, I used to have about ten extra cannonballs in the bow of my old Starcraft. Long battery cables are not a good idea unless you go up in wire size. Just my $.02

Lakebound88 If you Google your dilema there is alot of info. I cut the following from the Lowrance sight/ downloads/manuals globalmap 5200c. You want yellow (transmit),from gps to data in on autopilot. shield to ground (common to auto pilot ground) NMEA Wiring (Data cable) To exchange NMEA 0183, the GlobalMap has one NMEA 0183 version 2.0 communication port. Com port one (Com-1) can be used to receive NMEA format GPS data. The com port can also transmit NMEA format GPS data to another device. The four wires for the com port are combined with the Power Supply cable and NMEA-2000 Power cable to form the power/data cable (shown earlier). Com-1 uses the yellow wire to transmit, the orange wire to receive and the shield wire for signal ground. Your unit does not use the blue wire. Com-1 wiring to receive NMEA position information from some other GPS receiver Com-1 wiring to transmit NMEA position information to another NMEA-compatible device. Ground To Other Device Com-1 To GlobalMap 5200c Yellow (Transmit) NMEA Receive Shield (Ground) Orange (Receive) NMEA Transmit Shield (Ground) Ground Com-1 To GlobalMap 5200c To Other GPS Receiver

I think you will still need the gyro compass for full function. I have a Lowrance GPS hooked to a Simrad AP12 (same as my old Navico) If I remember correctly black is common (com) and I think data out of the Lowrance is yellow (maybe white) It should be in the Lowrance manual. You can probably still get a gyro compass from Simrad, I don't think they changed them when the name changed, If you can't figure it out by spring I can help when the boat comes out of storage.

Check out Hughes Marina. Good location and great people. No security issues, many campers/fisherman are on site all season. 2 miles east of Pultneyville.
