  1. I agree with bluewater, 30# big game with 15# or 20# leader would get you through the season.
  2. Maybe Has been should take Longline fishing so he can catch a fish. And video the entire day to share!! Should be entertaining. We should be able to wipe out all those annoying skippers if this passes............................................oh wait, aren't they next years fish? Same old broken record guys, sorry.
  3. I am selling (2) new, complete power cable assemblies. These are the large flat wire type used until 2005.(?) $15. each or mo. + shipping. I have a paypal account.
  4. I had a similar problem when I bought my 22' Lund Baron Magnum. I fished it for a couple years and decided to have a canvas shop look at modifying the current top. I was told $800, because the frame would have to be totally redone. I went with a complete new top, side curtains and aft curtain for $1500. at Steves custom canvas near Ontario NY. That way I could make all of the other adjustments from the original canvas which I did not like, larger open area, slighty taller, removable windows above winshield, and I also moved where the side curtains mount to accomadate rod storage tubes on the gunnels. I am pleased with the changes except in a driving rain. Check out John Mann in sodus also, may get a better price. Most custom shops can do exactly what you want, so take your time when deciding on layout.
  5. I bought a new Ford focus in '07 when gas was at the peak. I think it was $13k and is now paid for with 60k on it. I kept my'01 F150 to tow with. I am saving $100/ 1000 miles because of the milage difference 34 mpg/ 14mpg. One advantage is I go where and when I want and still only use 8 to 10 gallons of gas per week. The insurance wasn't that bad. You may do better with new with the year end finance rates which are much lower than used vehicles. also consider the warranty. Now that the car is paid off, I plan on doing some maintainence on the truck, tires brakes and such. Looking back, It worked out very well buying the second vehicle for me.
  6. I find it best to start with a full one and a couple friends. Carlo Rossi Pizano is a good start. You may want to get a 5 or 6 gallon carboy for cider to make it worth while.
  7. My vote would be Yamaha 9.9 high thrust. I currently have a 1998 on a 22' Lund, and it has been great. I also fish with a couple of friends with Honda's and they run great, however, they are a lot tougher to get precise throttle control and we all know. speed is everything!! I can adjust my speed within 10ths of a knot, in my buddies 22 islander/ 8hp honda we are fighting to get within 1/2 a knot. Also true with a 20' Grady/ honda 9.8. The grady owner switched from Yamaha to Honda and speed adjustment was his only rub. Just my opinion.

  9. Jetsled I emailed fish 307 and they told me $100 a rigger plus shipping. What gives? I have (4) mag 15's and the power cables were so bad I am surprised I didn't have a fire onboard. I ordered new cable assy's at $50.00 each. I can't believe there was not a recall on this cable problem. It is just a matter of time before the lawsuits start, this is a dangerous problem.
  10. Navico autopilot became Simrad. I bought a boat about five years ago that came with a Navico, it is identical to the Simrad AP12 and worked very well. The control got wet and was replaced with a new Simrad unit. Great system in my opinion. (much better than the Raymarine sportpilot + in my old ride)
  11. I made a punch out of tubing, beveled the outside edge, and use a hammer and 2x4. I think harbor freight sell a set of large hollow punches for gasket making.
  12. I wouldn't limit myself to spin doctors, I have had better success with the rectangle style (protroll, Bechtold, hot spot, Luhr jensen cyote) Just doctor them up with tape. You can find them on closeout and ebay cheap. Green glow (add the dots with tape) White glow with or without dots Chrome with or without dots ( a yellow stripe also has its days) Be creative, that how new combos are developed!!
  13. I have been punching mine out of prism tape for the past few years with reel good success. Mt, dew tape dots on a crushed glow white or green pro trolls that were left over from the meat fishing days.
  14. Call Seager Marine in Canandaguia NY
  15. Barkeepers Friend works on my Johnson Outboard (white paint) I also use Lime Away to clean the stains and water spots on my Lund (painted).
  16. Check the pawl in the bottom of the level wind guide. If it is worn or broken, it will skip and get out of sync.
  17. I've been using 20# Big game for the last three weeks with no problems. I have a set of rods with 20# and a set with 30# in the boat, and prefer the lighter line myself.
  18. I have made them from small copper tubing in the past, don't use them anymore though. I use a knot similar to the one mentioned, except it's a half hitch through the swivel, haywire twist, and finished of with 1/16" shrink tubing. It's a very clean knot and ties fast.
  19. Does anyone carry 5000' spools of wire? Thanks
  20. cptcove, Sorry I wasn't specific enough for you. If you see those red and white daredevils in the store, buy all they've got, they are the best kept secret on the lake!!
  21. The glow with a green lightning bolt used to be a very good king spoon. It ran good at dodger squid speed, but they got bent up easily. The black and silver in the medium size is great in the propwash for spring browns and coho. Still run them on occasion.
  22. I just so happens the state record was caught on my boat in 1997. I was caught by a co-workers 12 year old son, and weighed 24# 15oz.
  23. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Holy Mackerel ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7/23,24,25 Time on Water: friday, saturday, sunday morning Weather/Temp:rain, hot, rough, etc. Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: 74F Location:Wayne county LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits:79 Total Boated:64 Species Breakdown:Mostly browns up to14# , 2 Atlantics, 12# 21#, few lakers, few chick salmon Hot Lure:Black and silver ,green or purple,. maybe 10 fly bites Trolling Speed: 2.4 Down Speed: didn't run it Boat Depth:80 to 120 Lure Depth: on the floor ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Had my brother up for his annual fishing trip, what a blast. The rods were going all day, three days in a row. We had doubles on one rod four times, and had all four rods out of the water several times. Glad we can only run two rods each, it might have worn us out otherwise. The best was the big Atantic we caught as part of a triple at noon on Friday after being blown off at 9am with a wicked SE blow that blew the wiper off the boat on the way in.
  24. I had the same problem on a 9.9 Yamaha, it turned out to be the charging coil (under the flywheel) there are three seperate coils in that assembly. and you have to replace the whole assembly. Good luck, not a bad job, an impact wrench is handy to remove the flywheel nut. p.s. bad or dirty battery connections will also cause this.
