  1. You can try them. Flasher fly is the go to right now with kings staging.
  2. If you put the eye hook straight down the cable could have caught that. I run mine out to the side out of the way.
  3. I'm guessing you didn't read/comprehend my post correctly. I do believe I said "no big deal" when referring to getting pinched together, it does happen from time to time. What I did take offense to the fact that the situation was automatically presumed to be my fault when his buddies chatted up his hook up on the radio and he went along with the assumption not letting his peers know it was an unintended situation that just happened. You'd have thought I was shadowing him all day if you had heard the chatter on the radio and I guess what really pissed me off was the general assumption made by the "few" ( notice I said few not ALL) other Captains chatting it up that the recreational boats would all be converging on this guys boat because he just caught a fish. As bandrus1 stated I shouldn't worry about it and it is now behind me. It just struck a nerve with me how pompous some people can be just because they're "earning a living" taking people fishing. Lastly I will say I'm sure there are boats that follow the charter boats around. I just wanted to clear up the assumption that I am not one of them and hopefully let the specific Captain know it wouldn't have hurt his reputation any to have just called it like it is.
  4. Yesterday had a charter boat get pinched in on me heading same direction. No big deal it happens. Then they go off on a fish and he gets on the radio to tell his buddies. One of them makes a comment of how close we were to each other and instead of stating the FACTS that he came in on me he acts like the situation was all my doing. Get over yourself buddy. Because your living in a "Fantasy" if you think I'm out there following you or anyone else around. Just because not all of us are "Charter boats" doesn't mean we don't know what we're doing.
  5. I'd be devastated if that ever happened to me. Closest I came to losing gear was I either left a gear bag at the ramp or in the back of my buddies boat. Had tons of ground fish gear in it. Either way it was gone the next day. Pretty sure it was left in my buddies boat and stolen out of it that night. Thieves suck that is all there is to it. Takes a while to replenish and after you lose it you start to wonder if you should bother getting restocked up. I always take heat for locking down everything I can if for a quick trip in and out of a store. I trust no one. Hope they catch the scum.
  6. That's a nice seagull. The browns aren't bad either. Looks like a great day except for the lost weight and probe. Spike
  7. Also true. AL and anything not good.
  8. True.
  9. I rig mine a little different. I cut the metal wire rod off of the Chamberlain and run my rigger cable thru the Chamberlain where the rod went thru. I also use a short piece of plastic tube that makes the fit between the Chamberlain and the wire better. It's actually chafe tube I used when tuna fishing. Now to keep the release from just running up the rigger cable I stack scotty stop beads above it. I believe I got this method off this board years ago before Chamberlain beefed up their wire diameter on the release. If you have the new release your probably fine but I had some of the original thinner diameter wire releases and I couldn't see myself trusting htem to hold that much weight. I also like the clean look of the method I use which also involves less connections. Spike
  10. I don't have the TR1 but I do have the GH10 and on the compass ball there is an indicator (triangle) that is supposed to be facing the front of the boat. Good luck.
  11. Also check the compass mounting area with a hand held compass to ensure nothing is affecting the compass. I was the recommended distance from a speaker but I still had big influences on where the CB was mounted. I ended up pulling the speaker and checking with a hand held and it was great. Also make sure you have the CB orientated correctly with the arrow on it facing forward. That messed me up once when I removed it from the holder and then reinserted but didn't pay attn. to where the arrow was. Needless to say the compass reading and the Garmin output didn't match. Spike
  12. I bought this unit for my boat last year. I love the fish finder. The mapping for Ontario was fine but for me some of the lakes I fish local (NH) it left much to be desired. The customer support was exceptional as I complained about the charting on the lake I fish the most and they investigated and found an error in the program. They fixed the error and sent me a chip just of that lake with the fixed chart. I was hoping the 3d charting would be cutting edge technology but I was not that impressed with it. Maybe if I was fishing the ocean it might have more of an impact but for the lakes I fished I didn't see the benefit. Again the FF is unbelievably good. If I had to purchase again I'd look hard at the Si-Tex brand as well. I had Si-Tex FF in the past and they are awesome as well. The Si-Tex unit also uses Navionics or C-Map 2d charts. I miss my Navionics chip. However if your just looking to fish Ontario you'll find the 3D C-map is just fine. It was explained to me that if there is an official Chart of a body of water that is what they use to create their chips. So basically their charts look just like a paper chart for the lake (if one exists). The only complaint I read about Furuno units it they are not as user friendly. If you know your way around a FF and menus it isn't bad but if you don't it could be pretty cumbersome finding where your suppose to go to set certain settings. There are a million and one settings on this unit. In closing I'm happy with my purchase and when mapping eventually migrates to 3d (if it does), and gets better on the smaller lakes, I'll have a unit already. Spike
  13. You can run it no big problem. You just have to keep an eye out when the waves are large as the kicker could come out of the water. That transom is cut out for a kicker so adding an additional bracket to lower it 4-5 inches doesn't seem worth it to me. Spike
  14. 5200 sticks to anything and wont come off.
  15. I bought a garmin earlier this year because in the store it looked great. On the water it was so inaccurate I returned the unit. Might as well have a chart of a totally different lake. OK the bouys were in the right spot but the depth readings were off by as much as 100'. Also humps or holes are not labeled, just contour lines so you never knew if you were aproaching a hump or a hole and how deep or shallow it would get. not that any number would have mattered as they were not even close on the water i was fishing. couldn't return the unit fast enough. Stick with Navionics chips. You can search for my earlier post on the garmin I bought for more info but I highlighted most of the bad stuff here. Spike
  16. I did exactly as Pap explained on a couple stuck screws on my outboards. Although I used a small flat punch as my center punch was not easily found at my time of need. Spike
  17. Makes you wonder why the manufacturers don't do it right from the factory. How much is it really saving the consumer. Spike
  18. I'm thinking this guy got copper and wire mixed up. He didn't even mention disey.... Spike
  19. Spot on!
  20. Congrats on your first Salmon! Spike
  21. One king today one brown pretty dismal picture. Saw some fish stacked just east of the river in 70-100' of water. Managed to get one to go. By the time we reset and got back to them the wind was cranking. Fish still there but after one pass we headed in. Too rough for us at that point. Just the way our week has gone. That's why they call it fishing. Good luck to those that get out. We're headed home tomorrow due to the weather the next two days. Love this lake! Spike
  22. Nothing this afternoon. Pretty disgusted. Lots of hrs no fish…
  23. Marked fish and bait this morning only one small brown on a spoon. Hopefully the afternoon bite is better.
  24. 80-140' is where the charter boats were working.
  25. Skunk. Heard it was slow. Most boats looked to be in laker water. Hope it gets better or it will be a long week lol. Spike
