What kind of boat/pedastals do you have currently? My Ranger came with mainstay gas pedestals and they are nice but I would like to upgrade to the heavy duty mainstays a little more height and more power umph to them. To answer your question yes they do take the jolt out of the ride when you hit a big one?

I guess Erie is up 3 inches.

I won't own a Takota or Saltist LC for this reason alone I know they are great reels but I hold my rod in my left hand and it hits my forearm. I started to migrate my trusy LC's & LCA's over to LCX's last season and they are awesome, big power handles (same ones as Saltist) and as Yankee said same drags as Saltist. The LCX are great.

Soliciting Opinions on Electronics, etc to outfit new boat
K Gonefishin replied to paskuls's topic in Tackle and Techniques
A HDS-7 or HDS-8 and HDS-5 would be the ultimate combo (I like 8 inch screen difference is HUGE) , 2 units are always better than 1, the factory transducer that comes with the new HDS units will suite your needs well they haven't had any issues with them, 50/200 will work great for all the great lakes. Since you have an aluminum boat that rules out any shoot thru or thru hull ducers that would actually make a difference. I would recamend networking the two units together as well, you can view sonar and GPS on both from one transducer and share waypoints. Broadband sounder is amazing when fishing lake O we where able to mark out dipsys going down and mark our sliders, really amazing units. -

K Gonefishin replied to K Gonefishin's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I found some...alot of them, straight from the guy who used to make them. Thx though. -
Anyone have any Jig A Whopper jiggin spoons (rocker Minnow) they would be willing to sell? any color will do, I am looking for the large ones that are no longer made. They still make 1/4 but I want the larger ones. Iwill pay a premium buck for them. Let me know what you got!

Looking for silkscreen/embroidery person

I believe in Minnesota. I know some of the Pro Am teams got their shirts done through them, all the BASS and FLW as well. They are great shirts I like mine. -

Try Gemini Sports Marketing, they offer sublaminated t shirts, jersey, tourney shirts, hoodies etc. They have alot of new custom options and have all the logo's for your use as well in the right file format. I got a tourney shirt from them, it's great. -
The small 4 strokes that Johnson made were actually Suzuki motors I used to have the 9.9 4 stroke, it was a poor excuse for a kicker motor in comparison to the T-8 or mercury's pro kicker. I'm running a 9.9 Pro Kicker now, 3 seasons of ALOT of trolling 2-4 days per week from March till December...not one problem yet, it's awesome. The problem with Evinrude is they are hanging there hat on 2 stroke, the new 15HO kicker is pretty much a 25HP motor just de-tuned a little bit. I know some pro staffers who ran them for the 2010 season, they love them but dang they are huge, the tiller model has a button for troll mode to increase or decrease RPM, elminating the need for a trollmaster, works great on walleye tourney style boats for not so much in your case. I think you would be very happy with the yamaha, one thing to consider is dealer support and price, both will suite you great.

VK salmon flasher or Nils Master jointed flashers?
K Gonefishin replied to Gill-T's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Looks very interesting -
Rude makes a 15HO now, very heavy but I guess it's a great kicker. They have some neat features on them. http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/Engines/E ... ETEC_15_HO

Guys it's real simple, pay a custom painter to make whatever you want or invest in a airbrush gun and do it yourself, it's not as hard as it looks and it's fun. I refurb old tackle all the time, seems like some of my best cranks are ones I painted. Ebay is a good source for old baits too.

A discussion on using big boards and little boards
K Gonefishin replied to jimski2's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I was part of that discussion. I can tell you that Jim Stedke is a pioneer of walleye fishing on Lake Erie that has been fishing Erie for 50+years, he can always get them going expecially on a crank bite which fall is. I also agreed that it's not always the baits, but the pull of the baits in the water, there are days that little boards vs big boards can outshine one versus the other. It was a good topic to discuss, catching Erie eyes isn't always easy. Ohio Game Fishing is a great site with over 25K members alot of knowledgable people there check back often. See what one of the last poster said about Otter boards. -
R & R spoons at WHITNEY POINT SHOW

Yup Dave is doing his Assassins again. I picked up a nice load of them prior to my last trip to lake O. -
Yep, right on my front porch. My home port is cleveland ohio and it sickens me to death that these wind farms will soon be a reality and unfortunatly nobody is stepping up to the plate to do anything about it. Our crooked city has enough problems. Knowing cleveland they won't even be able to get this off the ground just like every other project that has been slated for contruction. Knowing my/our luck this is one that will actually happen

Picked up the new GLAngler yesterday, one of the advertisements had a complete unit for 369.99 Or call Moore and see what they can do for you. One of my friends had his fixed. Cheaper than new expecially if you have a working probe.

Trouble with mature kings
K Gonefishin replied to orangediablo's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
FAR from an expert but I do catch big fish every trip I make up to Olcott and I only fish out of Olcott. If you fish offshore in July and August 26-31 line (where I fish if I go offshore) Fish cold water for matures 42-47 seem to be where they are at. When fishing is real hot for steelies in the 50-55 degree water either move out of your pocket of fish or just fish below them in the colder water. Fish early and fish late seems to be when the big fish bite the best. I run alot of flasher fly's off of wire as well and less is better everytime I run 4 wires I seen to get slower action expecially on kings. I like running 2 divers on a 2 setting (one on each side) and try to keep flasher fly's running on them at all times, don't worry about steelies and coho they will bite them too to keep rods moving expecially big steelies. As far as riggers go first thing in the morning and late in the day I always run a flasher fly's on a short leash 8 back off the ball seems to get hit. Play with running cheaters, somedays they like them some days they don't, fixed or free they both work. When all else fails fish the bait and the marks. And run the hammer fly's, glow, shredded and regular. Spin docs account for most of my mature fish. -
