  1. Spin docs and fly's and J plugs will pull fish, mag spoons will as well, last labor day I had luck on glow mag moonshine spoons as well as the other baits/programs mentioned. You can run 1 rod per rigger with fixed or sliding cheaters, or two rods per rigger if you run stacker releases. I don't have much experience running and catching on the (hope that changes) J's but know guys run them 50,75 or 100 back right on the bottom if your out very early or very late near the peir heads up high in shallow water. Hopefully some guy with alot of experience chime in becuase I'm curious as well, but just like anything else fishing it all depends. If you have dipsey divers run those as well, they work very well. If all goes as as planned I'll be up in Olcott the same weekend as you fishing fri, saturday and sunday.
  2. Heartlands, Shimano Talora's, Shimano TDR's, Okuma Blue Diamond all work fine. Find the right length and be sure it's a Med Heavy action and you'll be good. I just picked up 9' TDR's and really like them 35 a piece.
  3. I garbage picked a glass top from a old coffee table it's almost 4 ft long by 2 ft wide and about 1/2 inch thick, I dump the fish out of my cooler on the grass, set my glass top on top of my cooler and go to town on the fish. Hose the glass off and it's nice and clean, since it's low I just sit on a 5 gallon bucket with a extra throwable from a boat while I clean so I don't get bucket ass. I can put up and take down my makeshift fish cleaning station in less than a minute! After a long day of fishing I don't mind sitting down while I clean fish.
  4. I just posted in Open lake about conny, it's a blood bath out there right now. Very easy limits of very very nice fish. 36 fish limits by 12 or 1:00, easy pickens from Geneva to the PA/OH border. I'll be up there next weekend then after labor day back to Olcott...hopefully.
  5. If you guys want a real blood bath, guys are pulling 30-40 fish by 1:00 almost fish 5-6 pounds or better with many hogs in the mix in Conneaut I'm sure it would be the same just over the OH/PA line, HUGE school of fish out there right now it's been on fire for a couple weeks. If you want GPS numbers let me know. I know many NY guys aren't far from from Conneaut. It's worth the trip.
  6. I have an extra reel if you need some parts, trade you some extra tackle if you got some double or triples if you want. It's sitting around connecting dust.
  7. Your doing something seriously wrong then.If the base plate says 1, 2, 3 and it's not planing out, you either have a broken diver (if that possible) or your using mono and you can't see the swing but doesn't mean it isn't, or your rod holder position isn't letting you see where it's going. Something isn't right? Can't you explain maybe we can help.
  8. Let me guess you blew up Big Jon's??? happened to a couple friends of mine.
  9. Most guys that run 1 diver per side run them on a 2 setting (including me) 200-260 will put you in the 65-85 range. I seem to do best on kelly green, yellow or black divers. The big water edition has diver charts for braid, they will not dive as deep with spin docs due to the drag though. I would run the shore with a spin doc till you bumb bottom, only way to tell for sure. Alot of LOU guys are running 47LCA with full 1000ft spools of wire so our spools match pretty close, yours may not match up so well to alot of what you read on here or other reports.
  10. Never happened to me either been running blacks forever. How are they set up and what kind of ball/weight are you running?
  11. Take some light grit sandpaper to the area where the dipsey trip holds, this will help releases. But yeah use braid or better yet wire.
  12. Yeah I've taken my sharpener to them and they seem strong, just don't seem like the ultimate hook set up. Maybe I'm just always trying to tweak things and make them better. If you say they work maybe I'll leave them. Thanks.
  13. Those hooks kind of suck, I've seen guys setting them up with bead chains with upgraded trebels or even singles, thought about grabbing a few. Thought I would see what you guys were running
  14. http://www.southshoremarine.com/Page.as ... 68-XF.aspx Great price too. $69,900 not a hard top and no mention of trailer but boat looks brand new, they will rig it the way you want as far as electronics packages go and can probably get you a trailer or get it up to wilson as well. 04 Abby 160 hours. 8.1 L Bravo III Jackshaft 160 hours, Ask for Steve Carlson- he has sold a couple of my friends boats, good guy, GREAT dealer. They also have a couple Carolina's in stock as well. (not on list but should be IMO)
  15. What are you guys using for hook configurations?
  16. I use noodles, I prefer the bigger noodles for fly's to weigh in down stick a piece of lead pipe inside the noodle so it can't blow out of the boat! Been there and done that too. For fly's I'm rotating in and out of the program I use the noodles for those ( I have a V slit cut in the noodle for the trebles the single I just jam in the noodle. For the ones I'm not using I use one of the tube style boxes. Here is a pic of one (this one has double willow walleye harness's in it but you get the idea) keeps them nice and seperate. I wrap the leaders around my finger, pull pull the head of the fly through one end so it doesn't get all crinkled then put the leader in the other end (both end caps pop off) Each box holds 34 tubes. Works good for me. Amish Outfitters has some unique storage ideas for stuff as well check his stuff out. You can see the noodle next to my buddy.
  17. Your prop is fine but you most likey spun your hub, I would call a Mercury dealer and ask them if you have a hub to even spin if not you have bigger trouble I say this because i have a 250 Pro XS Opti and they have metal hubs to prevent this but not sure the small Opti's have them or not, hopefully they do. If it's hub easy fix you'll be back in business in no time.
  18. I've taken big fish in screen full of bait and solid hooks but have also taken big matures with tumbleweeds rolling across my screen. Since I'm an out of towner my first day is a set up and troll down it often takes me awhile to find fish but since speeds allow you to cover water fairly quickly I find myself not wasting a whole day fishing unproductive water. I've been at it long enough to know where fish are going to be based on years prior and or recent reports. Sometimes fishing blank screens pays off sometimes it sucks. It's all part of the fishing game I will say this, if your not in marks and bait chances are your not going to smack em good but a lonely mature is a great possibility. Once I find the fish...the following morning I usually stop 2 miles short so by the time I get into the fish rods are in, temp is dialed in baits are running properly and when I hit the "promised land" all hell breaks loose.
  19. Good job on the fish nothing like catching some dandy kings. Tim is a good dude, he has helped me as well. He looks out for everyone out of towners included. LOU is a great site.
  20. And if you fish out of Oak Orchard/Point Breeze these two links will be very well finding out where guys are fishing. expecially the tweets. http://www.attheoak.com/landmark.html http://www.attheoak.com/taylor/lat-depths.html
  21. They are refering to North Latitude via GPS numbers, the middle numbers In this pic of my fishfinder GPS I was north of Olcott on the 28 line almost to the 29 line. Each line is around 1 mile (not exactly tho). GPS numbers have both North and West latitude/longitude. The further north you travel the higher the numbers go. You'll see the numbers in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
  22. If your friend gave you 8 or 11 inch flashers read the links on the lower left of this link http://www.protroll.com/books/?id=1 Do you know what kind of flashers they are, Pro Troll's, Spin Doctors etc? You want to run fly's off of them available at all the baits shops in NY. Run a 22-26 inch leader behind the flasher, attach the spin doctor to a 30, 40, 50 pound 5-6 ft piece of flouro carbon behind the dipsey just like steelhead fishing. Instead of a spoon your running a flasher with a fly trailering behind it. 11 inch run off the riggers 10-15 back from the ball, they have a huge rotation so only run 1 off one rigger or if you run 2 make sure you have enough seperation between them (example run one at 40 the other at 75 or whatever) Got questions let em rip!
  23. I'll look at the 2 older one I have on my boat. I just added a 3rd for my sub troll attached to a rail. However none are for rod holders. I do have 2 ram hod holders but they are rail mounts. if you like infinate adjustability. you gotta check out the Cisco tubes. best rod holder on the planet. I have 3 triples per side and cradles.
  24. I would ax the mono and get wire also run your divers with rings they will dive deeper with less line out and have better outward planing ability. Ray has good advice on the depths.
  25. Agree get heavier duty rod holders. Those ball mounts are useless. I have a couple for electronics and they don't do all that great of a job holding those in place I would never trust them to hold rods pulling anything. Get some cisco's. Bummer on the lost outfit.
